"a lot of them made the Pro Bowl"... go ahead, name me a lot of them please. And after that, show me how many times OUR FO has been able to find these undrafted FA who make the Pro-Bowl? Actually, how many undrafted players has our FO located over the years who have even made an impact on the team, much less the Pro Bowl?

good teams don't go into a season depending on undrafted FAs who made zero impact when they made the team the previous year. that's a recipe for disaster.

23 UDFAs in the Pro bowl last year, including Tramon Williams, Cameron Wake, Miles Austin (a WR), Wes Welker (another WR), James Harrison...

As for UDFAs who've made an impact on the team, I'd say that the Cards got pretty good value from Mike Adams, Lyle Sendlein, and Aaron Francisco have had some impact playing for the Cards in recent seasons.

They're not depending on UDFAs. They're depending on veterans already on the roster, including a second- and third-round pick.

that's all I'm saying... and it should have gotten done LAST season... which is really my bigger gripe as usual. I can't wait to read Rod Graves biography one day: "The Rod Graves Story: A day late and a dollar short."

Exactly. This should've been done last season when cap space didn't matter. Now, we are probably going to lose him.

I gotta believe you made up most these numbers.. First of all how could he miss the next 10 games when he played in 11 games last year?

you're right it was 5 games... it just felt like 10 because he could never get his ass on the field.

And as for the non drafted pro bowlers last year.. Seriously? Name them? James Harrison, Vonta Leach, Antonio Gates, Arian Foster.. Theres more just dont feel like going to look em up..

a) YOU made the claim about a ton of non-drafted Pro-Bowler. Either back up your claim or you can take it back. Telling someone "I said so and if you don't believe me, look it up" is just silly.

b) and again, regardless of that, how many undrafted FA have THE CARDINALS IDENTIFIED during that time period?

I would prefer to let Breaston walk and for an extra mil or two sign Rice I think he is a much better receiver with a much bigger upside and wont cost all that much more than Breaston and we have the cap space to do it no problem...

that's the best you can come up with? i think it proves my point. Aaron Francisco was a decent STer and a horrendous Safety. Sendlein's been average at best IMO and Mike Adams couldn't cover a bed.

They're not depending on UDFAs. They're depending on veterans already on the roster, including a second- and third-round pick.

who's the 2nd round pick? and are you counting Housler?

y'all just have much more confidence in the Cardinals ID'ing talent than I do.

If they won't spend the money on Breaston they sure as hell aren't going to splurge on Rice. JMO

I'd love to have him back, but I don't want us to break the bank to do it. He's a Western PA kid, and holds a place in my heart as a Card, but we can't go crazy on a contract with him. I have a feeling that another team will be willing to spend way more than we will to sign him. With a glut of FA WRs this season, we'd be crazy to give him a huge contract.

We have rarely seen a second year ST player come to camp as focused as Stevie was his 2nd year...and he had just the surrounding cast to push him forward: two great WRs to learn from in Fitz and Q...and a Hall of Fame QB who took the time and interest to develop chemistry with him.

The questions for Stevie moving forward at this point are:

1). Can he hold up physically?

2). Can he come even close to developing the type of chemistry he had with Kurt Warner?

3). Can he learn to pull down the deep balls? He was often oooh soooo clooose---but the deep ones seemed to elude him...and with his speed, that's what he needs to do, is be the deep threat that, for example, the Steelers found in Mike Wallace.

What Breaston has learned to become is sure-handed on the short and intermediate routes---when as a rookie that seemed like it wasn't going to happen. The kid deserves a lot of credit.

With that said---and the Cardinals' extraordinary penchant for finding WR talent---and with plenty of money to spend---can you imagine what kind of a splash the Cardinals could make for their new QB if they signed WR Sidney Rice to go opposite of Larry Fitzgerald?

I like Breaston. I really do. But if we could get a guy like Steve Smith (NYG) across from Fitz, we're a better team as a result, IMO.

QUOTE]

isn't the steve smith (from ny) basically working with an incredibly debilitating leg injury that no one is sure how it will heal? yeah, great replacement.

as cheese said, can't let young talent walk. there's chemistry, fan familiarity, etc. if you can upgrade, upgrade. but just don't gamble that you're going to fill his spot unless it's already filled (and roberts ain't there yet, and doucet is undependable).

Again stevey is a 700 yard 2 TD WR. I like the guy too. But you guys are over valuing him.

The Cards also have a ton of needs they need to fill. That money will dry up fairly quickly if they sign a couple of big name free agents. Again I'm all for re-signing Breaston if the price is right. My concern is that another team will throw more money at him than he is worth. If that happens then I say we go another direction.

I disagree on both points. The Cards only have one need to fill and that's at QB. They have areas they could upgrade but we won't be in dire straits if they don't.

People tend to overlook the fact that most of the Cardinals key players are under contract and included in the $83 million.

They should have plenty of money to sign all the 2nd tier guys they need to fill the back end of the roster and keep Lutui, Sendlein and Breaston.

I say sign Roy Williams as your speed guy when Dallas cuts him.

Yeah, I'm glad he busted as hard as he did for the Cowgirls.

I'd say, if we really want to get a speed guy, and if he's healthy, that guy should be Sidney Rice in a no-brainer move.

Rice is not a speed guy.

I knew about the injury, but this is the first I've heard about his season being in jeopardy. Didn't he have the procedure last December?

He will start the season on the PUP and won't be ready for like 8 weeks according to the update I read yesterday

The Cards need to listen to me:

Santana Moss: perfect compliment to Fitz.

2010 Season
93 catches 1,115 yards 6 TD's

2009:
70 catches 902 yards 3 TD's

2008
79 catches 1,044 yards 6 TD's

i wouldn't mind Santana Moss as a deep threat WR to replace Breaston.
