I'm glad to see that we're allowed to attack the poster and not the posts now. It's a little difficult to type with your words shoved in my mouth, but I'll give it a try.

Russ dropped Matt Hasselback and added Max Hall to his fantasy roster. I'm not in his league, but that basically tells me that Russ's prediction is that Hall will be better than Hasselback this year.

That makes more sense than you think. Unless Schaub gets hurt my backup QB will be active exactly once this year, his bye week. Hasselbeck is injury prone, has been for years, and he's not exactly putting up big numbers yet in Seattle.

I picked up Hall for a simple reason, Schaub's bye week is week 7, Seattle plays Arizona in week 7. Because our run defense has been so bad, I expect Seattle to run more against us than pass. Meanwhile they have the 29th ranked pass defense and we're not running as much as we should, so I expect us to pass more than run against Seattle. So for that one game I figure the ceiling is higher for Hall than it is for Hasselbeck.

It has nothing to do with what I expect of each guy for the season, it's a move designed for one game.

See I don't buy that. I don't think most of the national writers care enough about Arizona to develop those sources.

I know we get better information here on ASFN than the majority of them. Just look how quickly we found out about Dan Williams being too fat.

Heck Urban probably found out about it by reading ASFN. :D

Like Lombardi who everyone here was sure was making it up right up until Matt got cut.

I'll try to find it again, I read it last week online.

I don't get why you post a link if you're going to ignore the parts of the link that don't agree with your version?

K-9 101: create arguments by using baseless facts and contrived statistics while ignoring more cogent information, which would better prove the point. All of this while spewing vitriol at those who dare challenge him and those who agree with him but wish to add to his stance. Then stating that people should apologize to him when he's right, going as far as to say that we need to "catch up" to him. He also uses the mitigation tactic where every player's talents and potential are ignored and replaced with irrelevant negative analysis.

Well I don't know if he will become good or not, but I DO NOT want to play Quarterback Carousel. If Whiz feels that Anderson is not going to cut it, fine..... but don't put this kid in for 2 games...then back to DA for 2 games...then Back to Hall. See what the kid has, let him finish the year, then decide which direction you want to go at the end of the year.

I think I heard the same sort of things when people here were sure that Whis was going to fix Derek Anderson and that DA would play well enough for the Cards to win the division.

That's a different situation. Leinart was a celebrity player enough so that the national media would actually pay attention to what was happening with him.

One of the few the Cards have ever had because *^%&^&*@#$ Joe Namath signed with the AFL.

Do you think that Lombardi was on top of the Max Hall for DA story before anyone else?

Totally agree, I think the DA might be better off the bench comments were designed to "not lose" DA entirely, but it probably doesn't help Hall at all to have his coach saying that before his first start. Everyone says Max is supremely confident so maybe Whiz feels he can handle that.

But I agree, QB roulette would be bad. Max is going to have to play REALLY poorly for me to want DA back as the starter anytime soon.

I agreed with K9 about DA but there were obvious differences. DA had played in the NFL, he'd played quite a bit, he'd been a starter, he'd lost the job given to him at least twice, and had been the lowest rated starter in the NFL 2 years running. His problems had been consistent from college on, no accuracy, it didn't take rocket science to project he'd struggle again.

My guess is the Cards went into camp thinking Matt was the guy, DA was the backup. Hall had impressed in OTA's but they didn't expect him to keep impressing and improving like he apparently did. As camp went on they began to realize Matt wasn't the guy, and Hall was a lot better than they thought. SO they hoped to catch lightning in a bottle with DA(as Cleveland did in 07) until Hall was far enough along. I think Whiz badly overestimated his ability to get a good season out of DA.

To be fair, if Fitz is 100% and Breaston and Doucet are playing DA is not as bad as he has been, he'd still suck, but at least he'd be better. It's not easy throwing to 3 rookie WR's, I can't wait for Doucet and Breaston to get back.

Sure, but to what degree? Snide comments about how one's commentary is bogus while said poster talks as if he's omniscient and others must follow in his flock of sheep.

I'm all for posts that are a little rough around the edges, but when they sound borderline narcissistic, it irritates me and eventually it has to end.

I have him on ignore but unfortunately when he gets quoted, it's still visible. Perhaps this feature can be adjusted.

It doesn't have to end. He can be rough, but easily ignored.

No I think much of the national media had the same sources, they just weren't as definitive as Lombardi was. Remember while we were all asking here are they going to keep 4 QB's or risk losing Hall or Skelton, Lombardi was saying it was very possible Matt got cut and Hall was the backup.

ESPN's guys had very similar info, they were all reporting Matt was in danger of losing the starting job, they just weren't saying he was likely going to get cut.

My point is on THIS story, Hall and Matt, the national media had better info than just about anybody on this board. I think Mitch was the first person who said with any conviction Matt might be cut and Hall was the backup. I don't know if that was his opinion or if he knew something, I got the impression it was his opinion.

I guess I just find it interesting that Arizona highschool sources are so well informed about Hall being "Casual" with the truth, and yet none of them seemed to have any idea Hall was going to be the backup and Matt was going to be cut?

FWIW, I think K9 usually backs up his arguments very, very well (it's actually part of what makes him so maddening). But in this case his insistence that Hall has "a casual relationship with the truth" is baseless and pretty slanderous.

There's a fantastic chance that we'll all be burying Hall by the end of the season, but it's too early to be digging his grave already. We simply haven't seen him play. The odds are against him, but there IS a chance, no matter how small, that he could be successful.

Boy do I ever agree with this. K9 though is not the only one who does this. There are a handful of posters on this board who for some reason feel they need to do this every time they see something they disagree with.

I have a couple of people on ignore for that very reason. Usually the ones who just make a snide comment when they disagree with you and don't bother to actually discuss the topic. K9 just takes a lot more heat than most of the others because many of his opinions aren't popular ones but at least he posts his reasons for disagreeing with you.

I'll talk football with him any day.

Note though that all snide comments made on Sunday night or Monday's after a Cardinal loss are excused. :)

Nice job by Peter King.

You'd think there'd be more write ups serving to give fans a more complete and vivid idea about who our new QB is and what he's about.

His article filled the bill nicely.

So far, from what we've seen of Max: He has demonstrated his ability to move his team thru the air. He's also demonstrated his ability to get sacked 6 times.

What we don't know is: how good is he at learning from his mistakes - i.e. will he get to a point (hopefully sooner than later) where he fixes what needs fixing? Or will he remain stuck in a rut?

*You never know about these things until you see what unfolds in real-time).

We're resting our hopes on a kid who has a 45.1 QB rating playing behind an offensive line that is on pace to give up 60 sacks this season with a backup QB who has a 59.5 QB rating and has thrown 5 INTs in 3.25 games.

God help us.

Thank you Mr. Spicoli. Now please share your Pizza with the rest of the board.

:D

Nothing wrong with a feast on the board's time. Here's hoping the Saints don't feast on Hall this Sunday.

The only way I see DA getting the job back is if Max struggles, but somehow the team is still in the playoff race. Whiz could go back to DA as a last ditch effort to save the season.

The three scenarios as I see it:

Max plays well: He keeps the job.

Max plays poorly and we're out of playoff contention: Max stays at QB to develop and learn.

Max plays poorly but we're still in playoff contention: Whiz switches back to DA for some "veteran leadership" down the stretch. Sort of a roll of the dice move.

I think there's another option that may be just as likely as the rest: Hall either fails or gets hurt and we see Skelton.

I usually don't like throwing out info from sources that are going to remain unnamed, but as a golfer I have played with a lot of players, ex-players, and coaches over the past 10 years.

Recently I was out hitting golf balls with an ex-player and a positional coach for the team. We spoke for about 2 hours regarding the offense, where does he see this team going, as well as anything and everything he would discuss with me.

Regarding our QB situation he said that he did not feel that any QB was even on the same field as Warner, but that with time he felt both Hall and Skelton could lead this team to wins. From a leader's stand point he said Hall was leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else and if DA were to be benched, he would think Hall could lead this team to the playoffs with a slight adjustment in gameplan. Now this was 2 weeks ago and before getting blown out for a second straight week....but he truly believed that Hall had that look to him where he wasn't afraid of anything that could be thrown at him and he just wanted to win more than anyone he had coached, including Warner. He also loved Skelton's physical tools and said if you could combine Hall's mentality and Skelton's tools, this team would be competing for SBs for the next 5-7 years.

Now don't get me wrong, not saying that I or this coach felt like Hall would come in and be the next Warner, or probably even say that he thought Hall could carry Warner's jock. He just saw someone who would play their heart out and believed in himself more than anyone else out there and if put in a position to win, he would be a winner at some point. But I am pumped that Hall is starting (as I am sure this coach is as well), he can't be that much worse than Anderson....and who knows, maybe he pulls a Roethlisberger, not wrecks his bike or assaults a woman, but comes in and just wins games from here out with a minimized playbook and holding onto the football.

Sounds great but Hall will be throwing to Fitz, Stephen Williams and Max Komar instead of Fitz, Boldin, and Breaston from behind an offensive line that has so many leaks they'd need an army of little Dutch Boys to close them.

I hope the kid lives long enough to utilize his intangibles with some real weapons.
