Avila, with the left side of the infield wide open, struck out trying to pull it into the shift. Stubborn! Two outs. Mathis, pinch hitting, with a fly out.

So, what do you think? 15 innings? :)

Oh no. Chafin in.
And yet does well, striking out the side. My radar is off tonight.

Peralta with a 2-out double. Escobar with an intentional walk. Souza walks. Bases loaded for Descalso with 2 outs.

I really dislike that MLB has embraced the shift. Even for marginal hitters. And most of them too stubborn to learn to hit to the opposite field when the opposition gives them potential hits.

Hunter doesn't look like a pitcher at all.

Thats the batters fault then. They should learn to push or pull the ball so they stop using the shift on them.

The shift should be outlawed, or a least curtailed. There should be a chalk line drawn from second base to the edge of the grass in CF. So if a lefty is up, only two players can setup on to the right of second base/the chalk line.

Most other pro sports force players to align in certain ways... Football can only have a certain number of players on the line of scrimmage. The NBA has the 3 second violation. The NHL and even Soccer have off-sides...

'Sorry, Shaggy, but I disagree. It is so universal that I hold management and the leagues responsible. The players do what their coaches tell them to do.

With the bases empty, Avila pulls it right down the RF line for a double. And up comes Yoshi, who lines the first one foul and grounds out to move the winning run to 3B with two out.

Every batter should be able to bat around the shift. I agree, I don't like the shift but these are guys that have been batting thier whole life. They should work on how to defeat the shift.

That's 14 LOB, 10 from the 9th inning on... my God that is horrendous...
I'm telling' ya. It's the damn shift. The Phillies challenged us to go for singles. As we did them.

But you're right, Shaggy. The players are part of the problem, too.

And as I'm typing this, BB just said, "Everybody wants to hit a home run."

Goldy whiffs. Peralta got his first hit in the 9th (the home run) and is a triple shy of the cycle.
