Yup. The Suns will have the worst record and best odds at #1, but they will still end up with the #4 or #5 pick while the Lakers and Celtics, amazingly and mysteriously, end up picking ahead of the Suns.
Suns can’t be below #4 and neither the Lakers or the Celtics have a pick in the lottery this year. So maybe this will actually be our year for something good to happen.

The Celtics will get the Lakers pick if it lands between #2-5. That was part of the Philly trade last year. However the Lakers themselves do not own a lottery pick. I wouldn't mind seeing Boston get that pick either. I'd like to see that pick get used so Suns fans can finally move on from "what if" scenarios that involve the Suns still holding onto that pick instead of Brandan Knight. It's over, it's gone, and we got that for the corpse of Steve Nash anyways so it's not like we gave up anything of real value to obtain that pick in the first place.

If Milwaukee ends up tied, it’s funny but we are rooting for them to win the coin flip. Winning is losing for the Bucks in this instance. They still owe us for 1969.

They will never stop owing us for 1969.

Knowing how far the Suns could fall in the lottery was a big concern for me. It's good to know the Suns cannot drop below #4 in the first round.

Another thing, it's great to know the Suns will own the first pick in the 2nd round. It's almost like having another draft pick late in the first round. This was another gem not talked about much.

You have most of this correct, but it’s Cleveland and not Boston that would get it. That Lakers pick either goes to Cleveland or Philly.

Crap. I was thinking of the Nets pick. Yep Boston gets it between 2 and 5. At least that wouldn’t be in the way of us getting #1.

Yeah I was going to say, Boston traded the Cavs the Nets pick and not the Lakers pick. There are a few storylines that we'll see play out with who owns what pick but thankfully the Suns aren't in position to lose their own pick and now it's guaranteed to be top 4.

The Laker pick can’t be 4-5. It can only be 1-3 if it moves up. Three of the best teams in the east can still end up with a top-3 pick to add to their future; PHI, BOS and CLE (Nets pick).

One of the worst parts of the Suns curse is that no one else knows it's a thing. In its own way, never having the #1 pick is a point of pride, but I'm willing to give that up. I'm almost glad I have the Bucks pick to worry about for the next couple days...

I wonder how how we could climb if we traded our heat pick with the second rounders? Maybe 3 or 4 spots?

IMO, the most value of the 31st pick is for the Suns to grab a player that falls to this slot or trade it to another team for something valuable.

Some team is likely to fall in love with a player at this slot which will give the Suns leverage.

Ugh. Miami lost and Milwaukee won. McDonough had to get cute with the back end protection on that pick.

I'm betting McD would have much preferred to not have the back end protection whatsoever. We just had very little leverage in that trade.

Reports are that he put the back end protection because he wanted to ensure it was a middling draft picks instead of a late round pick. It doesn't make sense for Milwaukee to put back end protection. They would have pressed for lotto protection which they got.

There's back end protection on it next year also. I find it unlikely the Bucks get worse this offseason unless Giannis demands a trade, in which case they'll be lottery bound and we won't get the pick next year anyways since it's protected from #1-7 and #17-30.

It’s one of the reasons I bristle whenever someone talks about the “great assets” McD got us.

A couple mid round picks ain’t all that special, especially since our leverage in those trades was zilch due to McD not having the foresight to see the problems staring him in the face that put the kibosh on any leverage.

I'd like the Bucks pick more if it had back end protection on it until it's completely unprotected in 2021, which is also the year we get Miami's pick unprotected. That could be a good year for us in the draft depending on how things work out. Unprotected picks are quite valuable in today's NBA but it seems the only way to get them is for a pick to have a lot of protection stopping it from conveying sooner.

OK. The last hope for that pick this season is that Miami beats the Raptors and Milwaukee loses to the Sixers. Then Milwaukee has to win the coin flip. The likelihood is that they both lose (the games, not the coin flip).

So much for that...
