Well there are a couple games that have to go just right first....then the coin flip. Seems like a lot.
There is a chance that Toronto will have nothing left to play for against Miami and the Sixers have been on a roll and are still playing for seeding. There is a decent chance those games go our way.

OK. The last hope for that pick this season is that Miami beats the Raptors and Milwaukee loses to the Sixers. Then Milwaukee has to win the coin flip. The likelihood is that they both lose (the games, not the coin flip).
So much for that...
So much for what? We still have a chance with a coin flip if things go accordingly on Wednesday.

Honestly, I am more worried about the coin flip. The Raptors have nothing to play for and are one the road, the Sixers are on a huge streak, they're at home and have playoff positioning on the line. I think the odds are really good those games go in our favor.

My only question is... who calls "heads or tails"? Is it Jerry? I love JC, but did he make the call back in '69? If so I hope me makes a similar one.

The Wizards could also win out and tie with a Bucks loss.

Thinking it through, it seems like the best-case scenario with the Miami/Milwaukee picks this year is packaging them to move up a couple of spots. Amd that's to grab someone the Suns are pretty sure won't be there by the time they pick.

And the trade partner might be interested only if they can deal one of the picks, maybe for a player that can be bought out, because does another team want consecutive mid-round picks any more than the Suns?

It honestly seems like the more likely trades are mid-1st this year + #31, or mid-1st + a 2019 pick, which I'd rather not.

The Milwaukee pick just may not be as useful this year. If it doesn't convey we'll run it back next year, and barring that it'll likely convey in 2020 when it's protected 1-7 only. With Giannis I don't see the Bucks falling that low.

If the Bucks win tomorrow, this won't matter. Otherwise, we should know whether or not we got the pick on Friday the 13th.

Also I think a player like Chriss or Bender plus a pick is a likely scenario for the Suns to move up in the draft or be utilized in a trade for another player. It would likely be the player with the most perceived value. Of course I'm talking about the Heat or the Bucks pick.

I didn't even realize this, but apparently Greek Freak has sat out the Bucks' last two games. Too bad they played the Knicks and Magic. Bodes well for them losing to the 76ers tomorrow though. We should all be rooting for the Wizards (on TNT) tonight.

Man, if the Wiz hadn’t gone down the toilet, this thing would have been wrapped up by now.

Washington wins! They get the Magic tomorrow and the Heat get an unmotivated Raptors squad. That means if the Bucks lose, the Suns have a good shot at that pick!

Chances are it gets traded anyway. Still be nice to have it though.

That pick is so protected this year do we really want it now? I guess the common wisdom on this board is we want to combine the heat and bucks pick to move up in this draft. But not sure the suns are thinking this way. This team is overloaded with youth and picks.

Here's the way I see it:

If you're another team, would you rather have the 16th pick in a strong draft or a future pick with protections, likely in a weaker draft class, tied to arguably the best young player in the entire league?

I'd say it has more trade value if it conveys, so that's what I'm rooting to happen.

The protection isn't that heavy.

That is true though. There is backend protection on it next year though which will add a little more value, I'd think. I still think that pick is more valuable than the 2021 Heat pick. People will bet on Giannis asking out of Milwaukee before Riley lets the Heat completely fall apart.

It's just hard for me to imagine another team wanting both adjacent picks this year, unless it's part of a three-team trade, or they have another deal already worked out to offload one. It's certainly possible, but seems complicated enough that I don't necessarily want the pick to convey just for that possibility.

But it would also be really fun as a fan, knowing that at least one of those picks is probably going to get moved. Depending on who's falling to those spots, another team might deal with the Suns to make sure Phoenix doesn't take their player.

Or the Suns might actually draft to players that end up in significant bench roles. Who know?

Just to review, the playoff seed doesn't matter. Any teams that finish with the same record will participate in a random drawing on Friday for draft positioning.

So...

If the Bucks win...

The Suns only get one pick, and that will be 15 or 16. If the Heat lose and Wizards win, it's 15. If the Wizards lose and Heat win, it's 16. If they both win or lose, it's a drawing for whether we pick 15 or 16.

If the Bucks lose...

There will be a drawing with whichever one of the Wizards and Heat win.

The best case scenario is that the Bucks lose and the Heat and Wizards win.

That means a 3-team drawing.

The playoff seeding doesn't matter at all. It probably should, but it doesn't.

All three games are at 5 pm today, and the Bucks-76ers is on ESPN.

Game 1: Heat vs. Raptors

The hope here is the Raptors are less motivated than the Heat. They're saying otherwise.

Meanwhile, Raptors coach Dwane Casey told reporters on Monday that his team is not about to coast into the playoffs.

"We're taking these last games seriously," Casey said. "Now is not the time to let bad habits creep into our game. We want to sharpen our game and be ready for the playoffs."

The Raptors held out two core players in Monday's win over the Detroit Pistons-- starting power forward Serge Ibaka, who was rested; and reserve point guard Fred Van Vleet, who has tightness in his lower back. There is no word yet as to whether they will be available on Wednesday, although it is assumed Ibaka will play.

Despite appearances that may suggest otherwise, Toronto's players and coaches insist they do have some things to play for on Wednesday. For starters, they would like to reach 60 victories, although 59 is already a franchise record.

"We want 60," Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry said. "It would be a great achievement for our franchise."

Game 2: Wizards vs. Magic

The Magic need to lose today to tie the Hawks and Mavs in the lottery standings. Should be an easy win for the Wizards.

Game 3: Bucks vs. 76ers

The 76ers should be motivated to clinch the 3 seed and avoid Toronto in the 2nd round. The Bucks are motivated to get the 6th seed. It's unclear if Greek Freak will be back after missing the last two games with injury.

So the playoff seed doesn't determine draft order? I thought it did. That seems odd that it doesn't and they'd do a coin flip for draft positioning only.

It is odd, but it's also what they do. Here's an article from last year when they did it, followed by a tweet from Jonathan Givony confirming the date for random draws this year.
