Diamondbacks' Clay Buchholz: Allows five earned in no-decision
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Buchholz allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over four innings in Tuesday's win over the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.

Buchholz worked out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the first inning and was staked an 8-0 lead after the third inning but it wasn't enough as he couldn't last long enough to get the win. All the damage came against the 33-year-old in the fourth inning, as he allowed six runs on just three hits in the frame. This was the first subpar start of the year for Buchholz, who'd allowed either one or two runs in his first four outings with his new club. The righty will boast a 3.21 ERA and 1.04 WHIP heading into Sunday's start against the Mets.

Diamondbacks' Jon Jay: First homer with new club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Jay went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Pirates.

Arizona was in jeopardy of blowing an eight run lead, but Jay's first homer with his new club gave much needed insurance to help put them back up by five in the seventh inning. The trio of hits were his first three in the five games since being traded from Kansas City. He figures to see more frequent run scoring and run producing opportunities now leading off the more potent Diamondbacks offense.

Opportunistic Diamondbacks look to sweep Pirates
PHOENIX -- Crack the door, and these days the Arizona Diamondbacks will blow right through.

Three times in their last four games, Arizona has made an opponent pay and pay and pay for a blunder here or a miscue there.

Pittsburgh Pirates[/a] at Chase Field. The game was not decided until Jon Jay's three-run homer in the seventh inning, but the decisive first inning helped them build an 8-0 lead.

Pirates drop eighth series in a row with 13-8 loss to Diamondbacks
Monday, meet Tuesday.

In another bizarre game characterized by bad fielding and poor pitching — this time, by both starters and relievers — the Pirates lost to the Diamondbacks, 13-8, at Chase Field. The game was defined for the Pirates by an ugly first inning in which they committed three errors, including two on one play, and allowed the Diamondbacks to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Pirates (32-35) dropped their eighth straight series and have now lost 18 of their last 24 games.

I love that Goldschmidt is batting 2nd. Some of that "analytics" stuff going on I'd assume. :)

wasn't much of that going on when he was hitting under .200 and left in the 3 hole for 2 months though

SP, and Bullpen have been woeful.
IIRC they spent a lot of money on the bull pen and now it is a weakness on the team.

Diamondbacks offense continues torrid June in another win over Pirates
The Diamondbacks couldn’t buy runs in May. Suddenly, they’re coming by the boatload.

Paced by a three-hit, three-RBI performance from outfielder Jon Jay, the Diamondbacks scored a season-high 13 runs in a 13-8 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday at Chase Field.

The Diamondbacks have scored 51 runs in their past five games, all wins. They scored a total of 76 in May, a total of 27 games compared to the 11 games the club has played thus far in June.

What do you mean?
he was hitting .209 in march/april/may and left in the 3 hole the entire time. when lovullo finally moved him down in the order he moved him all the way down to 4th, where he was even worse. i doubt any analytics gave reason for him to be batting that high. he finally turned it around, but you have to wonder how many games were lost due to his offensive black hole in the heart of the order
