Here is how it looks so far.

These 15 players "should" be gone when the suns draft.
(No special order)
  • c Andrew Bogut
  • f Marvin Williams
  • g Chris Paul
  • sf Gerald Green
  • pg Deron Williams
  • f Frans Vazquez
  • sg Antoine Wright
  • pg Raymond Felton
  • sf Danny Granger
  • pf Chris Taft
  • sf Joey Graham
  • pf Charlie Villanueva
  • pf Sean May
  • c Johan Petro
  • pf Tiago Splitter (I really think he will pull out with his contract problems)
These players “may” be available when the suns draft.

1. pg Monta Ellis
2. c Channing Frye
3. sg Martell Webster
4. p/f Andray Blatche
5. sg Rudy Fernandez
6. sg Rashad McCants
7. pf Ike Diogu
8. sf Hakim Warrick
9. pf Wayne Simien

These players “should absolutely” be available when the suns draft

1. sg CJ Miles
2. c Andrew Bynum (if he stays)
3. pg Jarrett Jack
4. c Randolph Morris (if he stays)
5. pg Julius Hodge (bubble 1st rounder)
6. pf Ronny Turiaf (bubble)
7. sg Kennedy Winston (bubble)
8. g/f Francisco Garcia

With the draft less than a month away, there could be someone that looks great in workouts and jumps from the 2nd round, or late 1st up into the middle of the 1st that can change this. But this is my take right now.

I made some changes to the list to see the players that are available to the suns when they pick.

The suns have supposedly bought in two players that they are thinking of at #21, but I am not sure who that is. Ike is not one of them, he is coming in on the 17th.
I think they would have to be first round bubble players Ersan Ilyasova & Ryan gomes.? They may have bought in someone else and no one knows about it.

His agent says he is taking him out now, and he may stay out for 3-4 years.
**** Channing Frye will now obviously go in the top 15-16.

These players “may” be available when the suns draft.

1. pg Monta Ellis
2.
3. sg Martell Webster
4. p/f Andray Blatche NBAdraftnet has him going #16, draft city #23.?
5. sg Rudy Fernandez
6. sg Rashad McCants
7. pf Ike Diogu Moving up. NBAdraft has him #21, draft city has him #15.?
8. sf Hakim Warrick
9. pf Wayne Simien

Ersan Ilyasova, Suns tried him out and he will be there. (18 years old?)
NBAdraftnet has him going #25. He is not in Draft City.

Angelo Gigli, Suns tried him out. NBAdraftnet has him going #40. Draft city has him going #28.

This player is getting some press. Roko Leni-Ukic, PG, KK Split, 21 yrs. old

Chris Taft sounds a lot like John Wallace.

The year the Suns drafted Nash everybody booed because they wanted them to take Wallace. About a month before the draft Wallace was projected as a top 5 pick and he dropped like a stone to the Knicks at something like #27 and never did much.

Other pre-draft stones?

Quentel Woods?

The only time I remember the Suns drafting at #21 they took Michael Finley. I hate Finley now and he makes way more than he's worth but I'd be thrilled if the Suns got a player of his caliber at #21 this year.

Chris Taft sounds like a less motivated/lazier version of Chris Wilcox to me.

When are we going to get the Chicago measurements from the guys who did not participate in the games?

There is no way (I mean absolutely not) that Diogu, Simien or Warrick will be available at #21.

If one of them will be he will be a huge steal for the Suns.

I know I'm going to take heat for this but I would take Charlie Villanueva with the 21st pick. But only if Diogu isn't there.

I have a really hard time believing the Suns will take anyone with a questionable work ethic. They are so close to greatness that I don't think they would want to deal with the frustrations/distractions. That said, a guy like health villanueva or even Chris Taft if he falls that far could be a low risk/ high reward guy they just couldn't pass.

I do have a sneaking suspicion that the Phoenix Suns have their eye on Francisco Garcia. He apparently has been shooting the lights out in his workouts, and one thing he would get in this lineup is plenty of open three-point shots. You may be a little on the skinny side, but he's the kind of versatile swingman that the Phoenix Suns need/like. I think it's likely that there are veteran big men who could help this team that would be willing to sign for the veteran minimum for a chance to really help a championship caliber team.

Historically much better 2s and 3s are available later in the first round and the Suns have found a lot of them. Good big men are rarely around after #20 and if you do find one its usually a guy that has to develop and won't do much for you for 2-3 years.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Francisco Garcia has worked out for the Phoenix Suns. I already wrote this somewhere else, but I think he would be a great fit with this team. He would also be a good, safe pick for the Suns. As long as they re-sign JJ that would leave them with enough depth at the 1-3 that they could use everything they have for free agency on the frontcourt.

I wouldn't be horribly upset if Garcia was drafted, but that would put a lot more pressure on the team to find inside help through free agency.

If Ike and Simien are gone at 21 , I'd be open to trading down. The best option is probably trading 21 and 57 for the Jazz's 27, 34, and 51.

In this post I made about the players the suns have tried out, George says he understood that the suns bought in Francisco Garcia for a tryout.

George, do you remember where you saw that?
Hoopshype is keeping track of the players for every team and he is not there working out for the suns. (that does not mean he did not)

If there is another place keeping track I would like to know about it, thanks.

I think that would be fine, because there seems to be quite a few players in the 2nd round this year that might be good for the suns to have. They also do not get guaranteed contracts.

I really like Garcia, he will be a fine NBA player. Since everything is quiet around him it's possible that he will be there when the Suns pick.

I doubt that a servicable bigman will be available at #34.

Although he is a great shooter, we already have Richardson and JJax along with JJ there probably won't be alot of minutes to give him and I don't like him at PG because he doesn't have alot of experience there. I'd rather have Julius Hodge if we were going with a versatile wing player.

I read the Suns worked out Garcia and the Suns were leaning his way (although it was an Gambo article)... the article was about the Suns working out Ike Diogu sometime soon at the time.

He doesn't have to play point guard to get minutes. He could play shooting guard or small forward when Joe Johnson or Jimmy Jackson are playing point guard. Julius Hodge might be a slightly better ball handler, but I think Garcia is better in every other facet of the game. He's a much better shooter. I think the Phoenix Suns wing players have to be a will to shoot well for this offense to go at full force.

The Garcia workout was mentioned in the Arizona Republic and on the radio. He was on of the few legitimate first round prospects they looked at.

As for my trading down scenerio, it is based on there being no useful PF's at 21. At that point, getting two picks makes sense even if they are a shooter and a backup PG.

David Lee got MVP at the Chicago camp. He reminds me a little bit of Jackson Vroman :) Decent scorer (13), good rebounder (9), solid passer (2.2), more of a theft (1) than a shotblocker (.8)... what did everybody think of Jackson Vroman? I sort of liked Vroman, actually and Lampe but like Vroman - Lee wouldn't be that high on rotation but Lampe and Vroman were always available for decent minutes here and there. Vroman really ran the court well, could rebound, and in College was too a good passer and theft... Lee is sort of a Lampe/Vroman packaged in one at 6'10. Although I might need to check how he measured...

I do think I'd prefer, to see if 1 of the top ranked bigs drop and if not, Draft a swing (Garcia possibly) that could get minutes in rotation but Lee had a promising start in College at McDonalds...
