Hard to do this poll. I pick Joe Thomas, but he won't be there. It would be Ginn though, if Thomas isn't there.

Ginn won't suck in the NFL...healthy servings of crow will be served by my hand soon enough. You all can lap it up.

I have not heard anything good about Joe Thomas. From this list I would take Peterson.

Huh? Almost all scouts agree that he's a franchise LT and an elite prospect in the draft. Not only is Thomas a better player than Peterson (though it's hard to compare two different positions), but he fills a huge need for us at LT whereas Peterson is a luxury pick.

So you think Edge is a better RB than Davis is a LT? We aren'rt watching the same team.

Doesn't it all depend on FA? We may have an opportunity to draft OL J Thomas or DE J Anderson? If OL is improved in FA, even with the re-signing of L Davis, I think we should draft DE J. Anderson. If we lose BIG in FA, and have the opportunity to draft J Thomas, its a no brainer.

Alan Branch all the way. Branch is the type of guy that can clog up the middle and help stop the run. That will free up our LBs to attack the opposing RBs unblocked.

Plus having Branch and Watson in short yardage situations would be like having the Great Wall of China set up on the goal line.
I agree 100%

None of those guys are a flat out need but there is nothing like a great DT on the line....

Branch & Watson as the 2 DT's? I like that idea...

Well, if it's already in your hand, it will be easy for you to eat it :D

Look, from what I've seen of him, he's far too up and down. He gets by on raw ability but does not run the best routes, run north-south all the time, and his hands are suspect. Asking any and all OSU fans I know, I have gotten the consensus opinion that he is vastly overrated and that Gonzales (sp?) will be a better pro WR. So, yeah, I think he'll bust in the NFL.

Michael Jenkins anyone?

Edge is ALOT better a RB that LD is a LT. That isnt even compairable...

You mean the guy who needed 36 carries just to gain 55 yards and 20 to get 41?

He makes way too much money for that kind of production. His 1 yard runs killed far too many drives. We need to move Edge to FB, where his plodding style and blocking ability are a better fit, and draft Peterson.

3 years of playing WR. 3 years. THREE. You think he isn't going to improve in the NFL?

The guy is flat out an amazing athlete, and a gamebreaker no matter where you put him.

And OSU fans are generally nincompoops. :D

With Shipp as good as gone, and J.J. not showing anything for a 2nd year vet who was a 2nd round pick, we DO need a solid back-up RB. Peterson would be nice. More fire power. Look at the Steeler's rushing stats the year they won the Superbowl with Bettis, Haynes, and Willie Parker:

Parker: 1202 yards and 4 touchdowns
Bettis: 368 yards and 9 touchdowns
Haynes: 274 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Cardinals comparison-last year:
James: 1159 yards and 6 touchdowns
LEINART: 49 yards, 2 touchdowns
Shipp: 44 yards, 4 touchdowns
ARRINGTON: 19 yards, 0 touchdowns (rushing)

Our new coaching staff know what a successful run game looks like. They know how to use running backs to score touchdowns.

Who scouts are these. Just a few tidbits from well recognized scouts:

" Thomas is the prototypical left tackle prospect. He has a long, lean frame with the room to add more weight as he gets bigger. He combines that size with excellent athleticism and agility. Thomas is a great pass protector with his mobility and his long arms, and easily adjusts to moves by the defender. In the running game, once he locks on to a defender, he’s not getting away. With his experience in the Big 10, he’s a player that will be ready to play from Day 1."

"An excellent athlete for the position...Has outstanding feet...Great size with long arms...Very mobile and agile...Displays great balance and gets set quickly...Able to pull, slide and block in space...Still has the frame to bulk up and add some more weight...Technically sound, instinctive and very smart with top intangibles...Rare prospect who can legitimately play the crucial left tackle position at the pro level."

"Thomas is very athletic for such a big man. He uses his hands and feet very well, locking onto his man and very rarely letting the defender get by him, much like elite NFL OT Walter Jones. Thomas recognizes and diagnoses blitzes well, and usually picks up the right man, which is a good trait for a blindside blocker in the NFL."

Leonard Davis is a painfully mediocre left tackle. He doesn't have good foot speed, or quickness, and gets owned by speed rushers (sometimes getting our rookie QB hurt). Edgerrin James is a futer HOFer who managed to get 1137 yards behind what for most of the season was one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Not much of a comparison there.

I have never liked the idea of judging someone based on what college they went to, unless you want to say they faced laughable opponents based on what college they went to.

The fact that Michael Jenkins, Ted Ginn, Drew Carter, Joey Galloway, and Santonio Holmes went to the same school is a coincidence and if there is any trend to be had there, it would be a positive trend as Carter and Jenkins receive from very erratic quarterbacks.

Ginn is my pick and I'm sticking by him. I say we grab him in the first, shore up our special teams. Other teams have shored up their return position in the draft and got instant contributions. Pacman Jones, Maurice Jones-Drew, Devin Hester, Santonio Holmes. I hope we're next. Then, take SS Aaron Rouse from Virginia Tech in the second or third round and convert him to FS. He has been clocked as the fasted safety in the draft and he looked really great late in the week at the Senior Bowl. Gotta see what he does today, though.

Stout, also one of the things I really like about Ginn is that he performs high on the big stage. This year, national championship game he takes the opening kickoff to the house (and his idiot teammates hurt him "celebrating"). Last year in the Fiesta Bowl he had at least two TDs, both of them sick, and an overall great game. He doesn't turtle in big games.

Whatever you think. Just remember that being an incredible athlete in no way, shape, or form guarantees you'll be good in the NFL, ESPECIALLY at receiver. And if we're going to draft a return man at #5, one who will often run sideline-to-sideline instead of north-south, then we're crazy.

I'm not judging him based on what school he goes to. The Michael Jenkins jab was a joke, dude. And the fact that the main reason you want him at #5 is to shore up our special teams speaks volumes. You don't draft special teams aces early in the first round, especially in the top ten. It's so unsound a draft policy it's incredible. Pacman Jones wasn't drafted because he was a great returner; he was drafted because he was considered a top corner, and he was ALSO a top returner. The rest of those guys weren't taken anywhere near the #5 pick. Since I wholeheartedly believe Ginn will be a terrible WR, I don't want any part of him at #5.

:biglaugh: @ the idea of taking Ginn in the first AND drafting Aaron Rouse to be our new FS!

Oh, you were serious?

Aaron Rouse is a strong safety (and sometimes that's debatable depending on who you ask) who would be EATEN ALIVE if you put him back at FS.

The Ginn love is hysterical. I can't wait to hear the crickets chirp around here when all those who have man crushes on Ginn find out he sucks in the NFL.

I read a scouting report on Ginn that says he does not like going over the middlle. I think some people are scared of him because he looks so frail.

I think all 5 guys are going to be stars in the league and all worthy of the 5th pick. If you look at Frank Coyle's latest reports he ahs Ginn as the 7th ranked prospect. He's already creeping up the boards and he hasn't run yet. You just don't come across that kind of flatout speed in a football player very often. Anthony Gonzales is not a better prospect than Ginn. Teams don't go into games trying to stop him like they do with Ginn. He's very good and is a better "pure" WR but Ginn brings more to the table in explosiveness and big play ability. The reason i didn't put Reggie Nelson on the list is because there's no way in the world he's a top 5 pick. I like him, he's a good player but he'll be lucky to go top 10. I'm kind of surprised Jamaal Anderson isn't getting talked about more. That's who i voted for. I think he has Julius Peppers type potential. If i had to list my choices in order i would go Anderson/Thomas, Ginn, Peterson, Branch.
