I agree but it still leaves the option open get a guy like Kirk Morrison or D'Qwell Jackson. Neither of these guys are going to be paid huge money and we still have the option of signing two players to over 5.5 mill. Just saying, it could get better before its all said and done.

im with you, I'd rather use a third on Morrison than Charlie Freaking Whitehurst

I'm pretty sure we can only sign one. Rolle doesn't count as player lost due to free agency. We cut him.
We get one for Dansby's contract and we are aloud to sign one player over $5.5 mill anyway being one of the 5-8 teams rather than the top 4 who don't get that one player.

Gotcha! I didn't realize that we could already sign one, regardless of if we lose one.

I sure hope we're not talking about Foote in this discussion about how many people we can sign over $5.5M. He's nowhere worth that...

We should even be able to get Porter for less than that. He only made an even $5M last year, bonus included.

Hell no I don't want Foote for over 5.5 mill. I want him for under that because I want to put him in Haye's spot and still try to sign a D'Qwell Jackson or Kirk Morrison to put in Dansby's spot. Jureki said yesterday that the front office was really down on Hayes last year and I see Foote as the same type of player.

But if reports are right and he wants to get paid, I'd rather trade a pick and pick up a better/younger player.

The final numbers are: a first year value of $5,807,475. (2 in the Cards case)

And an unlimited number for a first year value of $3,861,823.

I don't know if 3 yr/$14 million is really "getting paid." Gerald Hayes's contract extension in 2006 was for 5 years, $21 million.

I think we are talking about our payroll like we are balancing our own check books

We have no depth at ILB. If it takes us $5.5 mil/year to get Foote, so be it. He is one of the better ones at his position available and we need at least one veteran off the market. This will also be a position addressed in the draft.

K9 you're probably better at contract stuff than I am. Would we essentially be signing him as 1 of our 2 $5.8 mill player or can we work it out for under 3.5 and pay a big bonus?

Listening to Dockett talk on the radio right now he is talking like Porter is a lock to be on the team. He has been talking to him this whole time and Dockett sounds very excited about the possibilities.

I heard that too.

Also heard is pretty much saying that if he doesn't get a new contract this offseason, no offer will keep him here after that. Interesting...

I have a strong feeling that Foote and Porter will be Cardinals before the week is out. It's all there for us all to see, and I think it's pretty obvious to us all.

what did he say?
That he has watched guys leave the Cardinals and make some pretty big money. If they wanted to treat him right this offseason and keep him a Cardinal for years to come he is very interested in doing it but if they let him get to the last year of his contract then he will just ride it out and take the helicopter ride like Antrel did for NY.

Also said he doesn't think Whiz will let it get that far and he thinks the Coach will treat him right. Sounded not to worried about it which is interesting.

God, those two jabbering on a defense would drive me crazy. Add in my hopeful 1st rounder Sean Weatherspoon, and we would have the all-mouth team.

Except one that is higher than all others. He's going to sign with the highest bidder, even if it's the Cardinals...

That's a better question for Joe than me, but I don't think we'll be using the Dansby exemption at this point, so we can sign him for essentially anything that doesn't make him the highest-paid ILB in the NFL.

And we don't have to budget for Joey Porter, either, because he was cut.

I see Foote signing in the $2-3M per area. Porter gets more...$5-6M somewhere in there.

Exactly. I'm thinking if he wants $14 mill (comes out to $4.6 mill a year/no bonus). We can sign Foote for under 3.5 and still have to big contracts to sign. Still have the ability to try and sign some more players with no restrictions.

I don't see Porter getting $5-6 mill a year. I think his first contract comes in under $3.5 with some incentives in a 2 year contact.

I hope you are right, Moe...but, Bryant McFadden is sitting there at $5M this year, more than what Dockett is being paid. Porter can have a far greater impact than McFadden, it's not even close.

McFadden also came from a SB winning team and has no history of being disruptive with coaches. Porter has to much baggage for $5-6 mill a year.
