We’re in such an awful position. If you are committed to the idea that our only realistic path to the division is to get to 10 wins, then you actually want to root for the Rams. If we win out, the Rams cannot win the West (with their presumed loss to us in Week 17, the best they could do is 10-7). Having them at exactly 10-7, however, may end up being critical to saving us if Seattle also finishes 10-7. If it’s just Seattle and Arizona at 10-7, Seahawks win the West. If it is a three-way tie, the Cardinals win the West, Rams are #2 and the Seahawks are #3.
If you’re hoping for a path to the division at 9-8, then it’s a bit more murky as to the possibilities. The Rams can help us (see above) or the Rams can overtake us. If you figure they will beat the Jets and also need to beat the Seahawks, then we would need them to lose to SF to finish 9-8.
A tie this Thursday between LA and SF is actually a pretty bad outcome for us in almost all scenarios.
My advice: don’t watch this Thursday. Whatever you root for will happen and end up being our downfall.
