Pre-Scud, what was your record prediction up to the Bye?

Just curious. We sit at 2 & 1 which, I would believe is where most people thought this team would be after week 3 with Matty at the helm. And with Matty as our QB, how many were predicting a victory in weeks 4 & 5?? Sure - some will now say "I did!", but if all are being truthful, did you expect much different than a 2 & 3 record at the bye week? At best, perhaps you could say our chances of beating S.D. were slightly better (though it's so debateable) with Matty here, putting our record at 3 & 2...

I guess my point is that with or without Matty, our record now and come the bye is probably where it would've been had Matty been named our starter.

We travel to Seattle coming off our bye. Always a tough place to play, but we have handled them pretty well as of late. It's a winnable game. After hosting the Bucs (another solid shot at grabbing a W) and traveling to MN (Loss), the most crucial part of the season begins in week 10 when we host the Hags, travel to KC, host the 9ers on Monday Night, host the Rams and then host the Broncos. In a 5 week stretch, we have 4 home games! We then close out the season at the Panthers (toss-up), home vs the Cowgirls (toss-up) and we finish up at the 9ers (tough game for us as always but who knows what condition that team will be in by then).

I really don't believe it's out of the realm of reasonableness to believe that we can string together a streak that would take us to 6 & 7 or perhaps 7 & 6 thru week 14.

In short, I think the West will be won with 7 wins. I just don't believe it's that difficult to create the pathway to those 7 wins... Of course, it's much easier for me to say this here than it is for the team to somehow get it done each week. But, after the bye, we'll have Doucet back, along with Breaston. Beanie will be healthy. Same for Fitz. I think that 5 week stretch beginning in week 10 will absolutely make or break our season - even if we enter the bye at 2 & 3, which is where the vast majority throught we would be...

I'll fess up. I thought we'd be 2-3 before the bye, unless SD has one of their patented early season letdowns and handed us a gift. Still holding out hope for that scenario.

Possibly. But I also didn't predict our record would come thanks to a janakowski 30 yard missed FG and a breaston strip to save a TD.

I also would have given us a shot to upset NO at home or SD on the road, but there's no way I think we'll do that.

So I would have said realistic 2-3, possible 3-2, but definitely not the 0-3 moral defeats we have currently.

The real struggles come post-bye with Scud. But we'll probably have Hall then anyway.

This thread is about what your predictions WERE, not what your predictions are NOW.

What the heck is a moral defeat. Makes no sense, jerkface.

Just admit damn you... Prior to Matty being sent packing, you had us at 2 & 1 after week 3. You had us at 2 & 4 or 3 & 3 perhaps at the bye week... Just come clean dude. Soft-pedaling your Matty crush is simply the best you. :p

82? We only play 5 games to the bye week, which is week 6. So we can't possibly be 2-4 or 3-3.:p

I had them at 2-3, which is right on target. However, I also had them beating Seattle twice and winning at Kansas City, which I am much less confident about now.

My opinion hasn't changed. I've said several times since immediately following our 1st preseason game that the best we could hope for at the bye week was 2 - 3. I still believe that. Oh sure, we could get incredibly lucky and beat someone better than us but it's not likely. Not when you already had to get lucky just to beat two teams that were worse than you.

Yeah, Cards are going to lose points in the Coaches Poll. The BCS, fuggedaboutit.

Why does this matter anyway? It's all politics. We'll be disqualified from the post season after we get sanctioned for hiding Beanie's surgery status from fantasy players. Oh, and our Power Rankings will never be strong enough to get us in the BCS. Stupid east coast bias...

Yes, because similar to college football, style points matter in the NFL...

:mulli:
Yes, they do... in determining how the team may perform rest of the season and against quality opponents. If you get poopy wins over the worst teams in the league, there is no way you can be even remotely confident the team can be competent against quality teams.

:mulli:

2008:

- Scrap out a win against the lowly 9ers, 29-24
- Get pasted by the Jets (56-35), Eagles (48-20), Vikes (35-14) and the Pats (47-7)

Go to the Super Bowl and almost win...

2009:

- Lose twice to the lowly 9ers (20-16 and 24-9)
- Squeak out a win against the putrid Rams (21-13)
- Struggle to win against the horrific Lions (31-24)

Go on to win our 2nd consecutive division title and beat the Packers in the post season...

;)

And if we improve in the next few games in all facets of the game, and we will have to improve drastically, that may still happen.

In the previous two seasons, the blowouts and the squeaking wins against bad teams were spread over the season with some good games in between.

In 2008, the team was learning how to respond to wins and had the blowout losses to Eagles and Patriots after it was obvious they had the division in the pocket. Against Jets, we at least came out strong in the second half but the game had already been over by the end of first half.

In 2009, I don't remember any blowout losses although the MNF game against 49ers can be in that category. That was more us playing over emotionally and shooting ourselves in the foot by our own dumb mistakes.

But for this season so far the team looks bad in all three games.

That WAS my prediction BEFORE mullit. My prediction now is certain 2-3, and if the NFL could they'd vacate the last win and we'd be 1-4. I'm still not sure that won't happen.

Moral defeats are where despite the score you take away a lot of shame because you flat out sucked so bad a peewee team was laughing at your skills. We are three for three on those this year.

I think I just gave it to you. I had us at 2 & 1 at WORST in week three, and 4&1 at best going into the bye. 2-3 was my WORST going into the bye, and now it is our best case scenario, IMO. Worst case is they give a win back because they feel guilty.

Forgive me for not getting excited about being two plays from 0-3 after playing the rams, raiders and falcons.

Sorry but being a lifelong Cards fan and dealing with the crap calls and years of bad bounces I would think you would be ecstatic. Truly.

Being a lifelong Cards fan and dealing with the crap calls and years of bad bounces has given me the eyes to see the writing on the wall. We aren't good. I have seen several mirage wins over the years, and they all feel like this. Lucky to win a game, not gonna win many.

This feels like most of the seasons I've watched, and I'm good with that. I know how to enjoy bad football...trust me. But I find it kind of funny that people are silver lining this start as if the wins mean we will be good this year.

Those sneak wins will just save us from being 5-11.

7-9, here we come...see, I still have some koolaider inside of me yet.

To put it in another way - I love the wins, I revel in them. I hate the season, it turns my stomach.
