I bet he sees maybe 1 quarter, 2 Tops this preseason. For a bunch of reasons:

1) Never before has is been so important for the starter to get reps with the first unit since Wiz has been here. Leinart will take a lot more then your usual preseason for a starter.

2) Much the same Anderson needs to be given reps to get confidence going into the season.

3)Now with Skeleton playing well, the Cardinals are going to want to see even more of him to make sure he can continue to produce under game conditions. This from Urban in the Bird Blog today:

(Whisenhunt said he hopes to get fourth quarterback Max Hall

some playing time this week but “we have to make sure we are buttoned up with our first two guys before we can really devote a lot of time to the other two.”)

4) and most importantly. I have been mystified by the local love given to Max Hall about his prospects to make this team. Many were saying before last week he would make the team over Skeleton. And not one ASFN reporter said anything about him standing out. Not one I can remember.

I think the coaches think they do have a hidden gem, and want to keep him off of the national radar by limiting his exposure and trying to sneak him through to the PS. Probably the biggest reason they don't play him much this preaseason.

This may seem like common sense to most, but I for one was looking forward to getting a look at him during game conditions and seeing what all the hype is about.

I don't think I am going to get the chance.

I've read a lot of hype about Hall, and I recall quite a few ASFN campers pointing out how he looked to be much more comfortable in the offense compared to Skelton. Unfortunately, he probably won't get too much of an opportunity to play, just as you said. With Skelton's performance on Saturday, and the need to give Derek and Matt some extended play, there's not going to be many snaps available to the guy.

The challenge about the entire process is that Hall from most accounts has a better grasp on the playbook. Skelton said in some postgame interviews that they simplified the offense for him when he came in. John's got the athletic edge, and will probably get more repetitions in the offense so he can catch up.

Probably too late. The only person who impressed Peter King more on his visit to camp last week was Fitz.

Like him or not, King has a huge national following. Gotta think somebody would claim him if the Cards tried to sneak him through.

With Skelton also playing well and being much bigger and stronger (and accurate), the Cards may have no choice but to cut Hall loose, no mater how impressive he is. They aren't going to carry four QBs on the active roster.

Damn. Good find. That sucks.

Any other team can have him.

A couple things I have mentioned in other threads:

1) Whiz has mentioned a number of times over the years the difficulty in getting reps for 3 QBs. Skelton's biggest need is experience and reps. Keeping Hall here severely limits the reps available to him.

2) People act shocked that Hall looks better than Skelton. Skelton has a tougher adjustment then any other player on this roster, possibly the league. It obviously will take time.

3) Did anyone honestly watch Max Hall much in college? I am not talking youtube highlights, but entire games. If so, I doubt you would have any problem letting him go.

BYU only beat my hapless 1-10 Lobos by 6. Hell TCU beat them by 35.

How good can he be?? The other question would be, why would I go to that game and submit myself to a slow and painful death???

It's a disease, I guess

I've seen hall play 3 times and came away completely unimpressed in all facets of his game... I won't bat an eyelash upon his departure...

Hall is Toast!

LMAO!!! Classic!!!

Also, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly this board jumps on a guy - for no reason whatsoever...
Why in the world would we wish bad things for Hall? Or for him to leave? At this stage, all we know is that in camp he was outperforming Skelton, but Skelton had one decent preseason appearance where Hall didn't see any action.

How, based on that, people conclude that Hall should be gone is lost on me...
Wow...

I think Hall will be gone for one reason. He will be on our #4 QB and someone else will jump on him when he tries to clear waivers.

We traded McFadden to get the pick that we used for Skelton, right? So essentially, we traded a #2 CB for a #3 QB. Steep price. Max will have to blow him out of the water to jump ahead on the depth chart.

Since Max may not get much playing time, how is he supposed to do that? The answer is that he won't and we will move to put him on the practice squad. I bet someone else will swipe him before that happens.

I don't think we concluded that based on that one preseason game. I base my reasoning on all of the factors I mentioned above.

Ok... I'm actually a Skelton fan. Would really love to see the kid blossom into something very special for us. I think he's got the tools to do it. Time will tell.
I just felt it was a bit premature to be wishing Hall was gone from the team...

Im not syaing he should be gone. I am sure he is good camp fodder, but I have seen him play in college and wasnt impressed. I havent 'turned' on him. I hope he makes the team or the PS and has a long NFL career.

I hope that's not what you took away from the OP. I wrote this because I think the Cardinals are purposely going to limit his reps so they can stash him and then keep 1 of Anderson or Leinart after this upcoming year depending on who pans out.

This Peter King and Bickley love is mystifying me though. I had heard that he was looking better then Skeleton, but mostly because Skeleton was looking horrible. For him to be standing out to so many people, yet not one poster noticed him in Flag is leaving me bewildered.

From what I have seen, Skeleton is my guy (as Joe astutely brought up, I think we have a good idea whats Wiz's type of QB after seeing Big Ben, Anderson, and Skeleton as his choices) for his potential, but I am very curious about Max Hall and am interested to see him play.

Could we save money by cutting Anderson and putting Skeletor #2 and Max #3?

If so let's do it.

Serious question - Why do you say he's a crybaby? I've never heard that about him...

Splitsecond (and myself) are UA fans. Max was orginally a commit to Tempe. Maybe that plays a part?

For me once you are a Cardinal, you could have been ASU's best player ever and I would cheer for you.

Well there is no cap so cutting just to save money wouldn't be a very good idea. I kinda doubt the coaching staff would feel very comfortable with 2 rookies backing up a QB who hasn't proven to be the most durable guy.

If Whisenhunt feels that Skelton & Hall are both better QBs right now than Anderson that is the only way that happens (and I doubt that is the case)

I personaly hope the kid makes it somewhere. I understand the coaches need to see what he has on the top. If Skelton wouldn't of had a solid game Saturday, he too would get less reps!
