I mourned a bit last night that the Suns signed Tolliver instead of Davis. Coming into the season I thought Tolliver could spread the court with the occasional 3 point shot. Not so, Tolliver seems content to camp out at the 3 point line shooting bricks instead of going inside. So far he is a one trick pony who cannot do one trick. Tolliver should try to take the ball inside once in a while to get his rhythm. If the Suns had acquired Ed Davis he would have helped the Suns at the 4/5 as an inside presence.

I'm still scratching my head at TJ's minutes. I was hoping TJ would get a decent 20 mins or so in the rotation but judging by the preseason minutes (which perhaps is a bit folly), he's not going to get anywhere close unless there's an injury.

I read this tidbit which might explain last night's limited minutes.

An opponent jersey gets a #Suns player again. T.J. Warren hurt his left thumb when it got caught in a Lakers jersey. It'll be examined Wed.

Probably has something to do with it.

Ugh. That is not good. TJ is ready to play and can produce instant points. They have to find him minutes.

The game was only close because Kobe played deep into the game against our backups and was on fire. He hit jumper after jumper over Tucker with ease. The Suns played all of their backups basically against the Lakers starters and won. Kobe did come out with a few minutes left in the OT because he hit his 34 minute cap and that's basically when the Suns backups pulled away & won the game.

Green, Isiah Thomas, Dragic & Bledsoe had great games. Plumlee had a pretty good game in limited minutes. The Morri were average at best. Randolph probably had the best game of his life & it's fools gold... he shoots line drive 3ptrs with no room for error. Tolliver was trash. Goodwin, TJ Warren & Barron didn't play long enough for me to make any observations on him. Our backup PF/C positions are going to be our downfall all year. Obviously if Len can come back and has made a solid improvement then that will be huge, but we have no NBA quality backup PF on the roster.

Ed Davis looks like a steal for the Lakers... they got him for $1 million a year. I don't know if he can hit a shot outside of 5 ft, but he is active on defense, rebounds & can block shots. Lin also looked pretty good for the Lakers.

I live in the Los Angeles area, so I could see local coverage of the game. The Suns' only offense is for one of the PGs to penetrate and then either finish himself or find someone to kick it out to. None of their wings can create from the perimeter and no one is a threat to post up. Markieff Morris showed none of the improved interior play that characterized his greater impact last season. Yes, it was only one game, and maybe the Suns have looked better in other ones. But the team I saw last night won't be much better than .500.

I'm not sure about the near .500 forecast but the Suns have looked the same in their other preseason games. If Len cannot contribute, it may be a long season barring a trade.
