Coach Ken Whisenhunt spoke for the first time after Anquan Boldin's comments yesterday:
"Nothing has really changed," Whisenhunt said. "You (media) have been at practice every day. We've been communicating. If communicating is talking, that's what we have been doing at practice. As we go forward, I don't know. I don't foresee anything changing. If it does, it's in his court. To me, it's not really an issue. Nothing has changed from a few weeks ago. I feel the exact same way about Anquan, he is a good football player, the Cardinals have extended his contract once, tried to do it again, and our intent is to do it (again) the first chance we get."
Whisenhunt noted that multiple players have talked through the media in an effort to get new contracts. "It certainly is not out of place. I understand the frustration. It doesn't change the fact we are excited about our football team, we are excited about the progress we are making, and we are looking forward to the season. There are a lot of guys that are counting on Anquan, because he is a good football player."
Whisenhunt said he had not yet talked to Boldin on the subject but he did talk to Anquan yesterday about football.
"Our position hasn't changed," Whisenhunt added. "We fully intend to (revisit the contract). We had the issue everyone knows about with Larry and that certainly affected our cap. We are trying to build a team that will be successful for years to come. In order to do that, you have to be smart about the cap."
