Saw the crawl on ESPN. Checked the Cardinal site. Read Urban (who 3 hours ago said Graves reported one official offer that the Cards didn't take seriously). And then read Swd's ESPN report a few moments ago.

The two comments don't square. (Graves had previously said that the Cards never had set an asking price for Boldin. How can you "lower" your asking price if you never established one). Either Graves has been disingenuous or the ESPN report is faulty.

Reports of a second rounder "plus other stuff" doesn't make sense and should be considered an insult to Q.

(Note - The "2 sources" cited by ESPN could very well have been one of the teams plus Drew Rosenhaus; so I'd be inclined to wait for more info).

It would suck, but I think they are now dead set on trading him beacuse of the money.

Would be stuuupid considering they dont have to pay him anything for 2 more years.

Sal Palantonio is the idiot, not Graves. He's trying to lower the damand for his Eages cronies.

Please, please trade Q. Better for him, better for us. Nobody but nobody is going to give a first for a #2 WR headed for the downside of his career.

My position is still the same. I do not believe he will be traded and that will be bad for both Anquan and us. I pray this rumor is true.

This may be true and here's the reason why: as Whiz alluded to earlier in the week he and Steve Keim believe that once you get past the first 8 picks or so in this draft there are a significant number of equally rated players to choose from...which is why it really makes no difference whether the pick is a first or a second if the team can get the same player they want or a player similar in the second round. Iactually do think there is some credence to this rumor.

I was also thinking today that we might hear Rosenhaus come out and say that Q would be willing to play at his current salary for a year and redo his contract next year. That would raise the level of interest a great deal, IMO, as the money would no longer be an immediate factor. This may happen tomorrow if no progress on a trade is evident.

You might ask why would Q do that? If he wants out of Arizona that badly he would figure that he was going to have to play at his current salary anyway.

If the considerations are a decent player and a decent draft position then I'd be for it.

Johnson and Carter on ESPN said this is just another example of the Cardinals "not trying to win".

D Urban just filed this update 17 minutes ago:

Following up on today's earlier news, GM Rod Graves said the lone trade offer for Anquan Boldin "didn't come close to something we'd consider" and Graves thinks Boldin is going to remain in Arizona. Things can always change on draft day, of course, but talking to Graves, it certainly didn't sound as if that change would come from the Cardinals' side. Either some team comes with a better offer -- and that potential contract Boldin wants is a big reason teams are hesitant right now, it looks like -- or Boldin will stay.

eff them... Its a rumor...

If true, then I would scream for Graves head if for only a 2nd rounder. If it were a 2nd and an impact/probowl defender then I would say its pretty good.

Get ready for a lot of that. They've made little headway in re-signing their big name guys, such as AW, Dansby and Boldin. Warner's deal took weeks too long to finish up. The only re-signings other than Warner have been the vet. min. guys like Berry and Haggans. Graves is a ******** idiot and I hope they don't extend his contract for this season.

A 2nd round pick for a top 5 wideout?!? This ****ing team has lost its marbles.

We may have a Super bowl caliber team and coaching staff on the field right now, but we have a third-tier front office running the show.

this board (including me) will be incomplete meltdown mode with all the trade speculation between now and our pick

You're right on target Mitch. I've heard that it is a very deep draft through 3 rounds and then tails off considerably. In fact I've heard it said that you can probably get as good a player in the second round as in the second half of the first round.

We get to caught up in first rounder vs. second rounder. If Whiz has a player targeted in the upper half of the second round that they feel has first round talent they should have the freedom to make the move.

This is such a difficult situation to figure out because there is someone lying on every front (for obvious reasons).

1) The league says the Cards ask for 1st and 3rd, The Cards say they never set price.
2) The Cards say they aren't shopping Quan, but then "lower" the price that was supposably never set.
3) Quan says the relationship isn't reparable and then completely softens his stance.
4) The Cards say that they really want to keep Q, but then reports come out that they are lowering their price, which would make this not true.

There are is so much posturing going down it's unbelievable.

Either:
A) The Cards are trying to lower Q's value publicly so he has to accept less money.
B) Other teams are posturing to try to get the trade demands down.
C) The Cards won't ever be willing to pay Q what he wants and would rather just wash their hands of the situation and move on.

My point is that we are all ignorant to believe anything out of anyones mouth at this time of year. I say "we" because I am one of those. As ignorant as it may be it still builds suspense.:D

Did anyone hear Pedro Gomez on ESPN a few minutes ago? He said an "unamed player" said the situation can't go on any longer. I agree, the situation needs to be resolved and Boldin last week clearly stated the same. It's time FO, pay him or move on.

Well that's the thing. Someone WILL anty up a Houshmandzadah
type of deal, but the MAIN problem IS giving up good cheap young talent in order to do it. Teams don't like to do that going into the draft.

A 2nd this year might be all we can hope for. And added pick(s) next year.

I dont blame Q. If my employer were doing the same thing to me, I would be pissed off and want a quick resolution. Except in Qs case, he just cant leave, he is under contract. The FO has been playing games for a year now.

Maybe the Cards all along would accept a second and a possible starter veteran. Maybe they let the 1st and 3rd rumors persist just to bait and switch other teams into thinking we're lowering our demands.

I just remember someone earlier in the week on this board saying it wouldn't affect the way Q played or the locker room. Obviously, it's emerging in the clubhouse.

They can't pay him. Dansby apparently isn't resigning (so no extra cap room, other than James' potential release) They have to get Wilson's deal finalized. He's next in line. Anquan's being demanding about the situation. They have to do something. Best thing is to get him out of the NFC preferably unless someone can blow our socks off. Like a 2,3 and 4.

Mitch made the point that there's not alot of difference in talent as well, in the late 1st round (where all the offers for a 1st would be coming from, if any) to the mid, second round. Not alot of difference in player rankings/grades. So they could get a very decent player for 2nd round dough. That's something that's appealing.

Or, maybe the Cards had no intentions of trading Q. Just by saying they would be foolish not to listen to offers the whole thing became a media storm. This turns into that, that turns into this, and it's all speculation generated by the media for their own benefit.

Keim's comment about a "flat" group of first rounders after a fairly small group of elites may have some merit strategically.

But if the Cards are using this as justifying settling for less for Boldin, I think it's nothing more than a cop-out for bad negotiating.

Give me the choice between having, say, a #21 pick and a #51 and I'll take the #21 every time.

Do not trade him to any NFC team for any thing less than a 1st and 2nd. Just plain stupid to give him away to a competitor in our Conference. Keep him. If he does not want to keep his end of the contract, then sit him. That would be the better defense for us against other teams!
