Rackers days are over?

The Cards were reported to be talking contract with Rackers. Obviously, they are too far apart to make up the difference if this is true.

I'm going to be sad if Rackers leaves too.

Wait....

Missed FG attempt at end of Packers playoff game in 2010.

Missed < 30 yard attempt at end of Niners game in 07 to lose it.

Missed 30 yard attempt at end of Bears game, to lose it, the most painful miss I've personally experienced.



Now, I'm over Rackers leaving. In fact.....

I know I'm not going to feel like I'm going to puke the next time i see our kicker line up in a true, pressure situation at the end of a game.

and, no that Atlanta game didn't count for much. We were eliminated from the playoffs thanks to his shanked chip shot against the Niners two weeks before.

yeah, I didn't want to bring up that that game had all the meaning of a pre-season game, but since 40 has gone to great lengths to spin anything Rackers did into him hitting clutch kicks, seems like it's a fair point to make.

40, you act like we're the only ones holding Rackers up to a certain level of competency but here's the bottom line, seeing as he brings so much else to the table (tackling, pooches, onsides) our own team must REALLY have very little confidence in him to make kicks when it counts, otherwise, what possible reason could they have not to have him resigned already? Because he wants a premium that no one else is even close to offering him?

Your guys are about to find out just how valuable a kicker can be. Mark my words.

2007 told me how valuable a kicker can be. If you have one as erratic as Rackers, it could be the difference between making the playoffs and missing them.

Kickers are like closers in baseball: very streaky and effective at times, but once their confidence has eroded it is extremely tough to get back. Rackers looks like someone who is trying not to miss.

that's nice. a defensive player takes credit for winning a game as opposed to copping to they just got lucky because the K choked. good evidence... not backed up by anything that happened on the field as the video has showed.

In Urban's blog, when asked if he thought Wiz has soured on Rackers, Urban merely replied:

"I think missing key kicks do not help a kicker."

This is a case of Occam's Razor folks. Sometimes thing are just what they seem.

Whiz clearly likes the guy because of these things, to keep him around like he did. But, he had also clearly lost confidence in him, especially over 45 yards. How many times did we see him pooch it this year when two seasons ago it was routine for Rackers to try 50+ yd kicks? That's what he used to hang his hat on as a kicker, and he lost that ability too. Remember how he came up short from 48 against the Saints at the end of the half?

yup, another reason why he was 16/17... it shouldn't be tough for a k to hit that number if he never has to hit a long FG all season long.

re-read what I edited... i mis-worded the above. It wasn't Wiz's words from his mouth, but I think it's safe to say that's the prevailing thought if Urban's saying so.

I think he is saying the good may not out weigh the bad with Rackers...but if the contract is right he could still be the kicker here and be effective....I might be stretching a bit;]

Big time players, make big time plays, in big time games.

Rackers doesn't do that.

I could care less about the stats, and what not getting thrown around.

Personally, when I think of Niel Rackers. The first thing I think of is if the game is in the final seconds, and the game is on the line, he WILL miss.

Not good. Not good at all.

Sorry, for all his tricky kicks, passion, tackling, etc., etc., I still can't stand the fact that he hurts our football team in a way that we cannot rely on him to win a game in the final seconds.

In the NFL. ANY kicker that misses sub-thirty yard game winning field goals attempted within the final minute of the game, CONSISTENTLY, is not going to last long.

Mentally I think Rackers is way to fragile, and he has problems keeping his poise. Not to mention he has been injury quite consistently as of late.

Just time to move on.

I won't miss him, he's just a kicker. I agree with Shane that he's as good as anyone at onside kicks and tackling, but he needs to better in the clutch. That's where they make their money.

I don't get it I thought Rackers was a real weapon (according to Whiz) and if Feely is so good how come the Jets have let him go and Miami before that?

I remember what happened to the Cards after the Jim Bakken years. It wasn't pretty. Anybody who expects a kicker to make every kick isn't being reasonable. I'm sure Rackers won't have a hard time finding a new home.

You forget Mr.Clutch for the Cardinals.

"Chris Jacke's 31 yard game winning FG in season opener (1999) at Philadelphis makes him the first NFL kicker to win 4 consecutive games with walk-off three pointers."

Talk about a guy making some pressure kicks in '98 where one loss knocks the Cards out of playoff contention.

If Rackers leaves, you guys are going to realize what a valuable asset he was to this team and just how hard it is to find a good kicker.

I have always liked Rackers. He was part of the team the past three years that saw us win division titles, go to the superbowl. Big leg. Big man. Sorry to see him leave if that is the case. Any kicker will miss important kicks over a few years. He had a range of well over 50 yards and can kick balls into and out of the endzone. I doubt we are going to find a better kicker in free agency. Good guy.

ok... we're the Cardinals so of course he'll hit it against us. But against anyone else? I'd make that bet 100 times out of 100.

If he leaves let us see who signs him and for how much. If he signs with a contender that will give a good indication of what other teams think of him. I just do not think he would leave to go to a non contender.

I have mixed emotions: Rackers bring a lot to the table, but does have a penchant to miss the big kick.

I just dont see anyone better available...
