Add in that the Cardinals (3-5) already beat the Seahawks (4-4) once and this team can win the NFC West this season with a strong finish in the final eight games.

I base my opTIMism on the following:

- The team plays very well at home- with the great 12th man advantage!
- The team will be as healthy this week as its been in many weeks- OT L.Brown and LB Karlos Dansby back in line-up. Plus another week of healing for QB K.Warner.
- I believe in this coaching staff and current roster. I think we see an aggressive, exciting gameplan this week against the Lions. A trick play or two on offense and more blitzing on defense.

A Cardinals win on Sunday will potentially put them back in 1st place come Monday as the 49ers seem to own the Seahawks when they play them on the road.

Somebody has to win the NFC West. Somebody will host a home playoff game. That somebody is the Arizona Cardinals! It all starts this Sunday vs. Lions.

Go Cards/ America!

You still need a good record to host a home playoff game. Not all division winners host a playoff game.

Its my understanding (and correct me if I am wrong) all division winners are the top seeds -no matter the records. Meaning- for example- the Cardinals (NFC West winner) at 7-9 could host the 11-5 wildcard Lions in a playoff game.

Unless something has changed recently you are correct.

The two lowest seeded division winners host the two wildcard teams in the first round. The winners advance to play the top two seeded division winners.

This post is about two weeks earlier than usual, and is probably way too early to be truly effective.

The generally accepted principle behind this type of post is "Hey look! Even though our record is this bad, we still have a shot at the playoffs!". Of course we really don't, but it is fun to fool ourselves for at least a few moments.

But we have to be at, or below .333, for this to be truly effective. With our being only one game out of 1st place, the Wow! factor is severely diminished.

Of course, after watching the debacle in Tampa, perhaps the message is, "Hey! Even though we are playing like hammered dog poop, we still have a chance at the playoffs!". (Of course we really don't, but it is fun to fool ourselves for at least a few moments.)

You are right. I looked it up.

Once it happens, (which it hasn't yet right?) the rules will get changed.

At the end of the 2005 season, on wild card weekend, the 10-6 New England Patriots hosted the 12-4 Jacksonville Jaguars.

At the end of the 2003 season, on wild card weekend, the 10-6 Baltimore Ravens hosted the 12-4 Tennessee Titans.

They know what can happen, and it's not about to change.

it's happened a lot. just off the top of my head, I remember the Broncos run to their first Super Bowl as a Wild Card going through division winner Pittsburg, even though the Broncos were 13-3 compared to Pitts 11-5.

i appreciate the optimism but they have backed me into a corner as usual so to keep my sanity i expect calamity and hope for the best to win the west,

however i see a six game slide into the scrap heap and on to the draft from here,

building my hopes up over and over again is too much for me at this point, the reality of the losses are to depressing

How long before the Cards send out their invoices for playoff games? Of course they will apply the money towards the next season if they fail to make the playoffs. The audacity!

this is what i needed a thread like this!

come on lets do the Lions and somp on the Hawks in the own crappy little nest.

this is the best shot we have had at the payoffs for freaking ages now lets ride it.

NOTE: my usual pessimistic tomes are doing for me or the Cards so i am going with this until the playoffs are gone. :stick:
