Really...why do you think Shaq was traded?

I am like the biggest Shaq fan on the planet, I love the big fella and always have.

But I am getting my signals crossed. Pat Riley insisted he wasn't going to trade Shaq and then a week later he did. So what came to that decision? I know they both had a rift in practice a few weeks ago, but other than that their relationship seemed fine.

Pat will officially say it was to rebuild around Dwyane and free up cap space, but you know there is more to it.

So what do you think?

I realize none of you followed the Heat, but the rift was made public to non fans shortly after it happened...

Better yet, I wonder if any of it had to deal with Shaq's relationship with Dwyane. As far as I knew, they were extremely close. Even Wade's reaction was that he would miss him...

Just stuff I am wondering...I can't picture this being another Shaq-Kobe deal down the road.

I honestly believe Pat traded him because he felt he needed more money to get more players to build around their future; Dwyane.

Just to add on, Shaq went their to contend. Not to win it, get swept in the first round and then not make the playoffs because the team failed to keep role players and try to go get new ones...

Shaq has too much pride to play for a losing organization, he expects to play in the playoffs...

But he even said he was shocked he was traded...

So who knows the true story.

The Heat were just plain bad and going nowhere so why not start to build around Wade as you mention. I can't help but wonder if Riley wants to start running with Marion in the lineup.

I dont know if you are trolling or not, but if I had a 20mil dollar contract on the worst team in the league, I would try to move it too. It was a solid business move.

The Heat traded Shaq for many reasons. His rift with Riley, his performance on court, and his injury problems. Simply put, he was doing them little to no good but still had serious trade value, so the move made sense for them.

That doesn't mean Shaq won't be useful to the Suns, just means that Miami wasn't going anywhere with him. Shaq won't play for a team if he's not motivated and he wasn't motivated in Miami. Shaq will phone it in if he's not happy, and that's what he was doing with the Heat. He seems happy in Phoenix though, so we'll see how much, if any, his effectiveness is increased with the change of scenery.

Hey guys, the truth is simple as hell!

Shaq doesn't want to play hard for the first half the season! He want to reserve himself for the later half of the season and playoff! This has been the case for many years!

Riley is a drill sergeant! He wears all of his stars down by over-work them in training. He even runs 2 hours intensive practice in game day! This has also been the case for many years!

Come on, these 2 got to blow up sooner or later.

Don't worry about it. It's just the board has been bombarded by such lately. Positive contributors are always welcome.

I felt it was trolling because the reasons for moving shaq are more obvious than moving marion, yet we arent questioning why marion had to go.

Sorry, I just wanted to ask the simple question...

On a related note, y'all see the youtube video under UJustGotSunsd? That video alone is the reason they got Shaq...

1. West stakes got raised when the lakers got Pau.

2. Disgruntled Marion most likely wasnt going to resign.

3. The run and gun offense wasnt doing it.

4. Shaqs work ethic was really starting to clash with Riley. It wil be interesting to see what shaq has left. One issue I have always had with him is that he takes terrible care of himself and I hope he has one more season in him as I dont want to remember him as a shell of himself. I still think he has something left.

5. Cap reasons for Miami.

The Suns knew they wouldn't win the championship with the team as it was, D'Antoni's assertion notwithstanding.

Their choice was to trade Amare or Marion, one of them had to go. There is enough smoke to know they didn't get along very well. They chose to deal Marion and stick with Amare. Amare's knees make it risky, but I think it was a wise move to stick with him.

Marion is a very good player, in fact the past few years he has been one of my favorites. But, I think a talent like Amare doesn't come along too often. I am a bit nervous because the aforesaid knee issue, but think it is a reasonable risk.

I like the trade and wish Marion the best.
