Boom! Another big commit for ASU 4-star OLB DJ Calhoun, also from the Bay Area. This is shaping up to be the best recruiting class for ASU in years.

Yep, things are looking pretty dismal, stealing 4 star recruits from USC

Arizona State’s big win over Washington two weeks ago is paying off in ways outside of the Pac-12 standings.
On Sunday, four-star linebacker D.J. Calhoun committed to ASU just eight days after watching the Sun Devils defeat the Huskies 53-24 at Sun Devil Stadium. The El Cerrito (Calif.) High senior is the third recruit who was on campus

that weekend to do so, joining teammate and receiver Jalen Harvey and Highlands Ranch (Colo.) ThunderRidge offensive lineman Sam Jones.
“That visit blew my mind away,” Calhoun said. “I never knew it was going to be exactly like that. Their defense. The town, the city, the fans, the players. I was talking with (senior safety) Alden Darby, who was my host, and he said he wished he had two more years there with the coaches because they treat everybody like family. He loves the education

part. He just loves it, and my visit lived up to that. Just being around everybody, I felt like I was already going to school there. There was just something about it that really got me. I thought to myself, ‘I need to be here.’”
Recruiting service Rivals ranks Calhoun (6-0, 205 pounds) as the nation’s No. 9 outside linebacker. Scout.com has him 11th, while 247 Sports ranks him 14th. Calhoun had reported scholarship offers from 11 Pac-12 schools. He initially committed to USC but reopened his recruitment shortly after the school fired coach Lane Kiffin.

I think it would be a great idea to help recruiting if Coach Graham would fly around in a helicopter to try to make an appearance at several high school football games on Friday night.

Wait a second, what the--

For Arizona State football coach Todd Graham, there is no better way to be spending a Friday night during his team’s bye week then to visit some high school

games around the state of Arizona.
“We are going around tonight hitting as many schools

as we can on our off week,” Graham said. “It’s great to see the great coaching and talent, and there is nothing like Friday night lights.”
Graham traveled to three games by helicopter throughout the evening. He started out at Chandler Hamilton before coming to Scottsdale Saguaro. He ended the evening by going to Chaparral.
“Saguaro is one of the top schools,” Graham said at that field. “We came here tonight because of our interest of some of the players out on the field.”
One of those players Graham could possibly be interested in is Saguaro athlete Christian Kirk, who did not disappoint with a two-touchdown effort. He also forced two turnovers on defense in Saguaro’s 55-28 win over Higley.

I think we may start to see an upswing in ASU recruiting in So. Cal. due to the disarray at USC and UCLA.

Sarkisian was a very weak hire for USC, especially after the losses he was piling up at Washington this year.

Now, Washington is rumored to be going after UCLA coach Jim Mora who lives in Seattle. Even if he decides not to jump ship, things seem more shaky at UCLA now.

Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I think you are absolutely onto something here. I posted a similar thought in a different thread. USC may have knocked over a domino that will start a chain reaction that leaves the LA schools scrambling behind ASU for a couple more years.

We can hope, at least.

I definitely think there is a chance for Graham and ASU to make in-roads into the LA market that have historically been off-limits/dead-ends for ASU. I think Graham himself, as well the momentum and success he has generated will lead to better recruiting efforts across the board, but most noteably in L.A.

Mora just signed an extension to stay at UCLA. I don't expect to see any disarray there anytime soon.

Yes, as of now, but as was discussed during the radio interview they will drop once recruits commit/sign with other schools.

Just the first time they've ever been #1 at this point, but it won't last.

Well, ASU is still in the mix for some elite prospects including Casey Tucker so some may defect but how ASU replaces them is still to be determined.

I forget what coach was calling for an earlier signing day (Saban I think) but I think Signing Day should be in December as the HS season is pretty much over at that point and verbal commitments aren't worth a damn these days.

That's all speculation of course...nobody knows exactly how it will al shake out in the end. All schools have a variety of 3 & 4 star recruits on the line... Time will tell, however, I like where ASU sits at the moment!

The Gump Hayes commitment is huge. Of all the RBs ASU has on the line now, he's the one who could have the most immediate impact. I would prefer Hayes play RB and Ballage play LB. I'm just kind of meh on Ballage at RB.

ASU's class could get even better if they land Tucker & Quinn Bailey. They are in the running for 3 DE's, an OG & a few JC players so it should be an interesting next couple of months.

That's awesome!

And we added another 4 Star yesterday.
http://www.azcentral.com/insiders/d...adds-4-star-athlete-to-2014-recruiting-class/

Arizona State’s 2014 recruiting class received a boost Wednesday night with the commitment of four-star prospect Kalen Ballage.

Ballage — a 6-foot-3, 220-pound “athlete” from Falcon High in Peyton, Colo. — is highly regarded. Rivals ranks him as Colorado’s top prospect and the nation’s No. 7 athlete. 247 Sports ranks him as the state’s No. 3 prospect and the nation’s No. 29 athlete. Scout.com lists him as a three-star running back.

Of course, we need all these guys to actually sign the dotted line in February.

Well, Michael Eubank is transferring. Good for him actually, with Kelly having another year ahead of him.

"Sophomore quarterback Michael Eubank asked for his scholarship release and will transfer, Graham announced. The 6-foot-6 quarterback last season had a decent role in ASU’s offense, but it was reduced this season. Eubank mostly played sparingly in goal-line situations and didn’t do much to take advantage of his mop-up opportunities.

Eubank completed just 4 of 5 passes for 70 yards. He also ran 13 times for 20 yards and three touchdowns.

“We wish him the very best,” Graham said. “Great young man. We’re going to try to help find him a home.” "

This should open up things behind Kelly for Berc. and recruit Manny Wilkins.

If that is "Gump Hayes", Gad scooped you at 11:48 yesterday :)

Nice to see that I am not the only one that posts stuff without noticing the prior posts. I think I announced ASU had the 1 or 2 recruiting class, not noticing that you had already said the same thing.

De'Chavon Hayes immediately becomes the fastest player on ASU's roster. This is a huge get that was made possible by Darrel Williams flipping to LSU. What a great fit for the ASU offense. Probably my favorite recruit along with QB Manny Wilkins.

Check out Hayes here (one of my favorite highlight reels): http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1458410/highlights/16555375?autoplay=1

Also Tashon Smallwood is a huge get. Both Alabama and Oklahoma offered this guy and were hoping to get him. Former USC commit. Here are his highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1266414/

Man if ASU could land local guys Tucker & Bailey that would be huge. I wonder if Natrell Curtis is looking to staying home now that Sark is out at UW or if he is firm after the hiring of Chris Peterson? Better question is would ASU be interested in flipping him?

Today ASU picked up 3 Star/4 Star (depending on which source you like) JC DE Edmund Boateng. Should help patch the hole of ASU losing so many Seniors on defense a bit.

This recruiting class is really coming together nicely. It would be nice to get more of the highly regarded local kids, but it is what it is. Hopefully Graham keeps things going in the right direction and that'll sort itself out naturally.

If ASU can somehow land Casey Tucker (which will be tough over Stanford), ASU will have landed (arguably) the highest or one of the highest rated kids from AZ 3 years running (Dj Foster, Chans Cox, hopefully Tucker)...so at least that's a silver lining.

I don't know how solid Smallwood's other offers were. It was pretty clear none of those schools you mention above had him in their primary plan. He was also downgraded from a four-star to a three-star on at least one service.

His ceiling is very high, but his every-down motor and his technique are question marks. Great get, but probably not someone who will come in and play right away (or should play right away, anyway).
