The only move Kerr has made to show me he isn't an idiot is hiring Terry Porter. However, that was a pretty obvious choice given the available candidates, so lets not give him too much credit.

Why is Ford a ticking time bomb with his injuries? Yes, he's had injuries, one was to his head, in an extremely freak accident that most likely won't happen again.

Sure, Ford doesn't want to back up Calderon, thats understandable since he was brought in thinking he'd be a starter. But to just automatically say he'd be a cancer because he's backing up a 2 time MVP and future Hall of Famer is beyond absurd. He's got a few years left on his deal, and is extremely young, he'll probably improve his game (and specifically his outside shooting, I hope). He could be the Suns PG of the future when Nash hangs it up.

Lets compare Diaw and Ford head to head in 07-08:

Ford...............Diaw
12.1 PPG.........8.8ppg
6.1APG...........3.9APG
2.0RPG...........4.6rpg
1.1spg............7spg
46%FG...........47%FG
88%FT............74%FT
29%3PT..........31%3PT
23.5MPG.........28MPG

So Ford scores and assists more in less minutes than Diaw. Unsurprisingly (since Diaw is 8 inches taller), Diaw has more rebounds. Diaws FG% one would assume would be much higher than Fords because he's a big that plays inside mostly, but that area is mostly a wash. Ford is a very good Free throw shooter, which would lead one to believe in the future he may be able to develop a 3 point shot.

I'd strongly consider trading Diaw for Ford straight up, and the Raptors want to throw in a pick! Sure the #17 pick isn't a great pick, but with as old as this team is, it gives the team the chance to roll the dice, and perhaps pick up a rotation player for the future (something they're currently very short on).

#17 isn't a pick where you're going to get a sure fire great player at all, but it is a place where you can usually get a rotation player. Heck, Jermaine O'Neal was a #17, David West was a #18, Josh Smith was a #17 and so was Danny Granger. So recent history shows there can be nice players in that range, I think this is definitely a move worth making for Phoenix. Call me crazy, but I'll gladly take a 24 year old PG, with experience running an up tempo offense that has 222 career starts.

EDIT: I think this trade is terribly unbalanced (in the Suns favor) thats why I love it, but lets ask some Raptors fans what they think.

Not that the fans know everything (or anything most of the time), but its pretty clear to me that this trade would favor the Suns.

Yeah, fan opinion would be the last thing I would look at to evaluate trades. Just as an example, half this board is full of Laker trolls that want to ship out Amare for next to nothing for the "good of the franchise."

NJ/PHX deal in the works? This came off the ESPN boards. This guy writes for the Star Ledger in New Jersey>

Dave D'Alessandro reported Friday on a Richard Jefferson for Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa rumor. He described it as "utterly nonsensical, but breathing". Fred Kerber wrote Saturday about "the Nets even moving back from 10". Now Chad Ford says the Nets are "poised" to deal RJ while the Suns could deal Diaw and Barbosa for a small forward and a higher pick so they can take Russell Westbrook or Joe Alexander.

Full deal
Suns get:

Richard Jefferson
#10 Pick

Nets get:

Boris Diaw
Leandro Barbosa
#15 Pick

PG Steve Nash
SG Raja Bell
SF Richard Jefferson
PF Amare Stoudemire
C Shaquille O'Neal
6th Joe Alexander

PG Devin Harris
SG Vince Carter
SF Boris Diaw
PF Brook Lopez (#15 and #21 for Lopez)
C Nenad Krstic/Josh Boone
6th Leandro Barbosa

If the Suns don't have either of the deals with Portland or Toronto, then I'd do this one.

If the Suns make that trade I might kill myself. Has Jefferson adequately recovered from his knee injury he suffered a year or two ago?

Jefferson is a major talent. I wouldn't hesitate.

That would not be a financially viable trade, as we are losing out draft pick AND two players, while still over the cap and having to sign at least 3-4 more players.

I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but I'd rather have Vince Carter.

Here is a new rumor on the Blazers who seem to be leaning toward keepint thier pick.

http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonathan-Givony/

There are rumors that the Portland Trailblazers may keep their pick after all, particularly if one of the top two players on their board can be had somehow on Thursday evening. We’ve heard numerous reports of trade talk between the Blazers and many other teams drafting below them, but now it seems likely that they stand pat if they can somehow managed to get a hold of Joe Alexander, who worked out in Portland on Tuesday (with Donte Greene and Nicolas Batum) in front of the watchful eyes of their owner Paul Allen, and apparently left quite an impression. Russell Westbrook is supposedly ranked at the very top of their draft board, but they would have to move up to at least 8 and possibly higher to get him.

-Another player that Portland could very well take a long look at (since Alexander and Westbrook are apparently out of reach) is Alexis Ajinca, who they are reportedly extremely intrigued by. Other teams that have worked him out recently have come away raving not just about Ajinca’s exciting combination of skills and physical tools, but also about his strong intangibles. He is reportedly impressing teams with his terrific personality and motivation to succeed, and is believed to have excellent leadership skills. There is an outside chance he could be drafted as high as 9th by Charlotte. Teams who did not do their research on Ajinca during the season (and there is no shortage of them unfortunately) beyond what he showed at the Hoop Summit are frantically trying to get him in for a workout, but to no avail. Ajinca last visited the Utah Jazz and will likely turn down a workout with the Phoenix Suns in favor of the 76ers on Tuesday. It’s possible that Portland goes full circle with the French connection and selects him and Nicolas Batum, should he slip to the early 2nd round.

So if these rumors both come to life, you get a backup PG who will be able to get significant playing time and not embarrass himself, one who's still young enough to be the PG of the future, a sharp shooting SG/SF who is still growing PLUS 2 extra first rounders for Diaw and Barbosa??

Where do I sign up? If I'm Kerr, I take the Diaw for Ford/17 deal without a second hesitation. The Barbosa one, I may ponder, but only briefly. The idea of working with three first rounders, plus two solid young players is enticing enough for me to jump.

Well he won't be an idiot for pasing on Ford!

Why is Ford a ticking time bomb with his injuries? Yes, he's had injuries, one was to his head, in an extremely freak accident that most likely won't happen again.

Well, this paralysis thing (has lost feelings in his arms and legs) has happened 3 times in his career. Once in college and twice in the NBA. All 3 times that happened after game episodes. I agree that those were more of a freek accidents, but those accidents have happened several times and there are no guarantees that might not happen again. As I understand, this thing can't be cured, and there might also be a chance that next time this paralysis might not end in couple of hours.

Sure, Ford doesn't want to back up Calderon, thats understandable since he was brought in thinking he'd be a starter. But to just automatically say he'd be a cancer because he's backing up a 2 time MVP and future Hall of Famer is beyond absurd. I never said he'd be a cancer! I don't think he is one now in Toronto. I have read a couple of his interwievs and had impression that he doesn't want to back up anyone. It is not just backing up Calderon. It is sitting on the bench in general. He thinks he is a starter and want's to play starters minutes in any team.
Why do you think that backing up Nash is gonna make him happy if the guy wants to be a starter ??

I'm leaning toward yes on the Diaw trade if there is a good player at #17, but the paralysis factor is very scary with Ford's long contract. I also really hate PG's that don't have range on their shot. The Suns would have to have one or two deadly three point shooters in when Ford is playing in order to spread the floor at all.

Also, I don't really want Ford as the PG of the future but he'd kind of have to be with that contract. If I got to see Ford on TV once in a while I could probably make a better judgement.

If there is an opportunity to get 2 first round picks and two solid rotation players for Diaw and Barbosa, the FO better get the deal signed...

You mean kinda like what we were paying Diaw last year?

:)

Just sayin.

Oops, I forgot to add that 18 min per game with suspect neck and back that might break down in a season or two. ;)

Diaw plays 30 min a game, bzw.

Regarding Ford, I live in Toronto, and while I haven't followed the Raptors that closely for a couple of years now, I still watch about 10 games a season, and I have several friends who are diehards. My impression is that people around these parts think TJ is a decent player,
and they have no real animosity toward him, i.e., he's not seen as a lockerroom cancer. If it weren't for Calderon, I think people would be OK with keeping him, which is to say that if the Raptors only had TJ, he's good enough at the point that there would be more urgent tasks at hand than replacing him. He's also willing to put in the work to improve his game. For example, one of his biggest weaknesses when he came here was his jumpshot, and he's improved that aspect of his game a great deal over the past two seasons. He's definitely no Nash or Ray Allen, but it's not a hole in his game anymore.

So TJ's a decent player, and good enough to be Nash's backup right now. Does he have enough upside to be Nash's replacement in a couple of years? My guess is that he'd be a serviceable starter once Nash is done, but that he'd also be a weak link on a team that is a contender. One of the biggest complaints about TJ is that he's a bit of a chucker, especially in crunch time. Now, Amare is a much more accomplished go to scorer than Bosh is, so maybe TJ would be more willing to give up the ball to him, but that's a bit of a gamble. My impression is that he's a bit like Barbosa in this respect, in that I don't think it's necessarily a case of him having a big enough ego to think that he needs to be the number one option, but rather he's just not a good enough playmaker to get the ball to the right people when the defensive clamps come down. Maybe he'll get better learning from Nash, but then again, Barbosa hasn't really become much of a playmaker under Nash's wing.

So, IMO, what we'd get from the rumoured Toronto trade is a serviceable starting PG and the #17 for Diaw. How that plays for you depends on how much you value Diaw and the pick.

A three way deal with the Suns, Portland, and Toronto seems totally impossible since Portland would not want Ford and Toronto does not have any shooters other than Calderon and Kapono.

toronto shoots very well, A. Parker is a 44% 3pt shooter, and delfino shoots 38%, bosh(40%). the raptors have great 3pt shooting balance.

Some new ones from Chad Ford's latest Mock.

“Even stronger are rumors that the Grizzlies are talking to a number of teams, including the Knicks, Blazers and Suns, about deals that would send the No. 5 pick to whomever is willing to take Brian Cardinal's awful contract (2 years, $13 million left). The latest buzz has the Knicks talking to Memphis about a deal that would send David Lee and the expiring contract of Malik Rose to Memphis for No. 5 and Cardinal.”

The other potential scenario for the Clippers is a trade. They've been talking to the Suns about a deal that would send Corey Maggette and No. 7 to Phoenix for Leandro Barbosa and No. 15.

I'm curious about the rumors of us acquiring small forwards (R. Jefferson, C. Magette). Is this a case of where there's smoke there's fire? Or more of people know we're looking for a starting SF and are just plugging our name in wherever.

It does seem suggestive that Barbosa is mentioned in most of these rumors. For those people who keep dumping on him, it looks like his regular season skill set is pretty valuable.

It is discouraging that Diaw's trade value is limited to the Raptors who are despirate to unload Ford. Let me repeat - DESPIRATE.

I hope that a change in coaching and perhaps the trade rumors will prove a wakeup call for Boris. IMHO, he has more under utilized talent than anyone else on the team.
