Since my last post, Ray has given up 4 HRs/5 runs while getting only 3 outs.

On the bright side... How great has Segura been? Making sports center plays out at SS now

Goldie got the biggest meatball he will see all season on 0-1 and he just watched it go by... Then he struck out. What the heck is going on with him?

I'm not that worried about him. Batting average isn't good, the rest of his stats are still excellent. Passing up tasty pitches early in the count isn't new for him either. I don't know what his exact approach is, but watching him over the years I kinda figure early in counts he is sitting on specific pitches and if he doesn't get it he doesn't swing and he is disciplined about it.

Man our starting pitching is so damn awful... And as I mentioned in another thread, as long as that continues, coupled with Goldy's bizarre "lost his mind" approach at the plate, this team is screwed... Should be VERY interesting to see what Zach does tonight. Will the offense need to score 10 runs tonight?? [emoji35]

The good news is the Dodgers couldn't score again (vs Padres) for their 5th loss in a row, and the Giants got stomped by the Mets 13-1.

It's too early to worry about other teams winning or losing.

Yeah there is no question that 1 or both of those teams is going to get it going. The fact that we are still so close to leading the division is fools gold at this point.

And I have to disagree about Goldies stats being ok. His OBP is high because of all the walks, but how long will that continue if he keeps slumping? He is hitting HR's but that is literally all he is doing.

In something like his last 25 plate appearances he has 3 hits and they are all HR's. No doubles, no singles. That's not Goldie. The strikeouts are high as well. I'm not ripping him, he's my favorite player of all time. But one need only watch him at the plate, if he wasn't wearing his jersey I would never believe it's him up there.

In the at bat I mentioned yesterday it was a huge situation where we desperately needed some runs. Goldie swung at a bad pitch for strike 1, then he watched a meatball drift down the middle for strike 2, then eventually popped out to the infield. Had a similar AB earlier in the game where he watched several good pitches go by then struck out swinging at a ball in the dirt. The guy is clearly not seeing the ball consistently.

I wonder if Goldie has had his eyes checked. Seriously. Nearsighted? Farsighted? Astigmatism?

When I was a kid, Carl Furillo could always be counted on to hit in the
.290's season after season.

One year, he slumped to .247. During the offseason, they examined his eyes and discovered dust particles, which they removed.

The following year he averaged .344 and won the batting title.

Ironically, average his .247 and .344 and you get .295.

Anyway, your observation as a fan that Goldie is clearly not seeing the ball consistently (going back to last season) is an area that should be checked.

He even said as much earlier in the season he said he feels fine and his swing is ok he's just "missing some pitches he doesn't normally miss." Which is exactly what we are all seeing. I hope it's just a slump but if it continues to the all star break, well then he will be in basically a season long slump and it's time for an eye exam/physical to see what is going on.

Going to the game. I hope to see 200 Mill do his thing. Might need a few beers if not.

Goldschmidt's OPS is .928. He's fine.
The high OBP portion of his OPS is from his leading the Major Leagues in walks. Which is not fine for a middle of the order batter and our biggest RBI threat. And our only remaining All Star. Nor is his .235 batting average.

Not being pitched to means Goldie has to be sharper and be able to react whenever he gets a decent pitch, which he has not been doing.

To say that he is fine is not only untrue. It is non-productive. Especially while playing half of his games in a hitter's park. Plus, as our big bopper, it hurts the rest of the team.

Another bad strikeout for GOLDY where he couldn't have hit the ball with a boat paddle. But yeah, he's fine.

The guy is clearly not fine so please don't come back when he does get it together, which we all a believe he will, and say; see I told you he was fine!

The guy is clearly lost up there. If you guys don't see it, you aren't watching the games

Really nice defensive play by Zack! Got the double play. Hopefully that gets everyone going. Crowd loved it

He was in trouble too so that was huge. Definitely broke some of the tension in here

Protection is a myth (and besides, guys are hitting all over the lineup anyway), his slugging percentage is fine, his OBP is through the roof, Goldy is fine.

Our pitching has been the problem. Period.

I have to side with 82 on this issue. I have been around a long time and I know how important stats are in baseball. But something is wrong with Goldy. Anyone who watches the games can see it. Yeah, stats are OK, but something is going on there. I don't pretend to know what the problem is, but you can see something is wrong there. The pitching is not causing him to look lost at the plate, IMHO.
