Al Johnson as an example.

He got a 3.5 Mill Roster bonus. All counted toward last years cap. If we did half as a signing bonus and half as a roster bonus we would have saved 1.3 Mill in cap space that year for other things but would have only incured a cap charge in this year, in 09, and in 10 of $437,500. Not exactly putting us in a world of hurt this year in terms of cap space, but giving us another 1.3 Mill to spend on a much needed quaility depth player. If we did that with all of the players we signed last year with roster bonuses our cap would only be 1.5 Mill less this season not the something like 10 Mill less to spend this year like you stated in your post.

You dont have to be in state to have heard from Urban or Sommers. Their blogs are awesome and give out a lot of info. Daily required reading IMO.

Like I said, this stuff isn't my ballpark. I know Joe and I know his qualifications, so if he agrees with you, then I will too. It's no knock against you, Chris, but he knows what he's talking about.

No knock taken!! I know he is much more knowledgable than me at this stuff. I think the confusion is what those payouts last year were. Were they accelerated roster bonuses? Becuase if they count the year they are paid, they would have counted dollar for dollar last year compared to this year. Joe is correct in that we could have structured it differently to save some money.

Maybe the information is lacking on my part. I thought the 10 million was a payout last year for things we would have paid this year. Maybe I misunderstood and what Graves was saying last year was we gave oyut roster bonuses instead of signing bonuses to "frontload" those contracts. But I seem to remember Leinart and Rolle getting payments which would be different than the structure of the players signed last year. Anybody remember what this 10 million was for?

Bunker Mentality

Hey guys, I used to be in the Army, so I'm trained to deal with messes like this. The shells are a-flyin' right now. Graves is stupid, he's an idiot, just get it done. Fitz is greedy, he's arrogant, he isn't worth it. I can't believe we're going to let Pace walk. What about FA visits...ANY FA visits? We even have a thread about our longsnapper. THe list goes on and on. Now, I am the first one here usually to blow up from such topics at this time of the year, and I agree with many of the frustrations on here. I'll probably end up exploding sooner rather than later. Right now, though, with how clutch this entire offseason is, and how necessary it is for us to do it exactly right, I'm worried, scared, and afraid to contemplate tomorrow, let alone next week and next month. What can I do about it? Not a damn thing. That said, I'm going to bunker down, read the news, and pray our organization really has moved forward, because these next two weeks will make or break our FO, our team, and our chances for next season. Bunker down!!!

I have just about stopped reading the Cardinals board and the Suns board. Those of you that have done your damndest to make this place a bastion of negativity have won. It isn't remotely enjoyable to read everyone's personal bitchfest on a daily basis. It wouldn't be bad if people would say their piece and move on but it is the same people saying the same crap over and over.

Not only that, but the fact that there are 10, count 'em 10, front page threads with Fitz in the title. This place is a mess.

I like it like this. There is nothing more boring to me than 25 Threads on obscure college players and mock drafts and which free agent is better than another.

This place has been more fun the last two weeks than at anytime since the Monday/Tuesday after the Bears game in 2006.

I wish I could disagree with you. I continue to spend five to ten minutes a day on the Cardinal board...but that is it. I see they are already hinting about bringing guys in next week NOR have they dismissed any signings...so why all the sky is falling stuff.

Well gee wiz, sorry to rain on your parade, Chris. It's amazing you brought this here, onto the thread where I'm declaring a bunker mentality so that I do NOT go out and go crazy about things, rather than on a thread where all of this crazy crap is actually happening. Way to blast me for nothing. Thanks for contributing to the problem rather than the solution.

Besides defending Fitz, I think I am pretty calm so far this year. Free agent class this year sucks. I said a while ago I would be happy with 5 good depth and role signings.

Other than maybe Faneca, I don't think there is an FA out there that we need or would help more than what we can get in the draft......that's how close I think we are........

Same here.

This place has been ULTRA fun.

Why? Cause there is so much to talk about.

But for the first time in about 2 years. THERE IS NO B.S. name calling, and chlidish insults.

There are "heated debates" but they all have been about the subject. I have not called JoeSchmo a poopy head, and he hasn't called me a "missing link"

We have calmly said that we disagree on stuff and given our points. It is been a lot of fun.

I say to Stout. Keep it going. Yeah you are passionate in your posts, and you have your philosphy on want the Cardinals can do (and unfortunately they are doing the exact opposite). But that is cool. We have been debating for DAYS! We can't stop now!

Seriously EVERY NFL team changes in the offseason. And after this offseason of losing this player, and signing this guy, and re-structuring another, we get to do it all over again the next offseason.

It never stops. There is never any certainty, and it drives us all nuts with anxiety. Thank goodness we can spew our B.S. insane theories at each other some where. ASFN! Baby.

Huh? I have been happy with the way things are going ?

It isn't remotely enjoyable to read everyone's personal bitchfest on a daily basis..

You are a mod on ASFN. At this point what do you expect ? ASFN is a haven for "bitchfests". No one EVER comes here when the Cardinals are doing well. Just the way it is.

It wouldn't be bad if people would say their piece and move on but it is the same people saying the same crap over and over.

That is because there are 40 different threads on the same subject. You're a mod start combining all the Fitzgerals threads and ask us to keep it on one thread. I would be cool with a 50 page "War and Peace type" Fitzgerald is a greedy loser thread.

Fitz is our best player. He will remain in the news until his situation is resolved. Nothing new about this. That is the way the news works.

Ain't that the truth. Remember when we were 3-13 and everone was cordial. Oh well, that's progress of some sort.

Thumbs up Stout. I've really broken down the Fitz situation into 2 sides. Either make a blockbuster offer to Fitz and make him a Cardinal for the next 5 to 6 years or decide to trade him now or next year.

Okay, I'm going to go pray some more.

I love the original post in this thread. Good job Stout.

As far as us bitching goes, thats what we are here for. Rugby said that well. When the team is doing good I am drinking beer and celebrating. I come on here to vent went we are doing bad.

I really dont get why you are shocked by this Chris. Our best player and the team are at a standstill and other's careers as Cardinals are at stake. If there weren't going to be heated discussions now, then when would be a better time IYO?

Rod Graves - I Don't Like You

There are 3 important times of the season for any team.

Free Agency

Draft

Games

- Cards can not do a damn thing because of his contract with Fitz...

I was thinking this team was moving forward, my hopes were high...now it's back to 2000. Going nowhere as all the teams sign all the players they want.

2 best guards in the NFL - Hutch and Faneca....we could go after him if we didn't have a ******** contract on Fitzgerald.

instead Leinart is going to have to dodge LB's and hope his other bones are solid.

I hate that the Cards can do nothing during FA.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
