I would be fine paying him that, but I think NO would just match it. Seems like a bit of a waste of time.

I'm content with this signing if it happens. Best case scenario, Gordon continues to score 20+ ppg, isn't a liability on the perimeter defensively, and part of the rebuilding movement. He's only 23, which means we're not falling back on bad habits and signing free agents that already have AARP memberships.

It's a move that's not going to put us over the top by any means, but at least we'll have one good player on the team this upcoming season and a potential bargaining chip down the road if we have the opportunity to trade for a superstar.

I'm a Clippers fan so I know Gordon's game pretty well. I also know he's good for 20+ games of injuries. With that said, The guy is a good, underrated defender. This guy works hard on the defensive end.

Yup. And I live in L.A. and pay close attention to the Clip Show. I love Gordon's game all around. He's not an elite defender by any stretch of the imagination, but is always asked to guard the best perimeter player on the opposition, whether it be Kobe, Westbrook, etc.

I remember a few of my friends who are fans felt they shouldn't have given up Gordon for Paul, but he was the signature piece that got the deal done.

A healthy Gordon likely keeps the Suns in the back half of the lottery. I hope NO matches.

Miami even got a top pick with Wade. OKC got two top picks with Durrant. I don't think Gordon alone makes a huge, huge difference. But at some point we have to start accumulating talent and I think Gordon would be a great start. I would love to have him.

Paying Gordon the max is beyond foolish. He is at best, a very good #3. You don't give very good #3's max deals, especially with the importance of the new cap.

I'd much rather pay Mayo 8 million than Gordon 15.

By Durant's 3rd year the Thunder were winning 50 games. This will be Gordon's 5th year. Wade was also injured all season and missed 30+ games to finish that bad.

If you're ok with signing a player who won't make a huge difference to a max contract as the Suns enter a rebuild, then we'll have to agree to disagree.

Yeah. Plus if they just wait a year they could have a shot at Harden(who may be more difficult to match anyway) who is a much better player to rebuild around imo.

I would be OK with this. Gordon's only risk in becoming a #1 or #2 player is health. If you are going to get a fa in this CBA there is going to be some risk.

Its great young talent. There will still be FA money available next year.

Just for the sake of argument, who was the last 6' 3" shooting guard who was worth a max contract?

The only problem with Harden is that he doesnt create his own shots, he was the same way at ASU.

Joe Dumars, but salaries were way different then. Allen Iverson?

You know, I thought of Dumars, but for some reason I remembered him as 6' 5". But you're right; he was also listed at 6' 3".

Iverson is a special case, but a good example. Of course I'm sure we agree that Eric Gordon is no Iverson.

I don't agree with that at all. Harden is very capable of scoring in isolation on good efficiency.

I think this is a just another bad idea. Hopefully if we go through with it New Orleans will match.. I have no problem with getting other teams to overspend even if it isn't really a plan but rather a side effect of Phoenix Suns failure to get the player they want. I would also have OJ Mayo at $8 million, but I'm not enthusiastic about that either. We are much better off meeting the minimum salary short deals and just sucking this season been overpaying mediocre players.

Guys, they have to sell tickets while they're sucking. Gordon might do that a little bit after fans see him a few times.

I would much much rather have Mayo for less money.

In my opinion he is the better talent, better defender, better playmaker. The difference between them is that Mayo was a 3rd option for a playoff team for most his career while Gordon was often the #1 option for a top 5 lottery team.

Given the same opportunity I think Mayo gives the same or better production.

It was a ghost town last year in US Airways center. Sans Nash, and with a team that's headed for a top 5 pick, wasting a precious max deal on Gordon, a nice but flawed player is just ridiculous and exactly the kind of move that Babby insisted he wouldn't make.

The Purple Palace will be a morgue, whether Gordon is signed or not. Luckily, NO will prevent us from making a gigantic mistake.

He's gotten much better at it, and Harden is a much better facilitator. I'd be hesitant to offer either max deals, but between the two, Harden is a much more attractive option.
