Ross is too much like Strawberry, we should get someone else.

Artest is a much better 2 than Bell. He handles the ball much better, he can create his own shot and must do so in Sacramento.

The last 2 years he shot 36% from the arc and 44% and 45% from the field and wasn't set up like Bell all the time.

Bell is shooting a poor 41% from the field and 37% from 3 in our system and gets just half the assists or defensive attention.

Artest is a psycho, but the Suns are going for it all this year. Bring him in for the rest of the season / playoffs and a Championship is likely IMO. Doubt it happens though.

Man, apples for apples. Pietrus isn't really in THEIR rotation, so that's disappointing that they wouldn't want to move Pietrus without trying to get their pound of flesh first.

The Suns are not expected to make any trades before the Thursday trade deadline despite strong trade talk between Phoenix and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Phoenix was working on a deal that would have sent a second round pick to Los Angeles for swingman Quentin Ross.

Ross, who is averaging 4.3 points, is set to earn $800,000 this season and would have filled the Suns need for a wing player.

That deal fell apart and barring a change of heart by the Clippers in the next three hours this deal will not happen, according to Sports 620 KTAR.

Phoenix will sign a player to a 10-day contract by Friday, most likely former New Orleans Hornets forward Linton Johnson.

Johnson was one of four players to work out with the Suns on Tuesday.

Carlos Powell, Bobby Jones and Ronald Dupree also participated in Tuesday's drills.

Doesnt look like Artest is going anywhere either. If we can't get him, its best that he stay in Sac.

Um you can't help it if another team won't trade with you.

You're right. But you can make it much easier by not giving away 4 firsts, James Jones and Kurt Thomas in exchange for cash and luxury tax savings.

The Suns had PLENTY of good assets to add needed depth and athleticism to their roster. They chose instead to pad the bottom line.

It is very hard to pull off trades when all you have past your core is Alando Tucker and a 2nd.

Maybe we can get James Jones from Portland using ATL and the TE from the James Jones trade. We could use a wing with a good 3 ball and decent defense.

So trades can still be announced all day today right? Just because the deadline has passed and nothing, doesn't mean the Suns didn't get anybody new right?

I think so. As long as they are submitted to the league before the deadline, they can still be accepted after.

Clippers Turn Down Phoenix's Offer For Ross

Suns stand pat at deadline

The Suns talked trade options with several teams but did not make a deal when the NBA trade deadline struck at 1 p.m. today.

Phoenix was involved in talks to acquire a player who would fill the vacant 13th spot but now will have to sign a free agent, preferably Linton Johnson or possibly Bobby Jones, by Friday.

To have flexibility for any upcoming buyouts around the league, Phoenix will offer a 10-day contract to one of the wing defenders it is targeting.

The most interesting deal Phoenx pursued was one that would have brought Clippers swingman Quinton Ross, a part-time starter for four seasons, to the Suns for a second-round pick. The Clippers turned down the offer.

Phoenix was looking to acquire a low-salary player for a second-round draft pick but also had a trade exception available to move. Taking on a higher-salary player with the trade exception becomes problematic because of the payroll and luxury tax hit it would create.

If the Suns offered a first round pick for a guy like Ross people would have freaked.

I'm not going to sit here and say the Suns have done everything right, but you have to work with what you have at the moment and apparently it wasn't enough.

I really don't understand the need for Ross. We already have an excellent wing defender who can't shoot in DJ.

None of the deals I have heard today really impress me. I think the Suns had a shot before Shaq and especially do now. With teams buying out guys, they could still get someone, but it isn't necessary.

I think the Clips wanted us to throw in DJ

the clips can go fluke themselves, I wouldnt do that. I think DJ is undeveloped and has real potential as a wing. He could be a nice player in a few years. Im glad the suns didnt bend over and give up DJ or the atl pick.
