Basketball is a team sport too, those guys get to go sit on the bench and get rest. Golf is a non stop grind for 3 to 4 hours of mentally and physically straining game guess that doesn't qualify to some of you as a sport. I would like to see any of you go and walk 18 holes of golf 4 days in a row in a high competition atmosphere and see how worn out you are after just 2 days. Also many times playing in high heat or rain & wind and or cold weather.

If you can play 18 holes in this heat and not be exausted, you are a better athlete than I. :)

I played 4 or 5 weeks ago when it was only 100 and it was hot.

You're crazy to play in that heat! I'm wimpy - I like a golf cart and plenty of beer breaks.

I'm done only a few dumb ones can't seem to grasp the Golf is a sport concept. Like I said its usually by people who know NOTHING about the sport. You can't just watch it on TV and say oh thats easy, if so I could play BBall just like Jordan!

Did you know that golf originated in Scotland in the 1100's? Fascinating. It's also the only sport that has been played on the moon, or any other celestial body for that matter.

p.s. Golf is a sport, anyone who says otherwise is clouded by personal preference or subhuman thought process.

What is the sense in insulting someone who doesn't think golf is a sport? Who really cares?

I'm not putting Golf down or diminishing the skill of those who are truly gifted. What's wrong with it being considered a game? There is something simplistic and romantic about that.

No golf cart. It was mostly a Par 3 course though, with a couple of 4's sprinkled in.

I love playing, but it is just too damn hot now.

Oh, and I suck at it.

Skorp come on man Mickelson a fraud? You are aware besides Tiger he has more wins than anyone else playing right? By a large margin as well. If not for Tiger, Phil may very well have 9 or 10 majors would he be a fraud then? Bad timing for Phil that the best golfer in the world is dominating during his career, but he is no fraud.

Yeah, that was harsh. I'm just jealous because he married a Suns dancer and flies his own plane, both things seem very appealing to me.

Yeah his wife is cute and very friendly I spent the day walking with her at the FBR last year, she was very nice as was Phil when he finished he came over and said hi. Phil is one of the true gentlemen in the game today and people get on his case for being to nice and not having a killer instinct. He is a phenomenal talent it just sucks for him that Tiger is dominating during his career.

Obviously, I do. I am not a fan of ignorant thinking. Golf has been a sport longer than any of us have been alive, and I find it disturbing that people think otherwise.

Ignorant? Disturbing? Wow. Step off the ledge. It's only an opinion. Perhaps you are taking it a little too seriously.

Saying golf isnt a sport is ignorant. How is that ledge-worthy? It's disturbing to think people dont see golf as a sport. A knock on the door during a nap is disturbing too. Where is this seriousness you speak of? Exaggerate much? Your reaction is more serious than my opinion, so lets not add hypocrisy to this mess.

Spoken from someone who most likely has never played golf. What if you're a designated hitter in baseball? I guess you wouldn't be an athlete, huh? I mean, all you're doing is swinging a bat at a ball.

I nominate "fly swatting" as a sport then and butterfly catching and how about badmitton if tennis and volleyball are sports.
Seriously though,
Golf is it's own thing. The fact that it is easy to hit the ball but hard to make it go where you want is fun and frustrating. No one can interfere with your shot usually so there is no one to blame for doing poorly but yourself and the course is relatively the same for whomever you are playing with or against.

The problem with golf for me is it takes 4+ hours to play 18 holes. 12-14 holes or no more than 3 hours and it would be more appealing.

I am getting better at it. I've only played twice this year so I'm not too serious about it yet.

In the republic today they had an article about great athletes who played through injury, starting with tiger walking up those nasty torre pines hills with his bad knee.

they also spoke of:

Donovan McNabb playing 3/4 of a game(against the cards) with a broken ankle, and completing 20/25 passes w/ the ankle

Muhammad Ali refusing to quit when Norton broke his jaw, fought for 10 more rounds

Schilling pitching the redsox to a world series win with his torn and stapled tendon/bloody ankle.

Dennis Johnson playing game 7 in the NBA finals against the lakers with a broken wrist.

When I started to think about it, I started laughing so hard I almost choked on my food. Comparing tigers knee walking around on a golf course to those other guys and what they went through seemed so out of place.
So now we learn that Tiger played and won the US Open with a torn ligament and two fractures. It's absolutely remarkable what he was able to do and his situation is equally compabale with the others listed above.

Kobe doesn't belong on the same conversation as MJ, but Tiger sure as hell does. He dominates his sport like Jordan and Gretzky both did.

Yeah I would like to see ANY other tour player or any of you go play 5 grueling days of golf walking around and swinging & put the torque on your knee and legs that he does with a torn ACL and 2 fractures. He is absolutely one of the most dominate athletes of our time and someday we will feel privilaged that we got to watch him for some many years.

Tiger tore his ACL while running near his house, not a golf injury. I dunno, sounds like the dude was out of shape, tearing his ACL while running. I guess all that golfing and traveling interfered with his physical training regimen. An ACL injury -for someone who is in shape- comes with something more than "running".

Sorry, never even heard of someone who tore their ACL "while running". ACL is not an injury that is typical among joggers. You know anyone who has torn their ACL while jogging?
