The Suns won't trade him if they have to take back a big long-term contract. Revisiting the Ben Wallace deal might be possible.

This part doesn't surprise me at all - being selfish again:

Oh, and Shaq, who's still broadcasting his love for Phoenix, is saying privately he wants out, upset to the highest level of upsetivity, as he once said, at almost being traded, or the team's return to running, or both.

First, I suspect it is all just media made rumor.

Second, it is so obvious that the Suns organization will try to trade Shaq in summer in order to shed payroll. This team is no longer a contender, no point to keep an old Shaq. Better trade him when he has some value left. So it is not "Shaq requests a trade". It is that Shaq knows he's going to be traded, speak about now, make it looks like a request, it will make himself feel much better for his pride.

The Suns need to be smart about it and trade him at the trade deadline so they won't get bent over again.

It is obviously in the best interest of all if the Suns can get a good deal for him, or they may have to deal with an unmotivated Shaq. I hope Grant is moved to a contender not because he hasn't being playing great recently but he is such a nice dude he deserves to have a shot at getting a ring before retiring.

Shaq won't be traded, he will want to see if in fact the run and gun style with Amare and Nash, can produce in the playoffs.

Next season could be something special.

Here is the thing. Shaq has been really good for us and can still play. The problem is I don't think this team is going to "reload". If that was the plan then 100% you keep him. I just don't think that is the case.

I think the team starts to rebuild in the off season. I think Shaq and Nash need to be moved in the off season if your going to rebuild. We can't rebuild around Shaq as old as he is and you can't rebuild around Nash. His turnovers are just ridiculous and can't play any defense. Nobody is going to take Amare not knowing how his vision issues will play out. You can't have 2 of your top players (Nash & Amare) both being bad defenders in your starting 5.

Go there and read the news in detail. You will figure out that the whole idea is from Cleveland, and no any legit source about Shaq said anything at all.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/la-sp-heisler-lebron10-2009mar10,0,6691717.story?page=1

If the Cavaliers don't get where they want, and size and the lack of an inside game remain issues, expect them to call the Suns, just to say hi.

Last time, it came up too fast, at too high a price (their payroll would have been almost $100 million), with too much risk (with their hands tied financially, it would be their last major move before James' 2010 opt-out), and too many other ramifications (what would they do with Ilgauskas?)

That was in winter. We'll see about summer.

Basicly it is just talking about how much the Cavs lacks of a powerful inside force to fight off the Celtics, which is the rock-block on their quest to final, also deeply threatened their attempt to keep Lebron. It suggest them to try to trade for Shaq again in summer.

By then, both Ben and Ilguaskas will enter final year of their contract. The Suns can pick one of them, plus a filler and a pick, take about 15M salary back. It works under CBA and will reduce our payroll under tax threshold.

He SHOULD be traded... seeing the Suns cannot be a contender with the current state.

well.....IMO he must be traded.

if we arent contending he wont be happy here. plain and simple. we arent contending with him, and wont be able to move forward with him, so what is the point in keeping him?

financially, he's a burden. and with his age and physical abilities, he's the exact opposite we need on this team.

looking at it the other way too, we are the exact opposite of what he needs at this point in his career. we arent winning, and at no point in the near future will we be winning. its down hill from here for a couple years.....and not somethign Shaq wants to be a part of at this stage in his career.

you do realize players get old....and when they get old they get worse.

Shaq at 38 and Nash at 36 isnt going to get you anywhere in the west. UNLESS you want to hit the lotto running....which is kinda pointless since we dont have a pick.

Trading Shaq is easier than you thought. Especially if our demand is just financial relief. His 20M contract has only 1 year left, makes it perfect for those teams preparing for 2010 summer.

You don't even need to worry about sending him to a non-contender team he has no intention to play for. They can simply buy-out him without paying the full 20M. Imagining Shaq becomes free agent in summer, how many teams will line up to offer him the full MLE? Knowing he will not lose a penny but get the freedom to play anywhere he want, Shaq will gladly accept 20M minus MLE. We can do that ourselves, too.

The Suns are screwed if they tank or just plain Bad next season...

Would you trade Stoudemire to Oklahoma for Phoenix's own pick back for 2010?
Maybe absorb one of their bad contracts...

Kerr has messed up BIG TIME.

Im thinking he wont trade Stoudemire and next season, he'll trade O'Neal instead, so to keep competitive so the 2010 pick isnt top 3.

Yes, but anything the Suns get in return would be an even bigger financial burden. No one is going to give up value for O'Neal at this point. If (or when) he starts pouting, just treat him like this season's Marbury or LaFrentz or any other massive expiring contract.

Rumor from Cleveland is, they want to offer Ben or Ilguaraskas, a second round pick, and another small filler for Shaq. Both Ben and Big-Z are expiring contract. No financial burden there.

the cavs aren't trading Z. he's one of those guys that will retire with the team he's on, no doubt. He's their all-time leader in rebounds and he is a huge part of their franchise. Plus, he still has game and spreads the floor beautifully for LeBron. Ben will probably be traded, but not Z.
