MJ just tweeted that Shaun Phillips has interest in playing for cards only 32 and has 69.5 career sacks. If we can get him on the cheap just have him pin his ears back and get at the QB.

If you think Arians is going to play to build a team 5 years from now you are mistaken. He wants to win within the next two years this is not a long term project for him.

I understand, but lets be real. No cap room, other needs are a priority & wouldn't you want to have a flashy youngster FA or draft that makes less $ & might be a better player in a year?

I would be willing to bet a youngster is added at OLB to this roster before Phillips is.

Unless Victor Butler is going to be more expensive than I think he will, I would rather add him than Phillips.

in 4 years victor butler has 11 career sacks and the most tackles he has ever had in one year is 25. Phillips had 9.5 last year. Why the hell would you want this kid more.

Really? Realllly? So your rational comes from a bad cowboys blog. It could also be done this way. according to this dumb way of creating stats if we gave quentin groves the same amount of Def snaps as Washington he would have had 18.5 sacks does that mean he should be starting? NOOOOOOO, theres a reason hes on the bench for four years with the cowboys.

I swear some people here would rather gold mine to get the gold for a ring, then to just buy the damn ring.

Have you ever watch ended Butler play for any amount of time? Let me put it another way...Jarvis Jones or Phillips?

It's a moot point because IMO Phillips won't be a Card or even considered for reason already stated.

Cost+age+potential

I would love to add a bunch of players especially pass rushers but we are limited in finances. In my mind a 25 year pass rusher with experience in a 3-4 who averages 3 sacks per year and 17 tackles is worth a small risk especially when he has not been a consistent starter.

Consider what we paid Stewart Bradley and Butler has more impact plays than Bradley has and in less snaps.

Butler is a great value buy who has experience in the 3-4 and is just hitting his prime. Plus he is a former Beaver. Beaver's do well in the NFL.

You mean there is a reason other than playing behind Demarcus Ware AND Anthony Spencer (you know, the guy who they franchised last year)?

Even with ware and Spencer you don't think he could have got 400 snaps groves had almost 100 more defensive snaps than him and he was the backups backup. also whose time on this team is he good enough to take? We have a ton of youth at LB minus Lennon give me the experience.

We have 2 OLB'ers on the roster.

Sam Acho & O'Brien Schofield. And Schofield is injury prone.

Bringing in Shaun Phillips fits the style of defence and puts someone on the roster that can play the position for 3 downs.

I personally think it is a good fit.

I would draft someone before.signing a hype guy like Victor Butler. As for Anthony Spencer, I'd rather have Shaun Phillips.

It still is what it is and that is does a guy want to be a Cardinal to begin with. Some people have this notion that you can just pick anyone you want and if you pay them they will come. You have to want to play for a team too and face it, Arizona in reality is still not a place a ton of players would like to be. We are going to need a lot more playoff appearances to erase the blemish of years of being the epitome of a mediocre franchise. If Shaun Phillips WANTS to be a Cardinal, then we should seriously look into it because he does have something to offer.

The first post was how MJ said Phillips has said he would be interested playing for the cards.

Exactly, that is why I said if he wants to be a Cardinal we should look into it because the other players suggested might not want to play in Arizona. Free Agency is not just some process where if you give them the right amount of money, then they automatically will join the team :)
