Exactly, that is why I said if he wants to be a Cardinal we should look into it because the other players suggested might not want to play in Arizona. Free Agency is not just some process where if you give them the right amount of money, then they automatically will join the team :)

Obviously problem numero uno is cap space. I think Keim will firgure that out by releasing some guy redoing kolbs contract and maybe restructuring others as well. It looks like we dont have to worry about him not wanting to come here so I think if we offer him a fair deal he would sign.

Yeah, why would we want a leader, one of the best at his position? Why would we want a 32 year old guy? Nobody can play into their thirties. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have 2 OLB'ers on the roster. Sam Acho & O'Brien Schofield. And Schofield is injury prone. ..
Quentin Groves? (And with Bowles running the defense, doesn't Bradley fit the Harrison or Woodley long OLB physical prototype)?

That said - if an edge-rushing OLB were available at the right point and under under the right circumstances in the draft...

I know, right. It's not like the team that just won the SB had a defense that was led was by a 37 year old LB, 34 year old FS and and offense led by a 32 year old WR(Q) and 36 year old C.

Phillips isn't a great player by any means but I like what he represents and for the right price, we could do a lot worse.

Don't love the idea and would rather have a younger guy. But also what do we do with Groves if we make this move. Groves had a great season with us, IMO

With the role he was put in he did perfect. Did great on special teams and did good when asked upon to play defense. He shouldn't be the every down guy though.

And I would rather have Groves because he's cheap and idt Phillips will come cheap

When you don't have cap space it is tough to go out and sign guys like Shaun Phillips because they tend to cost money. We saw what happened with Joey Porter so it is smart to be careful when spending on aging pass rushers in free agency. The reason to like Victor Butler is he should be cheaper, younger, hitting his prime, and has been stuck behind two really good players in Demarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer.

Sure there aren't any sure things in free agency, but I would rather spend 3 mil on Butler than 5-6 mil on Phillips.

Im sorry but if the difference is 2 mil I think they can work that in. Butler is going into his 5th year. Butler is the 11th ranked OLB in FA. If you want cheaper and younger than phillips than Id rather have manny lawson who is 29.

If we are looking for a pass rushing DE that could be young and cheap Id look at Junior Galette, 5 sacks in 12 games last year.

I am not so sure if they want to re-sign Rashad Johnson, Greg Toler, Paris Lenon and add a RB and TE. Like or not, 2 mil is Jeff King or Early Doucet. I have seen enough 30+ FA 3-4 pass rushers get paid and fall off the map. Pass.

They arent bringing lennon back, the only way they pick up a RB outside the draft is if they cut beanie or RW. They will cut doucet. You would rather have a 20 something back up who hasnt proven anything cough bradley cough then a proven pass rusher. Keep taking flyers on unproven or mediocre guys and you have a 5-11 team....oh wait you already know that since thats what we saw last year.

How did the Berry and Okeafor pickups work out when they were proven guys who were 30 years old when they were in their first year here and we got 4 or 5 good years out of each.

LSH is a FA, both Wells and Williams are coming off injuries and the only other guy you have is William Powell. Limited draft picks as well. High possibility of bringing in a FA RB, even if it is Mewelde Moore.

You remember Berry and Okeafer different than I do. I don't remember 4 or 5 good years from either of them. Maybe combined. You can brush up on your Shawn Marriman and Joey Porter's while you are bring up names of FA crashes and burns for OLBers.

Sorry, I just don't agree with paying 6 mil per year for a 32 year old who has 9+ sacks in 3 of his 9 years. Now if he is cheaper than I expect him to be, sure, take a look. However, if not, pass.

Well you remember wrong. But then both Berry and Okeafor were 29 when they joined the Cardinals.

They both were 30 in their first season, berry was instrumental in the SB run.

Okeafor didn't turn 30 until March of 2006. His first season in Arizona was 2005.

Berry didn't turn 30 until August of 2005. His first season in Arizona was 2004.

Both were 29 their first year with the Cards. Not that it makes much difference.
