Once again, the leadership of Tucson prove they're the most incompetent group of decision-makers in Arizona if not the entire country. Just wait until Spring Training permanently rids themselves of that city.

A real shame because not many teams have their AAA affiliate "local" to their major league team

And the majority of the residents and decision makers will be happy. Tucson wants and has always wanted to operate like a town of 10,000 people.

Tucson has incompetent leadership? I heard they were working on getting a freeway other than I-10. They sound progressive to me!:sarcasm:

Totally true. The roads down here are crap and they wont extend the lanes on the freeways, it's like they don't want to admit they're a big city. It's annoying as hell.

Thats a real shame, I always liked having the AAA affiliate just 2 hours away from the big league club.

I can't imagine the DBacks are too happy with this development which will in all likelihood prompt them to pack their bags and leave Tucson with the ChiSox in 2012. There's going to be a city of a million people 2 hours to the south that will go back to being Dodgers fans which will definitely affect TV revenue.

You can't blame Sidewinder ownership group either. Much like the Glendale Arena, TEP is a quality facility but thanks to traffic and location issues is only a reality to a certain parts of Tucson most of which happen to low income. TEP should have been part of a downtown revitalization along with a concert venue and hotel/condo projects, instead they built it in the middle of BFE surrounded by shady neighborhoods and wondered why people never went. The civic leaders not surprisingly dropped the ball and that project is still going nowhere.

Who needs a freeway. They have 3 main roads with suicide lanes that take care of all their traffic flow problems.

Can't argue there. The hospital next door isn't exactly a hot spot.

Thank goodness we aren't talking about the Rattlers' cheerleaders Sidewinders. I might have cared if that was the case.

Say it isn't so... :(

I got my break in baseball by spending the Summer of 2000 with the Sidewinders. Got to work with Jay Zucker.. And yes, I knew who Sandy Sidewinder was. I loved the girl who played her.

Tis a sad day. Many of memories were from that summer and I'll miss the Winders.

dont get too excited.. theyre saying its probable the Dbacks will not let Reno be our AAA team.. meaning, youll get the team but it wont be a Dbacks team..
In that case, who would be our AAA team? It's sad to see the Sidewinders likely leaving because not too many teams have their AAA team right down the road. The only other one I can think of is here with the Louisville Bats about 100 miles away from the Reds.

It'd be an interesting circle of the Giants wound up dropping their affiliation with Fresno and the Diamondbacks wound up affiliating themselves with the Grizz.

That would definitly be interesting. Is there any chance another team (AAA or even lower) moves to Tucson and plays in the Electric Park? It would be a shame to see what seems like a pretty nice minor league park go without a pro team.

*I don't know much about it and this is the first I've heard that the Sidewiders may be leaving.*

I wouldn't at all be surprised if we see Minor League Baseball back in Tucson very, very soon. In fact, as we speak, I bet the Tucsonians are preparing for a Toro revival.

Feel free to keep hopes up but there won't be anything but a Double-A team in Tucson if they are lucky. It's a sad day that Tucson will be without a PCL team for the first time since 1969 and it's because of mismanagement, lack of baseball knowledge and lack of true promotion by the higher ups in Tucson. Some will say it's because of lack of attendance but it is the job of higher ups to come up with creative and interesting ways in minor league baseball to get people to come to the park.

Thats a sweet logo in your avatar espo. Did you make that or is that an actual alternate type logo with the state of AZ in the background?

A guy on another board made it. I thought it was pretty sweet so I asked him if I could use it.
