I really like what I am seeing from John Skelton with the exception of his not being in command of his footwork. When he sets up properly and steps into the throw, he is very accurate to go with his length. When he is unable to step into his throws, (or has to throw off his back foot), he bends back at the waist, and creates an upward slant to his body so that when he releases the ball, it comes out very high. Because of his arm strength it goes well over the head of his intended receiver, and sails long down the field past everyone. I hope his QB coach is working with him on this during practice this week. I believe that if he gets the footwork part of his game down pat, he could become a scary-good QB in this league. He has already shown the poise needed to be able to read the defense and adjust to what they give him. Getting his footwork right would help his accuracy a great deal.

On the next play, Early Doucet ran a perfect route and again, Skelton airmailed the pass, and it was intercepted by Nnamdi Asomugha.
“I kind of drifted away threw off my back foot and dropped my elbow,” Skelton said. “As soon as I let it go I knew it was high.

Sounds like Skelton is aware and will be working on it...

What?
I'd rather work on Skeltons feet than Kolbs head.

Skelton should get better as the game slows down for him. He doesn't seemed phased right now, so he could become very good when he gets adjusted to the speed of the game.

Please don't mention footwork in a post about an Arizona Cardinals QB.

Why Skelton wins...he just plays football

“My family has have seen me play since I was little, and they ask, ‘Do you get nervous’ or ‘What do you think about?’ ” Skelton said. “Ultimately, football is football no matter what level. You do what you are supposed to do, you execute what is called, and that’s how teams are successful.
“Yeah, it is the NFL and a bigger stage, but it’s football.”

I almost hate to admit this in public but the guy is starting to remind me of a young Namath. Same attitude about playing the game, for sure.

Skelton has a lot to work on. Thankfully he has enough skills that coaches will allow him time to develop.
