I listened to the clip and I think Skelton's leash is pretty long.

Then there is this..

Darren Urban‏@Cardschatter

Whiz: "There’s no guarantee going forward Kevin won’t be playing 4 us, or won’t b the starter at some point. We’re talking about right now."

This isnt over.. Unfortunatly..

Whiz didn't rule out using Kevin Kolb in spots in games with Skelton, a la Warner/Leinart in 2007, "if it gives us the chance to win"

Also noted Young will be starting on the OLine, until Kolb is named the starter. :(

Also from Urban...

Finally, when asked about looking to add a quarterback from outside, he quipped, “If Tom Brady or Drew Brees or Peyton Manning or one of those guys come available, sure.” So I wouldn’t be holding my breath on another QB coming in.

Is this tampering?

You crazy Canucks. I bet you call it defence too huh?

:D

Interesting that English outside of the US spells it 'centre' the French way, and Americans use the French spelling - 'defense'

Yeah, because I was way off base about Kolb... :D

I am not saying that Skelton WILL have a long leash, but I am saying he SHOULD.

And if we start out 1-5 or something and he is awful throughout then yeah, you bench him. I am not saying you ride him to 3-13. But the guy is going to have bad games, and if he is a mixed bag, good and bad (like he was last year), then you cant bench him at a drop during the bad games if you ever want him to grow out of his bad habits.

At that point do you bench him for Kolb or Lindley?

Seems to me if Skelton isn't the guy you almost have to go with Lindley, give him reps, and if you lost a bunch of games you get a better draft pick.

Not naming Kolb the starter essentially proves you don't think he's the guy.

If the season goes well keep him around for experience off the bench, if it doesn't play Lindley.

I thought Whiz and the staff were doing everything they could to give Kolb the job :mulli:.
I always said coaches play the guy they think gives them the best chance to win. Conspiracies be damend.

Pulling Skelton against Tenn. was a tell-tale sign to me tht he was the starter. The OL was getting killed and why risk injury to the starter.

I'm surprised. I thought it would be Kolb. I'm eating crow. What a big waste of money.

Skelton it is. If he can minimize his INT's and hit some open receivers with some degree of accuracy, maybe we have a chance. I think we're going to win on the strength of our run game and defense anyway.

I agree completely. If not for Kolb's salary then I think he should have been cut today and a waiver wire vet brought in. His presence on the roster is not going to contribute to success and only serve to further distract with the endless questions about his future, which IMO, he does not have one on this team.

Kolb should just go away.

Skelton/Lindley and that's it for starters this season. If JS sucks, roll with Lindley, draft a QB and start the whole shebang over again next year.

Although it does start to wear on you.. Im not willing to write off this season because of the QB decision.. We have to let this play out.. This is the NFL.. Things can happen..

I would agree with this... If Skelton is sucking, then go with Lindley since at that point the season is already wasted. Kolb is not the future so play the future as much as you can.

Some serious crow needs to go around here

Gladly. I thought a conglomeration of ownership, the FO and CKW would appoint Kolb the starter. Thankfully I was wrong, and I'm quite glad to be. Send over the crow!

Some serious Whiz haters need to absorb some crow.

I wasn't just bashing CKW, but the FO and ownership, like I said. Still, I'll eat a bit of that crow anyway.

So, the right guy is starting. Now Skelton, Skeletor, Skeleton, Double Deuce...you need to play well and lead this team to some wins. It's time for the Cards to come on in, take of their skin, and rattle around in their bones :D

I am just glad this is settled, still don't think we have our QBOF on the roster though. It would be nice if Skelton proved that he can be what Kolb has already proven he can't be, a top 15 or so QB...that'd be a QB rating in the mid to upper 80's.

I have to say this doesn't give me much hope for the offense this season. Not because Skelton was chosen per se but because this feels like they went with the guy who sucks the least. Not a good position to be in.
