Not real impressed....what needs to happen before Leckey gets in there?

I thought he did well. In fact of the 5 I felt he did the best.

Same here. And I reviewed the tapes with an eye to this...

I've watched the game 3 times. Step did real well this past week. I would give him a B+ for the game. Even in run blocking he was holding his own at the point of attack. He is still young and appears stronger this year. By the way did you see Warners stats, Step had something to do with that.

He seemed to get overpowered a lot in the beginning of the game

Hard to say obviously Wells was overpowered by Young but it's not easy to say if Step was supposed to help him there or not. There were a few times somone shot the gap up the center and got in untouched but was Step blocking someone else then, hard to say.

Seemed to me there wasn't much of a pocket in the 2nd half and that was guards and Step but we were doing short drops too so that tends to make the pocket look collapsed.

SF changed 3-4 and 4-3 and protection was so spotty at times it's hard for me to say anybody played well on the OL but I certainly didn't see the whiffs I've come to expect from Step so he played better.

Wells does seem to get a ton of praise from the coaching staff, but he always seems to get overpowered. I don't know what makes him "the most consistent linemen we have."

I just watched the replay last night. I remember one play where Step picked up a Blitzing LB which saved Warner from getting killed. For some reason that play stuck in my head.

Go back and watch BIGG. Watch #94 and #99 for SF and their futile attempts to get by him. My two favorites: On one pass rush BIGG blocked two guys-hit the inside rusher and moved out to also block the DL coming around the outside. On another play LD got into the secondary to put a block on a DB. It looked like the niner DB was about to have a heart attack when he saw Davis coming at him.

I couldn't agree more. After rewatching the game last night I didn't see Leonard Davis make many mistakes except for his usual false start. Really the guy he was blocking never was in on the play.

I totally remember that play where engulfed the DB.

99 is Manny Lawson BTW. A lot of people say that Big struggles with speed guys and he dominated Lawson who runs a 4.4.

He consistently gets overpowered?

He was clearly the weak link Sunday of course he was the only guy on the team matched up against a proven DL, Anthony Adams and Marques Douglas are decent players and I really didn't see much of sopoaga who's the really intriguing young guy on that line because he's so ridiculously strong. I'm sure anybody else matched up with BY would have had problems too. But without question Step played better Sunday than he did in any preseason game I saw so that's a positive sign, or Adams just isn't very good.

Yep I singled him out on the TD pass to Boldin he came in at the last second to push away a guy about to hit Warner.

Sorry I meant interior, I agree Big had a very strong game Sunday save the penalty.

Agreed. Big is clearly the best lineman that we have.
