Russ Smith said:Hard to say obviously Wells was overpowered by Young but it's not easy to say if Step was supposed to help him there or not. There were a few times somone shot the gap up the center and got in untouched but was Step blocking someone else then, hard to say.
Seemed to me there wasn't much of a pocket in the 2nd half and that was guards and Step but we were doing short drops too so that tends to make the pocket look collapsed.
SF changed 3-4 and 4-3 and protection was so spotty at times it's hard for me to say anybody played well on the OL but I certainly didn't see the whiffs I've come to expect from Step so he played better.

My two favorites: On one pass rush BIGG blocked two guys-hit the inside rusher and moved out to also block the DL coming around the outside. On another play LD got into the secondary to put a block on a DB. It looked like the niner DB was about to have a heart attack when he saw Davis coming at him.
MadCardDisease said:I couldn't agree more. After rewatching the game last night I didn't see Leonard Davis make many mistakes except for his usual false start. Really the guy he was blocking never was in on the play.
I totally remember that play where engulfed the DB.
General Chaos said:Wells does seem to get a ton of praise from the coaching staff, but he always seems to get overpowered. I don't know what makes him "the most consistent linemen we have."
