Top 10 safety last year who turned 31 years old today still without a job. It's come to the point where he'd have to sign for the minimum. Any chance we could bring him back to mentor Badger for a year on the cheap?

Not Kerry Rhodes talk again. We chose #90 over him and I am glad that we did. He is a problem in the locker room waiting to happen. And the fact that he is not on a roster says it all: By his choice or otherwise

We could use a good vet at safety, Rhodes isn't a bad option.

I have no problem with this dude. The only possible drawback i could see is if Bowles D doesnt live up to expectations, the Cards need the optimistic type leading the troops. I dont think Kerry is that guy. None the less, i wouldnt call him a headache and he is a good football player.

What other mitigating factors make sense to you then? Slander? I think not.

That older veterans are simply not attracting much attention as free agents this year unless they want to sign one year deals on the cheap and Rhodes won't play for that maybe? There are several players still looking for work who have been very productive in the NFL in past years.

factors that make sense.

Kerry Rhodes has not looked for work.

Rhodes is asking for too much money.

Rhodes and his agent sat on their hands too long trying to get more money,...and the market dried up for his position.

Rhodes and his agent want too much guaranteed money in the contract so no team will bite.

Plenty of business reasons why he may not have work right now. But a massive stretch to believe he is being mistreated just because he may be gay.

According to Bickley and Marotta on 620 KTAR, it is because of his perceived sexual orientation.

They spent a good half-hour on this yesterday.

Linky - scroll to the 23:30 time and listen.
Or maybe he's just not as good as perceived by many on here. He's good enough to be on a team, and even a serviceable starter, but why not get a younger, cheaper player who will have just as much an impact as Rhodes will?

He's kind of in limbo. He's a backup on a good team and not worth the money for a bad team.

Michael Turner RB, Cedric Benson RB, Barrett Ruud LB, Cedric Griffin CB, Sheldon Brown CB, Nate Clements CB, Abram Elam FS, Tanard Jackson FS, Sherrod Martin FS, Eric Smith FS, Quintin Mikell SS....

Don't know if these guys are any good now or have any injury or personality problems but they all were productive in the NFL and are still free agents.

This is a joke. The guy has been a playmaker for the last five seasons...but he's only good enough to be a back up on a good team? He was basically the second best player/leader of a top 10 defense last year.

Just because you're still butt hurt we let Rolle go doesn't mean Rhodes wasn't a very good ball player for us.

Just based off cursory glance you listed two running backs who a) are 97 years old in running back years and b) played like dog crap last year. Sheldon brown and Clements who are 33 and 34 and have seen major drop off in their games...Barrett Rudd who's never been impressive at any level, Tanard Jackson who has been suspended TWICE for banned substances...and apparently isn't even eligible for league reinstatement until the end if the month. And Cedric Griffin who has also been banned for substances and I think recently got a DUI. And Elam is both older, not as productive and got benched after like 10 games last season.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rhodes isn't in the same age, red flag for substances category as the guys you listed AND played very well last season.

I totally disagree. He has been a top tier Safety who still had those skills last year. Maybe he is difficult to deal with and squirrely about his worth and maybe there is something more sinister to him being blackballed by teams but it isn't because he doesn't have the skills.

Well why do you think I wrote the second paragraph?

I just looked up free agents on kffl and checked to see if they had productive seasons in the NFL.
I didn't have time to research every player to see if there were other issues.
I had read and heard on radio that it was a tough year for older veterans, Rhodes is 30, in free agency.

By the way Ruud, based on the stats, looks like he had some very good years at Tampa. Never really watched him play though so why do you say he has never been impressive? Just curious.

The thing that had me questioning how important Rhodes was to Arizona is that the defense never missed a beat when he went out in 2011. However, it is hard to argue that any of the top 5-6 playes in our secondary wasn't NFL quality when the Cards had the #5 ranked pass defense last season (plus all the high QBR, XCY, ZMK, PB&J rankings). Which of course is why some of us find it hard to understand why Kiem and Arians sent 4 of the top 6 DBs from last year packing and let another leave as a FA when it now appears money wasn't really an issue.

Only thing I can figure out is that they had to let Horton's guys go.

We're a long way from knowing whether it was slander but the question is legitimate. Did they offer anything of substance to support their accusations or was it merely adding the rumor of homosexuality to the fact he is unemployed with mileage still remaining?
