Not really. I like Skelton. I'd say that about anybody.

Or are you going to tell me that when he was flopping around on the turf that you thought he sprained an ankle.

You don't know what you are talking about, Dr. Cbus. Some ankle sprains are more painful and more debilitating than fractures.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is trying not to disrupt the team with a QB controversy?

I sure would prefer him being the backup to Lindley though, if not this Sunday for sure the next game.

Thank you for the rational assessment... besides, this may have been 'suggested' to him as a response for exactly the reason you mention

Before you mention Wells, because I know that's where you're headed, I called him out in college when he hurt his foot running into the line and dropped/fumbled the ball because his foot hurt. Inexcusable. Kind of like when Holmes dropped the ball when he hurt his foot for the Jets and gave the other team a TD. Maybe that's an OSU thing.

The first time I sprained my ankle, it sounded like a gunshot had gone off in the stadium. I was a pole vaulter (yes, I was skinny once) but had a bad accident while doing it (but I was sadly never fast). It hurt like hell, and everyone knew I had broken it. My father immediately drove his truck across the football field to rush me to the hospital. Not only was it just an extremely painful sprain (the first of many sprains), but I didn't even tear any ligaments.

So, I can tell you from personal knowledge that somehow trying to criticize Skelton in this manner is simply ignorant.

Let's all agree, once and for all, that neither Skelton or Kolb are physical cowards.

Yeah, bad QB or great QB, it's hard to play at this level if you're truly a coward.

Hell, you can't even be a fan of this team if you're a coward!

I guess that came out wrong. I wasn't questioning his toughness but his ability to handle/play in pain.

Anybody who is 90% should be ready to go. As ofr the ankle sprain, I've had many from playing basketball. I know they hurt...for about 30-60 seconds. I would be embarassed if they brought a cart onto the field to haul me off when I had a sprain. But, I guess eveybody has different pain tolerances. But, I'll admit, I'm always one of those guys who thinks, unless it's a severe injury, that the player, in any sport, should get up and walk away. I can't stand when guys lay there, especially basketball players, like they're dead, and you know they're okay and going to be back in the game within 2 minutes.

The most embarrasing thing I can remember seeing was Dwayne Wade being wheeled into the locker room, like he'd been shot, in a wheel chair with towels draped over him for a sprained ankle.

The funniest thing I saw was former basketball player Nick Anderson limping off the floor after laying there for about 5 minutes. I don't know why he was limping when he had hurt his shoulder.

I've also been wrong. I remember OSU RB Joe Montgomery had just scored a TD and he was lying there. I told my buddy he should get up, he's fine. Turned out he had a massive knee injury and tore 3 ligaments.

I played with a guy who got kicked in the face with a skate. A half moon cut through his lip, corner of nose and cheek; about 100 stiches. He played the next night with a face guard. It wasn't an arm or leg, so he could play. Ankle sprains are not simply a pain management issue, there are pills for that - it's about the full use of the limb.

I figure it's got to be Kolb until it isn't.

(i.e. if the coaches feel we can win with him in there, Kolb continues to keep his starting job. But should Kevin falter and the coaches feel that, in order to win, a change must be made, they'll pull the trigger and put in Skelton). If the tables were turned, Skelton was OK and Kolb's ankle had been injured, the coaches would have the same policy - it would be Skelton's job until it wasn't.

PS The questioning of Kolb's or Skelton's toughness in dealing with injury is crazy talk.

I hope Skelton is active. Not necessarily because I think he should/will play. I just want all our guys to be healthy

With our offensive line we need as many QBs dressed for the games as possible.

agreed. But as sad as the line is, Kolb's been holdin up pretty well considering the beating he's taking. But the more the merrier lol
He was on the injury report as a full practice all week.

I suspect he will be active this week.
great to hear

It's great that Kolb has been holding up but how much longer can he take that kind of abuse? He was getting a little shell shocked toward the end of the game as it was.

Look what happened to Bradford after the Cards blasted him a few times. The guy missed almost every pass after that first drive where our guys were pounding him as he threw.

Some have wondered how Jake Plummer did so much better in Denver than in Arizona. One big reason was that he wasn't getting sacked as often. Of course very few people who knew anything about Cardinal football wondered if Kurt Warner was the new Jake Plummer.

agreed. Just taking it for face value at the moment. Considering the shelling he's been taking, Kolb has still put together fairly good stats. Obviously not immune to mistakes, but has looked much better than I was expecting. Hell, I wasn't expecting him to make it this many games lol

I hear you but you could put Adrian Wilson or Darnell Dockett, the two toughest guys on the team, back there and eventually even they'd be unable to continue under that kind of shellacking. The Cards have to protect better.

no question about that man. Improvement is DESPERATELY needed on the line. I'm just trying to look at the silver lining

OK I'm with you. Using the extra time CKW and company are going to draw up some really effective protection schemes like using Senio as a TE. Or Dan Williams at FB with Sherman as RB. Try and get by those two Mario.

I was at the Rams' game and when he took that hit in the 3rd quarter on 3rd down from his own endzone. Every stupid drunken Ram fan boo'ed, becuase it looked like he ripped his helmet off. On the replay (from the crappy Ram's jumbotron) it was clear to me he reacted to taking a helmet to the chin, and was in pain. I can question his durability, because I'm pretty sure his head was swimming after that, but I'll never question his toughness.

Those were my exact thoughts when I read his quote earlier in the week. He is no idiot. He sees what we all see and he knows that there is no way any QB is surviving the season behind that line or playing well enough to not get benched. So the smart thing to do is keep controversy at bay and let Whis make those calls.

We put up 3 points last week against the Rams- Kolb got sacked 9 times - 17 times in 2 weeks for a new record- Skelton hung 149 yards on a pretty good Seattle defense in the first half. I'm not sure Skelton is better right now- but i think Kolb is at full potential and Skelton is still improving.

So yea Kolb starts and has earned it the hard way- But I'm glad we have John Skelton and he may outperform Kolb any given Sunday- doesn't matter if we don't run the ball more- any QB and oline would get murdered under this offensive system.
