Suns won't get Curry for Stoudemire
by Paul Coro - Jun. 26, 2009 05:31 PM
The Arizona Republic

If the Suns make an Amaré Stoudemire trade with Golden State, they won't be getting Stephen Curry in the exchange.

Multiple league sources said Golden State is unwilling to part with Curry, who the Warriors did not expect to be available with their seventh overall pick in Thursday's draft.

The Suns and Warriors were prepared to make a deal that would have sent Stoudemire to Golden State for the No. 7 pick, Andris Biedrins, Brandan Wright and Marco Belinelli until Curry became available at No. 7.

The Warriors introduced Curry at a Thursday press conference, where Golden State coach Don Nelson told reporters, "He wasn't drafted for somebody else. He is not going to be traded. He was drafted because we think he is going to be a terrific player and he's going to be right here. So he can unpack his bags, he can relax, go buy a house, because he ain't going any place."

The team's general managers, Phoenix's Steve Kerr and Golden State's Larry Riley, acknowledged having trade talks but denied any agreement.

The teams will continue talking about how a trade could be worked out but it is now just among several conversations the Suns are having.

My guess is that we'll still trade Amare for Golden State's leftovers. Why? Cuz once Sarver is set on saving money, he instructs Kerr to save money no matter what the basketball cost (see Kurt Thomas trade).

If I had a guess I would say that Curry will be replaced with a 2010 first round draft pick and the trade will go through...............

At this point I have no clue what the Suns can do. Staying put as the roster is now is a bad idea. Trying to bring in some of the less than stellar free agents this year isn't appealing or going to get them far either. They tried to blow it up and the grenade went off in their hands.

Its really amazing what an incredibly inept job they've done. At least guys like McHale and Baylor took teams that were usually bad or mediocre and kept that ball rolling. Sarver and Kerr inherit one of the top 5 teams in the league and destroy it.

If it's Biedrins, Wright, Randolph, and a 2010 pick, I'm still okay with that. Both Wright and Randolph have shown some unusual potential.

They can always wait and do a trade during the season. Sounds like Coro's sources are saying they are back to taking offers again. Maybe we can get something else from another team. Also, on draft night, they were saying the Clippers have too many bigs and will release one. Maybe we can get a decent journeyman to help fill in the center spot via free agency. Not looking for championship material, just a decent guy to help on the front line.

I hope Kerr makes this trade sending Amare to the Warriors for scraps. It will vastly imrpove the warriors and pretty much guarantee the suns demise for years to come. We could then put Kerr's name in the record books as the WORST GM in the history of mankind, and Sarver will run out of town faster than Usain Bolt. I have absolutlely 0 faith in Sarver and Kerr, they have proven time and time again that they will make all the necessary moves to ensure the suns pick in the lottery for the rest of their pathetic tenure.

Well, except holding onto their lottery picks, of course. Maybe you meant something else.

It shouldn't stun me any longer how inept and naive and terrible our management is.

They sat in the war room and erupted when the Timberwolves didn't take Curry, in the naive belief that Curry was theirs. Really? Really?!

How pathetic are these guys? How gullible, how child-like, how credulous?

If they take less from Golden State than what was allegedly agreed to, they will only compound the mistake.

Sarver, Kerr, Griffin, they all need to go. All the way down to the ball boys. Flush and start over.

Kerr and Sarver won't be forever. Someday, fans with perspective will note these are the dark times. Unfortunately, we have to live with this horseshit FO and the optimists who blindly support Sarver and Kerr.

So GS is gonna make Curry a PG with Ellis at the 2 guard? Ok.
I was really starting to like the potential of having Curry here. Bummer.
SUNS should prob hold on to Amare ,which was my preference all along.
Maybe Nellie will take Nash instead.

funny how how you assume all these things yet basing it off "an eruption from the war room" sounds pretty child like if you ask me. tbh you have no idea what happend and CLEARLY neither do any of the sports reporters/newspapers.

Yep.

As for Sarver making a deal for GS leftovers, that'll happen because Steve Kerr is incompetent, not because Sarver wants to save money. Any trade would involve Biedrins, who has a long term deal. Amare will probably come off the books next year.

The problem is that the entire media is dead set on moving amar'e, and trash will be accepted.

Fans will accept GS trash because...hey Sarver's gotta make deh mon3y c4pitalism baby!!1 go merica.

in the meantime..real suns fans will suffer through Sweet Lou and 25 wins. Of course draft picks have already been sold. Suns draft pick for 2010 is...Sweet Lou!!!!!!!!!

Amar'e will be traded soon, it's obvious the "transition" has begun.

Flexibility and transition will be sold hard in every flagship interview.

BTW, I heard SD is looking for a team and Phoenix isn't supporting the Suns like they used to.

Biedrins is a taller version of AC Green. I can't wait.

Replace Curry with Randolph and it's a done deal. Replace Curry with nothing? Don't make the trade. Just trade for Chandler and give it a run with the team you have now.

As for this trade, is it the Suns' fault the Warriors decided to back off the original deal that included #7? Everyone gets pissed because they assume the Suns don't even try to get good deals and then, when a team backs out of one, the Suns get blasted.

More information from over at RealGM. Yeah, yeah, it's RealGM. But, IHG has been on the money about most everything the past year or two.

latest news on this:

to GS front office: curry or randolph

im sure you know what im talking about.

(I'd prefer Randolph.)

Thats quite debatable (remember they had the Wests best record at the time of the Shaq trade) but not really the point. Maybe they had slipped from a top 5 team to a top 10 team or so, but a competent GM would've been able to . at least have them tread water. A good GM wouldve been able to improve them, and an atrocious GM (which Kerr clearly is) would hasten their decline.

Won't argue their decline has been hastened, but it was inevitable, especially with the selling of all those picks. The only real thing Kerr did was trade Marion for Shaq, and that trade isn't what brought the Suns down.

Between this board and ESPN Ive been reading your posts for four to five years now.

I dont think Ive ever seen you blame the organization for anything.
