Well then let's just fold up shop now and forfeit the season. Alex Smith certainly isn't good enough to lead his team to a division championship. There's no way a scatter-armed ox like Tim Tebow can take anyone to the playoffs. In fact, if you can't win 10 games, don't bother playing one. You'll never win a Super Bowl.

A lot can happen in the playoffs. No team had beaten Favre in the playoffs in Lambeau until someone did. Focus on having enough talent to win the division, and worry about winning in the playoffs when you're there.

Agreed. I think people forget the number of offensive weapons this team has, and even special teams weapons as well. The problem isn't talent, it is the teams ability to use these weapons and to stay consistent and focused. Trust me, no team likes matching up with Fitz, Floyd, Roberts, Doucet and Byrd, with King and Housler at TE, Sherman at FB and Wells/Williams/LSH at RB. There are a tremendous amount of size/speed mismatches in that group. The issue is can the Cards consistently exploit these mismatches and get them the ball.

I'm all for it if we're given the #1 pick :D

Love your :koolaid: K9, but the NFC is stacked full of good teams & better chances than a team with possibly the worst Oline in the NFL, very questionable QB play & banged up RBs who've always had durability issues. Just looking on the bright side ;)

I've been positive about this team once in the last 10 yrs & we went to the Super Bowl. Just trying to keep my sanity a reality.

You know I have great respect for you, Chopper, but no team cares about any of these guys besides Larry Fitzgerald. They certainly don't care about Byrd or Sherman or LSH, and they probably don't care about Housler, either. Floyd hasn't proven anything yet except the ability to block second-team defensive backs.

There's a lot of potential at the offensive skill positions, but that potential has the real ability to get Ken Whisenhunt fired in the middle of the 2013 season.

I agree K9

The only way to maximize that skill & talent is to draft a young stud QB in Rd 1 next year. Now...can Wiz survive to see that guy develop is the million $ question.

My point is when you have 6'2, 6'3, 6'4, 6'4, all who can run and block, then you have dangerous mismatches. I agree teams don't care right now, because we don't have anyone to exploit those mismatches. There isn't anyone to exploit the height we have at WR down the field or can hit our 4.5 TE down the seam. No one is putting the ball on Doucet and Roberts in stride across the middle allowing them to rack up RAC yardage. Teams arent' having to try and stop Wells/Williams/LSH with 6 defenders because aren't exploiting defenses deep coverage when they bring their safies up.

My point is the difference between Jimmy Graham and Greg Olson/Kyle Rudolph/Jared Cook is Drew Brees. Without Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham is just another superior athlete at TE who struggles to block. Jermichael Finley is cut because he can't catch without Aaron Rodgers. QBs make weapons out of players who create mismatches. We have players to make those mismatches, but we lack a QB to exploit them.

End rant.

Meh. I think that if that were really the case, then LeRon Byrd wouldn't have gone undrafted, and Early Doucet wouldn't have waited until March 20 to get a contract offer he could sign. You don't think the Dolphins would've had interest in Doucet if he were legitimately good? Or the Jets?

Yes, top QBs make all the players around them better, but we don't have a top QB. If we actually were as talented at the skill positions as you attest, then even average QB play--Matt Cassell, Mark Sanchez, Christian Ponder--would vault us into a Top 15 unit. I just don't think that's the case.

Except maybe for Ponder. I'd trade our 2013 #1 right now for Ponder if I thought we could protect him.

I have to disagree. Who was scared of Victor Cruz last season? Or Bradshaw or Jacobs who wasn't good enough to stay on the team? Do you think we can't get the same production out of one of our TEs as the Giants got out of Jake Ballard?

All we need to win is for Double Deuce to invert his TD:INT ratio.

Well that and to get a brand new offensive line. :(

Arizona looks like a sure thing. Consider:
1. Skelton is tough at UOP stadium.
2. Wilson is NOT the second coming of Cam Newton.
3. Steve Smith doesn't play for Seattle.
4. Arizona's front seven will destroy Seattle's OL.

Person making this post tends to drink a lot of Kool Aid at times.

710ESPN Seattle audio: Underdog Cards

September, 3, 2012

By Mike Sando | ESPN.com

An underwhelming quarterback competition and key injuries to offensive linemen have lowered outside expectations for the Arizona Cardinals.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt has apparently noticed.

Asked about noticing any difference in practice with John Skelton as the starting quarterback, Whisenhunt worked in a reference to the Cardinals' underdog status against Seattle in Week 1:

"It’s too early to talk about noticing a difference. I thought we had good work today. That's the only thing that I'm really concerned about.

"We have a task this week going against Seattle. They look like a good football club. Not many people are giving us a chance, so we have to make sure we keep our head down and work."

The Seahawks are indeed betting favorites at Arizona. The last time the Cardinals were a home underdog, they beat the 10-2 San Francisco 49ers, 21-19, in Week 14. Skelton completed 67.9 percent of his passes for 282 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in that game.

Should it feel like an upset if the Cardinals win Sunday? We discussed the possibilities Monday on 710ESPN Seattle. Here's the audio. Skip ahead to the 3:57 mark for the lead-in to my segment.

I find it hard to believe the Cards would be an underdog playing at home with a rookie QB starting for Seattle. We split last year. I would have made us a 3 point favorite based on the rookie QB and the Cards playing at home. Oh well what do I know?
