He's not a backup scrub. He'd be starting on a lot of teams...not his fault he's a rookie playing behind Jackson.

A ton of "holes" today. Our front four were getting blown up. Early road games suck. Guys didn't have the same intensity. Still though...we won. Great, GREAT sign of the progress this team is making under Whiz!!!

Both lines have some work to do after today. Matt & Kurt were under pressure all day while the defensive line didn't seem to have any fire at all.

They were trying everything to get the OL and DL going.

They even tried Blackstock at DE late in the 4th and put in Lyle at Center on the last TD.

Edit - Elton got hurt so Wells moved to OT and Lyle in at LG.

He IS A BACK-UP. It is pure conjecture on your part to say he would be starting on a lot of teams in the NFL. I find that highly unlikely.

Don't hate. Lenoard was a highly thought of player coming out of college and any team would be happy to have him on the team in some way, although perhaps not starting.

Two reasons that I would think that Leonard had a big day against us...

1-He is a pretty talented back. Teams don't take scrubs at the running back position in the second round unless they are Arizona. He is also a very physical runner who won't be stopped for many negative runs.

2-I hope that we would have game planned to take away the Rams passing attack rather than to stop Leonard. In the NFL you have to pick your poison and we chose to make the Rams beat us on the ground rather than thru the air. Smart stratag by Pendy.

The defense took the day off

Nonsense. With 3 picks and one score and lots of pressure, they were one of the reasons we won. DeAnna, the Rams played above their heads today, desperately trying to save their season. We won. The Rams failed.

The secondary (esp Hood) played better.

The front 7 played average. The Rams line was a MASH unit and they had a back-up QB, back-up RB, and were without Bruce!

The front 7 mailed this one in today. Hood saved it.

I don't think Leonard is a Brock Forsey or Nick Goings, but he will never be a long term starter in the NFL. I thought our D, especially Dockett and Watson, were flat today. They can't be fired up for all 16. It's natural that they would let down after what they faced in the first four games.

Playing a RB like Leonard is almost impossible since you have no idea what he will do until you play him.

Backups tend to do that a game or two until it's obvious what tendencies they have.

All in all a decent enough effort on the road, we won and that's a major accomplishment for this team.

We were flat almost the whole game and still won, they need to pickup the road intensity in a major way.

For the life of me, I dont get it! I'll never understand but it happens almost every single time! That is why this game was so scary, you had Leonard & Gus starting and they're both backups. Our defense that looked like a top 5 defense the first 4 games made these guys look like pro bowlers! WTF?? Oh well, at least we got the victory and a road victory at that! GO BIG RED!!!

Even when we penetrated this guy escaped. We had him for no gain or loss on several occasions and he gained yardage.

Not a good day for the run D.

Hayes had a "bad hair day."

What really disappointed me was that, when Leonard decided to hotdog it with the hurdle, I was hoping that the tackler attempting to roll block him would stand up and cartwheel him.

WOW!

Brian Leonard is a scrub? 102 yards and no TD, is not exactly "tearing it up" either.

That is news to me.

The guy is a rookie, and a serious, serious athelete.

It is not like this is Nick Goings or Brock Forsey.

And just remember if it was not for the defense on Sunday we would have lost the game.

I think there were many reasons for the way the defense performed.

1. The predictability of the Rams changed with Linehan calling the plays, Leonard at RB and Ferrotte at qb.
2. The Rams did get a couple of players back
3. The inevitable trap letdown.

Leonards performance will not go down as a great game. He had a couple of nice runs, but as someone said , I think the Cards were not going to let Tory Holt take over this game.
The D was getting some pressure and a were a half step away from 3 or 4 more sacks.
Although we may have not played our best game we did the little things that were neccesary to win.
Three picks( one to the house), 2-3 sacks is not bad. Also consider Leonards had 35 yds rushing in the 1st series and 67 for the rest of the game.
To put things in perspective, The Rams looked EXACTLY like the Cardinals of old. They played hard, but played just bad enough to lose.
