Okay, ,so everyone agrees that Boldin, Fits, and Johnson are our big 3 wide receivers, but who is going to make the 4th spot?

Well, it depends on what you mean by the 4th WR?

Do you mean the actual WR that plays as the 4th WR in four-receiver sets?
- If we line up in 4WR sets the extra will probably be a speed WR and my guess is McCoy.

Or do you mean the 4th WR on the depth chart that moves up in case (God Forbit...) one of our top 3 WRs is injured.
- In case of injury I would expect Newhouse or Holliday to move into the top 3.

I took the #4 WR on the depth Chart-route and voted for the Holiday, because I think he has the most upside and the best possibility to take over in case of injury.

Big drop off of talent. THe Cardinals should sign Hakim, he'd be a great return man and a solid speed receiver/

There is a drop off in talent on every roster once you start talking about the 4th reciever on the depth chart.

On Hakim, he has the dropsies and wants to be a #1 guy. I personally cant see that happening here.

I think it will be McCoy. He has the speed and good size. However he comes from a small college program and will be a project.

At this point I would pick Newhouse because he knows the offense and has some time with us. I have watched him and he is decent. I have to agree with Jeff Gollin that we will find out who wins the spot in traing camp. The other new guys I have not seen much of, to form an opinion one way or the other.

I'll go out on a limb and pick Dan Sheldon. Great speed and will be our RS this season.

I am going with Sheldon as well.

9 TD's on only 40 catches, and a crazy 23.4 yards per catch. That is a perfect compliment of long ball speed to go with our top 3 WR's in 4 Wide sets.

McCoy is still to much of a project, he has the toold he just needs to learn how to use them still.

4th WR

While I voted for Hamilton, based on speed and experience (in relation to the others), I think that if someone doesn't stand out in TC then the team may claim a vet like Hakim, off waivers.

How is Sheldon any less of a project than McCoy???

McCoy's numbers 10 TD's on only 36 catches, 19.5 yards per catch (19.1 career ypc). McCoy like Sheldon is also speedster. He also gained 222 yards on twelve kickoff returns (18.5 avg) and carried 16 times for 168 yards (10.5 avg), including three scores. He also recorded 22 tackles (12 solos) on special teams.

Don't hold the fact the you've never heard of his college, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, against McCoy. In fact is should be a plus for him.

IUP has been ranked in the Top 20 in the Division II poll at least one week each season since 1984. Since 1987 they have been in the NCAA Division II Playoffs 13 times, losing in the Division Championship Games in 1990 and 1993. The 2002 and 2003 teams ranked 6th in the nation in Division II at the end of the regular season play.

2004 was a down year for IUP, they finished the season with a 7-3 record. McCoy was named the team's MVP.

RE: Sheldon
"When it came down to the seventh round, I thought my best opportunity was Arizona. Actually, I had a deal before the end of the draft,” Sheldon added. “My best chance of getting on the team is as a punt returner. Their special teams coach (Kevin O’Dea) really has pushed for me.”

Sheldon and 18 other rookies will participate in a mini-camp this weekend at the Cardinal Training Facility in Tempe. “Yeah, I’m a little upset,” the four-time Huskie letterman (Sheldon) admitted. “Breaking my collarbone the second time really hurt me.”The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder could also contend for a wide receiver job, but wants to concentrate on punt returns.

So Sheldon is small and injury prone... Also by Sheldon's own reckoning his best shot is as a kick return specialist. The question is who will be the # 4 WR. Let's face it after Fitz, Q, and BJ, they are all projects...

The "homer" in me is pulling for McCoy!

McCoy seems to embody the fans' Tom Brady fantasy--a late round gem only waiting to be discovered (and dominate) when given the opportunity to play.

I voted for him, too, though I can't think of a good reason why.

I think everyone on this site knows im a huge McCoy fan. The guy is a playmaker. He can do any and everything on the field. He could go in the endzone anytime he touches the ball. I think by the end of the year he will be our #3 WR.

Don't know why, but I really think Carlyle Holliday is going to turn out to be a steal.

Disagree. Carlyle is a Ricky Watters type running back and if he has any future, it's there. At Notre Dame, he was a wonderful runner but never did develop pass route or return skills.

I would love to see him succeed somewhere because he is a gifted athlete. Years of being an option QB robbed him of the developmental time he needed as a WR, S, or RB.

That was what was reported from the FanFest day I believe. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on a rookies first practice session. As we have heard even Rolle didn't look too good during those same sessions.

I think the most that can be assured at this point is that it will be an interesting competition among the players vying for that #4 spot! I would say that there is definately some raw talent in the group. It remains to be seen which of them will rise to the top...
