We've Seen The Han Solo Shortlist, But It Might Be Missing One Name: Anthony Ingruber

http://moviepilot.com/posts/3731815

Yesterday, we got our first look at the shortlist of young actors who could potentially play the role of a young Han Solo in Disney's planned prequel spin-off movie. Let's just say, not everyone loved them...

You can read that casting information here, but perhaps the most interesting thing about that article is the name which frequently pops up in the comment section: Anthony Ingruber. So, who is this Ingruber and why does he appear to be a fan-favorite over the likes of Miles Teller, Dave Franco and other bigger named actors?

Well, Ingruber is a relatively unknown actor who did achieve a certain level of Internet fame following his impression of Han Solo back in 2008.

However, it's not just an old Youtube video that his fans are using as evidence to support a young Han Solo casting. There's also the fact Ingruber has already played a young version of Harrison Ford.

Ingruber appeared in last year's Age of Adaline, a romance starring Harrison Ford that featured flashback sequences. In these scenes Ingruber was brought in to play a younger version of Ford's character, allowing him to try out his 'impression' on the big screen.

It seems widespread vexation surrounding Disney's relatively bland casting shortlist has led some to once again take up the call for Ingruber, with hashtags like #IngruberForSolo appearing on Twitter.

I had never heard of him. Um, casting done. Call him up and sign him. Not like he'll turn it down.

I guess they aren't going with someone that looks nothing like Ford. Sad.

Plus...he doesn't look too much older than Ford did in IV. I thought for sure they would go with someone who looked much younger so the casting would be easier to digest. I wish they had left this character alone.

Boo.

Very funny, considering the reactions across the internet are actually bordering on enthusiastic.

Certainly a better actor than the guy from Age of Adaline, who some people have been pimping (since he was a "younger" Ford in that movie).

Not that funny. I am on the Star Wars fan forums and the Star Wars Reddit discussion and the reactions have been mixed. That's not including the movie forums I am on as well. Hardly lopsided as your inferring.

I never said lopsided, but ok.

I'm not sure what you want to argue here--that he was a bad choice? Why? I'm curious why you think he is a bad choice. Woody Allen and the Coen Brothers liked him enough to cast him in their movies, so...

I actually like the actor and I think he can act. That's not my problem. The issue I have is that when they first talked about this film, the problem I had is that Ford himself looked really young in the first film. So another actor playing the part would require extra suspension of believe. The thought was they would go really young to avoid that. They didn't.

Not only isn't his age drastically different than Ford's at the time but he doesn't look anything like Ford either. So, I guess his looks drastically change in what...like 4 years?

Forget all that though....I think I have a bigger problem with them touching this character at all. Tons of other characters they could have focused on with cool stories. They should have left Han Solo alone.

I agree. That fruit loop aint Han Solo...

they could have a field day running the adventures of Boba Fett................. in fact,...they could also do pretty well if they focused on the huts, and Jabbas syndicate....maybe even a story of the early days of Chewie,...all the points leading up to him signing on for the kessel run with a young (CG'd) Han Solo..... they could do so many things without bastardizing a long term fan favorite character..
it really makes very little sense.... Han Solo as a character,...has his appeal with the older generation... but all the movies are geared towards the younger generations

Donald Glover is reportedly the first choice to play young Lando in a new 'Star Wars'

http://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/donald-glover-is-reportedly-the-first-choice-to-play-young-lando-in-a-new-star-wars/ar-BBvyLHO

The Han Solo prequel movie may be close to landing its Lando.

Hours after The Wrap broke the news that the “Star Wars” standalone movie was in the process of casting a young Lando Calrissian, a report surfaced that comic actor Donald Glover is being eyed for the role.

The “Community” alum is the first choice of director Phil Lord to sport the cape made famous by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy, BirthMoviesdeath.com is reporting.

Glover, 32, is in high demand lately, with a brand new FX dramedy, “Atlanta,” premiering on Sept. 6 and a role in the upcoming “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Whoever wins the plum role will join fellow scoundrel Alden Ehrenreich, who beat out hundreds of hopefuls for the role of Han Solo.

Who is Woody going to be playing? That guy seems to be able to sneak into block buster movies all the time!

Edit: Just looked it up. Guess he is playing Han's mentor, whatever that entails.

'Star Wars' Han Solo Spinoff In the Works With 'Lego Movie' Directors

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/han-solo-star-wars-spinoff-807153

These are the directors you are looking for.

When Christopher Miller was an intern at Lucasfilm, he was asked, and geekily accepted, to step into a Stormtrooper costume for one of George Lucas’ special edition Star Wars movies.

Now, in a paraphrasing of Darth Vader’s immortal words of “When I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master,” a circle is about to complete.

Miller and his partner Phil Lord, the duo behind The Lego Movie and the hit 21 Jump Street movies, are tackling one of Star Wars anthology movies as their next directing project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

And, they've been given the boot. I'm not overly surprised as this quote was pretty much my concern with their selection.

The creative clash, according to one insider, also came down to differences in understanding the character of Han Solo. “People need to understand that Han Solo is not a comedic personality. He’s sarcastic and selfish,” said that source.

I have to be honest. I was surprised at the selection of directors to begin with. Seemed like a really odd choice and frankly if the above is true I am also not shocked that they possibly took a more comedic approach to Han Solo.

They should have never done this film anyway. If they are going to continue down the path of the dark side they could at least bring in a director with a better pedigree IMO.

Interesting the article mentions Ron Howard and Kasdan as potential replacements. Howard could be an interesting and cool choice and I'd rather see Kasdan do a trilogy movie.

New director will be Ron Howard. OK. This might make me somewhat interested in this film even though I still feel they should have done an Obi movie instead.
