Probably, but I wouldn't rule out the Sandman or the Vulture. I could see Lowell playing both of them, too. The Sandman would look pretty sweet on the big screen, IMO.

But, yeah, probably Venom. It's sort of the worst kept secret in Hollywood. Everyone is talking not only about Venom, but how he's introduced (through JJJ's son's space expidition).

One of the reasons I don't like having Venom in #3 is that he's not a "classic" Spidey villain. I'd like to see them run through the originals before they get into some of the more modern bad guys.

....here's another thought: he could also play the Chameleon.

(see, you're supposed to say yes so they'll do it. work with me here....)

A Secret Wars movie would be most any fanboy's wet dream. I'm onboard.

Anyone watch Point Pleasant on Fox? The guy who plays the dad, Ben, would make a great Captain America, IMO. Yeah, he's older, but remember cap was boarn in the 1920s and then frozen in a block of ice towards the end of WWII, so it might make a little sense that he aged a little bit since then.

Hmmm....they could always have him in the beginning of the movie pop back through the space teleporter with his new suit in central park like in this issue...

That brings back memories. I can still smell the pulp...oh, wait--that's because it's still on my fingers from flipping through an old issue this morning.

Pretty much he jumped through the transporter past a couple of bums kissed the central park grass and went off to fight crime...seems workable eh? :D

I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoy the movies, but certain things are frustrating.

I wish they'd done the origin as it was in the comics. Focused more on Pete, Gwen, Harry and Flash. Green Goblin kidnapping Gwen and throwing her from the bridge, etc. Pete making his own web-shooters...

:bang:

That being said, I wish we'd see Chameleon, Mysterio, Kraven, Vulture, Scorpion, Shocker, Sandman, Hammerhead, Rhino, Lizard, or any other older villain before Venom. What's up for the 4th flick - Carnage? :|

Yes more than likely they would use a storyline similar to the one used on the Fox cartoon years ago.

JJJ's son and his fellow astronauts believe they discover oil on Mars and try to bring it back. When beginning to land the Shuttle in NY, the symbiate awakens and attacks the crew forcing the shuttle to crash. Spiderman goes to save them and ultimatley the symbiate attatches to him and eventually becomes his new costume.

I'll stick w/ my earlier statement that I really hope they don't rush the Venom storyline because there is so much in it. Alas, I fear they are going to do a rush job on the storyline and take quite a bit away from it (although that honestly isn't all bad).

I wouldn't mind see him playing Scorpion. Although I doubt that they would make JJJ a pseudo-villain, so they would have to rewrite that as well

Yeah nothing will get you the role of a suicidal, vengeful, and borderline psychotic character more than a smile, eh? ;)

He is way too small to play Eddie Brock IMO

Yup. Methinks the smile played a role cuz I can't think of any other reason. Do I believe he's the best actor for the part? Nah.

Nice pic ... I forgot how often he smiled as Venom. Even though it will all be CGI so his natural smile doesn't really matter

Its not that I hate the choice of Church for Venom (although I do especially love the irony of his last name and the origins of venom but thats another topic), its just that this seems so rushed that it doesn't really matter about all the details of the storyline ... and I hate that aspect of it. I just wish they would take their time with the story and build up on it (kinda like what they are doing with Green Goblin 2 ... even though they mentioned on part 2 DVD that was meerly a chance encounter that lead to that being put in).

I mean they are going to introduce both Black Cat and Venom into the storyline in the same movie. How in the hell long is this movie going to be? 9 hours?

I totally agree with ya on everything you said.

I just remember a show inwhich the creaters talked about Jim Carry and his role in The Mask.

The CGI guys loved how he had that natural smile inwhich it made it easy for them to 'enhance' and the director talked about how wonderful Carry's smile (w/out animation) was cuz it reminded the audience and created a sense of belivability (sp?) that he was the character....

Church To Play Venom in 'Spider-Man 3'?
Sideways star Thomas Haden Church's villainous alter-ego in the new Spider-Man movie has been revealed, if internet gossip is to be believed. The Oscar nominee will play Venom in Spider-Man 3 in 2007, according to the Pressconnects.Com website. Venom won't be the only Spider-Man arch-enemy in the second sequel - Daniel Gillies' John Jameson character will become Manwolf in the film, according to the reports.

Venom, Manwolf AND an incarnation of a Goblin (either green or hob)? Ugh. Is it me, or is it getting crowded in here?

I hope this report isn't true, and if it is, I hope they chop it up into three different movies. ;)

:biglaugh:

It's starting to look like X-Men--nearly too many characters, not enough room for a coherent plot.

...perhaps instead they are going to introduce Church prior to getting hooked up with the symbiote (like a minor role)...or find a way to leave a clifhanger at the end of the movie with venom showing up.

They'll never be able to do Black Cat/Spidey like in the funny books. First they were against one another, then they fought side by side against the Owl and Doc Ock. They got involved, even became lovers, but things fell apart when Peter revealed his true identity. The Black Cat was in love with the adventurous Spidey, not some nerdy bookworm/photog like Peter. The Black Cat (Felicia) then went to Kingpin and got the actual powers of a black cat, which the Kingpin hoped would doom Spidey, if I remember correctly. Cool storyline.

I'm hoping the movie has JJ going to space, coming back as Man-Wolf, bringing the symbiote to Earth, Eddie Brock cameo, the Black Cat/Felicia as a cameo or side villain, Peter and the symbiote bonding, Spidey in the black costume fighting Man-Wolf, Black Cat, or even the Lizard (but not all 3), then Spidey discovering what the symbiote was doing to him, if things are rocky with MJ - Felicia/Black Cat could be a love interest/problem/triangle, Peter breaks free from the symbiote, and the symbiote bonds in the end with Brock...to be continued...

Just some random ideas.

Almost forgot - throw Bruce Campbell in somewhere as a side character, Ted Raimi and Lucy Lawless too...and then there's the whole Harry Osborn storyline... :D

That would be cool honestly.

However I highly doubt that Man-Wolf will be the main villain in the next movie. This is basically an internet rumor that has gotten way out of hand. This thing started after seeing what was thought to be an "inhuman" jump by JJ at the end of the last movie (In truth it was a good size jump but something that an athlete could easily do). Since then, its then been rumored about him becoming Man-Wolf.

Don't get me wrong I'd have no problem with it but since he was a fairly minute character in the comics I doubt they would make him the main villain of the next movie. More than likely it would have to be one of the major characters (ie another one of the Sinister Six) rather than Man-Wolf ... although I could see him be a henchman type character kinda like Rhino was often used.

I still think the main villain will be either the Lizard or Green Goblin 2 (or if they go with the FOX cartoon version where Harry becomes the HobGoblin, which in truth I kinda prefer ... there were WAY TOO MANY Goblins in the Comics) and have Eddie Brock as well as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat do cameos. Well thats at least what I'm hoping anyways

The only place I've heard about this is on this board. I don't even think you'd have to be much of an athlete to do it--seemed pretty normal to me. So normal, I'd bet dollars to donuts that they didn't even have a stuntman do it in the filming.

AICN reports that multiple spies at Sony have confirmed that Thomas Hayden Church will indeed be playing the villain The Sandman. There's apparently a ton of Sandman conceptual art all over the Spidey-offices. The character was a prison escapee hiding out at an atomic testing facility when a explosion goes off. His molecules fuse with sand, giving him essentially shape shifting ability along with various other skills.
