Stan Lee giving hints on super villains?

On the recently released Ultimate Spiderman: Limited Edition game, Stan Lee in an exclusive interview mentioned that the ultimate team up that he would like to see Spiderman go against would be Sandman and Kraven the Hunter.

This is just speculation on my part but it seems that with the rumors of the 3rd and 4th movies being shot simultaneously, it would make sense to set up the very popular Kraven-Chamelion storyline from the comics (except maybe in reverse order or havin Chamelion seek revenge in the 5th movie  ).

Just thought I'd throw it out there considering I find the Grace playing Venom story to be bunk for 2 reasons: (1) Grace is way too small to play Eddie Brock/Venom (Venom if the Ultimate storyline profile is correct is 6'3" 260lbs) and (2) Raimi reportedly hated the Venom storyline.

Considering who it came from and I'm guessing he does have some say (raimi respects him a great deal), I thought I'd throw it out there. I wonder who they would have playing Kraven though ...

I'd have no problem with them introducing the symbiote costume in this film, although Raimi altered that storyline by making Spidey have natural webbing - in the comics, Parker designed his own webbing/web-shooters and the symbiote costume allowed him to set aside the mechanical web-shooters for an unlimited supply of webbing supplied by the costume (symbiote). It was cool when Peter had to dust off his old web-shooters to take on the costume/Venom. Now the only benefit will be not having to change clothes (the symbiote can take the form of Pete's clothing and transform into the costume). That and the symbiote could take Pete out at all hours like in the comics, leaving him tired and not knowing why.

Topher would be good as The Chameleon, but not Venom or Kraven. When I first heard of his involvement, I wondered if he was going to be some kind of clone - very close in build to Tobey.

That's what I thought, too.

I don't have any problem with the symbiote not starting out as symply a "misunderstood" organic costume. I think that's a pretty unique storyline that would almost have to take place in a "Secret Wars" movie (which I think would be unbelievably cool). I could see the symbiote being a lab creation (as it is in Ultimate Spider-Man) and maybe only briefly 'possessing' Peter Parker before moving on to Eddie Brock. It'd have to be brief (if at all) in order to fit into a 2 hour movie.

But, I really, really hope that Grace isn't slated to play Eddie Brock. I'm holding out hope that it's misinformation.

I never really cared for Venom or Carnage, anyway.

Dunst Confirms Spider-Man 3 Villains
Source: Zap2it
September 26, 2005

During an interview this weekend promoting Elizabethtown, Kirsten Dunst confirmed rumors to Zap2it that Thomas Haden Church will play Sandman and Topher Grace is Venom in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, opening in theaters on May 4, 2007.

"We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films.

"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist.

Dunst has yet to receive a script for the third film that will begin shooting in January. "But I know the general story. There's a lot that they're trying to fit into this one."

----------------------------------------------------

I really hope this is some kind of misinformation to get the press/public thinking one thing and it's really another.

Otherwise... :bang:

Official Spider-Man Villain Gallery
Source: Sony Pictures
October 3, 2005

Sony Pictures has launched an official "Spider-Man" villain gallery at the movies' official website. The site says that "there has been a lot of speculation about who the villains will be in the upcoming 'Spider-Man 3.' We're not going to spoil your fun but here are some of the candidates."

The whole villian web site speaks to misinformation in regards to grace, IMO. Church is a perfect Sandman, but Grace sucks as Venom. He could play almost any one of those spidey bad guys other than Venom....maybe a young Vulture?

He'd be a terrific Chameleon, too. Partcularly since in a movie you might guess he has to morph into Peter at least once...

Bingo. There are a number of reasons why I'm really starting to think that Grace is slated to be the Chameleon most notably that if Sony Pictures wants to make 6 movies as they say then there is no possible way that they want to put the absolutlely most popular villain in this early ... none. They'll probably save him for the 5th or 6th movie (maybe introduce him in 5 and have him fight with Spidey in part 6).

Besides the point the way that the 2nd movie ended it had "the too good to be true" feeling to it. Adding Chameleon to mess up the relationship with him and Mary Jane would make things more interesting ... not to mention the hints of adding Felicia Hardy (aka The Black Cat) to make things even more bumpy. The greatest appeal to Spiderman by the majority of fans was that he had real problems so adding women problems to the mix makes sense

Not to mention the popularity of the Kraven storyline, the fact that Grace could basically pose as a double to Maguire, what Stan Lee said in the interview, aand a number of other reasons. The casting of Grace as The Chameleon does make sense.

Of course knowing my luck, the rumors will be true and I've done all this ranting for nothing. The villain he plays won't really bother me just as long as he is not cast for Kraven or Venom

Sam Raimi (and I believe even Toby Maguire) have said they only want to do 3 movies. So perhaps that's why Venom's name has been so prevalent recently.

Even if Rami and McGuire only do 3 movies, the franchise certainly won't end there. And, as stated before, Rami's on record as not really enjoying Venom.

Goood Call. He'd be a great Carnage.

I can't see Topher being "evil" enough for a role like that. He's much better suited for a smart villain, like the Chameleon, or even a younger Vulture.

Plus, you'd have to introduce Venom before Carnage. :D

This movie should have Peter wearing the symbiote at some point, deal with the effects of that on his life and lead into the next film with the suit bonding with Brock and becoming Venom...

Personally, I'd be fine with it if they just stuck to the older villains. Plenty of storylines to go through...

Church is Sandman

Source: Sony Pictures (via joblo.com)
Nov. 7, 2005

As divulged by Mary-Jane (aka Kirsten Dunst aka the movie actress who doesn't know how to keep a secret!) about a month or so ago, Sony Pictures has now confirmed the villain that actor Thomas Haden Church will be playing in SPIDER-MAN 3 and it's...no surprise, SANDMAN!!

Thanks to Sony for combining this announcement with a very cool picture of Church as Sandman's alter-ego, Flint Marko.

Lets just hope she was wrong about Venom

I don't have a problem with Venom being in the movie but Grace for the part is just horrible casting

Spider-Man 3 Principal Photography to Start
Source: IESB.net
January 7, 2006

IESB.net talked briefly to Tristan & Isolde star James Franco about reprising his role of Harry Osborn in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3.

Although a few scenes have already been filmed, in preparation for the special effects, Franco revealed that principal photography starts next week. He also said that the cast had already done a script reading.

Franco was mum on whether or not Harry will become more villainous in the third film - he simply shrugged his shoulders and smiled.

The movie is expected to film in the New York area from May through September.

Columbia Pictures is targeting a May 4, 2007 release date for Spider-Man 3. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are back as well, with Thomas Haden Church on board as Sandman and Topher Grace playing a mysterious role.

Bryce Dallas Howard Joins Spider-Man 3
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
January 19, 2006

Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village) will play Peter Parker's love interest Gwen Stacy in Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 3. Sam Raimi is directing the movie, which started filming this month.

Gwen is pivotal in Spider-Man lore as Peter's high school crush, his first girlfriend and his first love. She ended up being kidnapped by the Green Goblin and died during a bridgetop battle in "Amazing Spider-Man" issue 121.

Columbia is keeping a tight lid on the third movie's story line, though it is known that Gwen is the third part of a love triangle that includes Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson.

Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco are reprising their roles. Thomas Haden Church plays Sandman and Topher Grace a yet-to-be-named villain.

The movie is being produced by Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad. The story is by Sam Raimi and Ivan Raimi, with a screenplay by Alvin Sargent.

This is great news, I'm just still hoping Topher isn't Venom...
