If we had 50% of NO's defense, we'd have won against the Spurs!

tyson chandler was dominating on defense in the lane area. Melvin Ely has apparently practices against TD a bit. Chandler had TP, manu afraid to try a finish, was a monster on the boards. Chandler is long and athletic and bothers TD, a long earthbound center. Manu has been shrinking since the last 2 games of the suns series, Peja is his darth vader. Peja is healed now, and may be the most accurate 3pt shooter in the game under pressure. The hornets know how to take what the defense gives: spurs pay too much attention to CP3, west breaks out for 30 in game 1. Spurs refocus on west, CP3 hits peja for the outside shot. Now the spurs try to close out the shooter and CP3 drives and finishes. The hornets have adjusted and beaten the spurs with the adjustments. The suns had no prayer, their adjustments took 3 games to find the spurs weakness, and then amare and Nash tried to go into the teeth of the defense in crunch time. The spurs were giving diaw whatever he wanted, you gotta take it. The hornets take what is given and take advantage. Suns fans should be glad we didnt beat the spurs, it would be very embarassing right now if the suns were playing the hornets, esp without grant hill(sweep).

the reason you know this series is over is that the hornets have won the matchups, decisively, by adapting to the Pop strategy. Pop now says the answer is to "play better defense", not happening with this group of seniors against the live legs of the hornets, not gonna happen. The spurs have take 40% of their shots from 3pt range compared with 25% during the year. The lane is defended, and the spurs can only win if chandler is rung up with fouls and sat down. Then TP and manu will be able to gain access to the lane.

Like in the last game vs Spurs, Nash single-handedly lost 3 games vs NO for us in the regular season exactly in the same manner, dribbling into turnovers in the crucial 4th quarters. So, as long as we didn't work on viable alternatives, we'd lose to NO too. But we wouldn't be routed the way Spurs did, since we do have better talent than Spurs and facing just one dominant player in Paul would be easier problem to solve than two in Parker and TD. In other words, DA made it impossible for us to have a chance, with Nash being the System. :(

Dream on, the suns cant guard David West or CP3. They must double, like the spurs and then Peja, pargo and Mo pete are wide open. This suns team didnt have a shot at all against the hornets, not a shot.

nowagimp I am not so sure they didn't have a shot as you say. Almost every game we played them it was very close and anyones game to say we have no shot is a bit much. Although if we would have gotten past the Spurs I feel we would have had a little mental let down anyway and ended up losing to NO in 6 or 7 games.

Why, what CP3 did for the Hornets IS amazing. Thinking CP3 should win the MVP isn't some crazy talk either. He was deserving.

Note what he didn't do though...bash the Lakers/Kobe to make the case for CP3.

Gee, what a concept.

All the Spurs gotta do is win their 2 home games and the pressure is back on the Hornets. IMO, Peja is the X-factor in beating the Spurs. Peja is killing the Spurs with his 3-pointers! Let Paul go off, thats fine. Make sure Peja doesn't hit his shots, and the Spurs will be fine. All the Spurs need to do on defense is make a few match up changes.

Bowen on Peja
Parker on Paul (Parker did a hell of a better job than Finley!)
Duncan on Chandler
Oberto on West
Ginobli on Peterson (Start Manu instead of Finley. Finley is getting Murdered out there!)

As far as offense, the Hornets are crowding the middle and forcing the Spurs to hit their jumpers which they as of now are not. If the Spurs hit 4-6 jumpers in a row, that would force NO to send a defender out to guard the jump shot and the Spurs can run the pick & roll with better results. As long as they keep laying bricks, the Hornets are gonna let them take jumpers all night & crowd the paint. Make a few, and force them to defend it opening the middle more.

My bad. I meant Thomas. He did pretty good on West in Game 2. The Spurs gotta live with CP3 & West getting theirs. They gotta stop Peja. He's the key. And they gotta hit their open jumpers.

So you read the scouts inc scouting report of the series:" gotta stop peja".

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2008/columns/story?page=ScoutingSpursHornets-Game3

I agree, they do have to stop peja, which means they cant use his man to double down. Problem is, peja looks like he owns manu, one-on-one. Its remarkable how peja can move that slowly and shoot over manu without much trouble. Bowen is a better defender than manu, but that means the big 3 will have to score alot more if bowen is going to play big minutes.

It seems like the Spurs don't get as many BS calls against the Hornets as they do against the Suns. Does that have something to do with the constant bitching by the Suns?
