What I like most about what I've seen in the two trailers is that it doesn't look like a Pixar movie like the prequels.

You should have heard the cheers in the auditorium during the live stream when Abrams talked about real sets and practical effects.

Holy freaking crap! That second trailer was fantastic with a little icing on the cake at the end. I have watched it at least 8 times to see all the detail in it. Every movie on the planet better run from this release. It's going to kill absolutely anything remotely close to it. Period.

By the way, I am glad Lucas did what he did with the prequels to be honest. He pushed the envelop which is what he was known for. I think ultimately it helped JJ form a balance of practical versus CGI FX. I am still skeptical in this film about having the stiff looking "muppets" running around versus some of the CGI characters (not named JAR JAR) that were well done IMO but we shall see.

MI:5 already made the wise decision to get the hell out of it's way, pulling UP it's release a full 5 months. I've seen releases PUSHED before but never pulled up like that, especially for a major franchise. They saw the writing on the wall and got the hell out of dodge wisely.

my lord... between Spectre, Hunger Games 4, Hateful 8 and Star Wars, we're going to have a bonanza of blockbusters I can't ever remember to look forward to at the end of the year.

Me too, I like the look overall but I still think the cross-saber is stupid

Agreed. Fricking stupid, unrealistic weapon.

Man, this trailer ROCKS. It does bring up one problem with me, though, which I'm hoping isn't true: the idea of bringing back Darth Vader. I'm hoping it's just a little relic there in the trailer. If they bring back the very dead Darth Vader, I'll have to make the tough choice and not see it. It'll break my heart, but that would be THE stupidest story choice they could make.

so, reading between the lines and seeing who's been introduced in the trailers and how they've been introduced combined with who's NOT introduced, I've got to believe Adam Driver is the villain in this... probably the young apprentice who breaks towards the darkside. and i'm more then okay with that. Dude's one of the most interesting, darkest actors out there right now.

trying really hard not to get my hopes up for this... but it's starting not to work.

There is no way they bring him back. I have two theories. Either they want you to think that and they really just mean this.

Or that is not Mark Hamill and is instead his son and heis referring to Luke as his father. Otherwise, handing Leia a lightsaber to use the force would be just as bad.

jesus... I'm a skeptic, but that looked pretty badass. I'm getting blazed to the bejeezus before I see this sucker.

And I might end up losing that box office bet I made. If this is good... not great, even just good, it's gonna crush Christmas.

I'm guessing the Darth Vader mask is just something Luke kept and was probably reminiscing about his father in that scene. I doubt he comes back. I'm going to say Leia over the last 20 years may have been able to pick up some of the force that she was born with and has some powers now, or is still learning it.

I still don't have a clue who the black guy is. He has been in both trailers and was in this 2nd one alot. Anyone know who his character is yet?

Love the "We're home" bit from Hans Solo at the end. Love seeing him back in star wars!

As we have now seen him in and out of Trooper armor, my guess is that he isn't a Storm Trooper but someone disguised as a Storm Trooper just like Luke was back in Star Wars 1.

Rumor is that Kylo Ren the bad guy is a relic collector and he is the one with the Vader helmet, supposedly that is how he got the saber he did.

As for Finn (the black guy-John Boyega), he admitted today he is a storm trooper during the panel discussion. Rumor is he is a defector, he experiences or sees something that turns him off from the Imperials (or whatever they are called now) and he flees.

or maybe he was a storm trooper who saw the light and decided to fight back against the empire... or whatever's left of it.

I was 8 or 10 years old when the original came out....from the very first preview I saw I was giddy with excitement....... today I watched a movie trailer....and for a moment I was a little kid all over again.

I am a Star Wars nerd...have been for nearly 40 years now...we never die, we just get hairier and fart more....and we will be seated soon in a theater near you

Eh, this is one aspect of the movie that doesn't excite me. I don't want a rehashed "it's the rebels v the big bad government" story. I want something original.

Still, that trailer looks EPIC.

Yeah this makes no sense. Clearly the Empire was on the run and a free Galaxy should be the "XXXX" and the old Empire should be the "Resistance".

Seems to me they got this completely backwards.

the other thing that's got me excited about this is this... we've had two trailers so far, and about 3 seconds of the OT characters and I'm still starting to foam at the mouth for this sucker. I'm actually getting excited to see MORE of the Star Wars universe and the tale of the next generation Skywalkers/Solo, rather then just seeing the original trilogy characters.

I just never really gave all that much of a damn about the characters in the pu-quels... I mean, I was foaming at the mouth when I saw the first trailer for Phantom Menace, but the second that movie started, I couldn't care less for anyone in it, ESPECIALLY Anakin, who started out bad and just got more annoying.

Watch the trailer again and listen to the voice over. When they show Vader's helmet, it says, "My Father HAS it" as in the force. The voice sounds like Luke.

For me I have always wanted to find out what happened after the original trilogy. That means there always in my mind had to be some continuity between the old cast and the new cast. I never wanted to follow the characters from the original trilogy through another journey from their perspective. However, I have always felt their presence would be essential to pass the torch to the next generation.

As long as using the older cast is organic in the storytelling I am excited to see the original cast. It seals the deal for me.

How some people are complaining about the original cast being used at all is beyond me. In fact, the one character I would not mind seeing throughout the new trilogy is Luke. It makes 100% sense for him as the statesmen for the Jedi to be part of the new story line and take on the Yoda mantel. Although...something tells me they off him. However, Luke should be rebuilding the Jedi order.

I'm betting they off Solo... Ford ain't playing a supporting character for three movies.

Maybe....they must have thrown a ton of money at him. Although it appears Ford is getting a tad nostalgic in his old age (returning to Indy, Solo, Blade Runner). They guy has a large enough resume to go off and do more dramatic film type stuff.

I would be shocked though if the next "Jedi" protagonist isn't the offspring of Solo/Leia in the new film. Meaning it would be ludicrous for them not to be part of the new trilogy even if it's just supporting. I have heard some speculate it's Luke's offspring but I doubt it. Not if he is taking over being the head of the Jedi order.

I think you are right though...it's probably one and done for the original cast. However, I would still like to see Luke return in subsequent films.

it was my impression that Luke was narrating the trailer...they showed him there, with the robotic hand, kneeling in the sand.....just didn't show his face....

I am tickled the original cast got on board with this...... Carrie Fisher is the one that surprises me the most...

Hamill really hasn't had much of a career.......... Harrison Ford has been buddies with George Lucas from way back...college I think......Lucas cast Ford in the starring role in "American Graffiti" .... then tugged him again for Indiana Jones after Star Wars...... Ford and Lucas are tied together pretty well....no reason to think he would not be willing to do this for a friend.

Carrie was pretty bitter about some things after the first trilogy ended if I recall...and she never did work much after that either.

But they got them all back, on board, and excited to do this....that has me excited as well.
