Star Wars VII thread

It'll be interesting to see who is in it, who directs it, and what the story will include.

Harrison Ford, Mark Hammill and Carrie Fisher all in talks to return for SW7

Would have been awesome in 1985...I'd have no problem at all with the three of them reprising their roles, however, they should in no way be the central characters here IMO. They are past their expiration dates for any sort of action role.

You assume they would be in an action role. For all we know this movie could be about Leia's kids.

Think, Star Wars: The Next Generation!

Ugh. Just say no to Jedi Academy. Please. Please oh please. That would be the nail in the coffin for SW forever for me.

Now, Heir to the Empire, or something along those lines, that would just be stellar. But they'd have to hire Zahn to write the screenplay, or at least to write the parts involving Grand Admiral Thrawn. Most compelling Star Wars character in any universe.

I look forward to this. I assume if they involve the "old guard" that it is only to transition to the next generation of heroes.

I hope they follow the family stuff from the novels...

The Solos -- Jacen, Jaina (the twins) & Anakin

and Lukes son -- Ben

The Legacy of the Force storyline would be awesome, it was 9 books but I think they could make it work by cutting out a lot of the Mandolorian stuff and sticking with the Jedi families.

We could give Star Wars to the Chinese for safe keeping. :)

Not sure what that means. Did you read the books and not like them? Do you not like that story arc? Or do you just not like Star Wars?

I read all the books (not the comics though) and am really looking forward to the films myself and doom and gloomers won't change that.

I hate all the Jedi kids stories. All of them. Thrawn or bust.

From what I understand, Lucas had never endorsed any of the books as official canon for Star Wars. He has given his blessing for people to use the world, but I don't think he's ever said that the Timothy Zahn books were the official continuation of the saga.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they went a different direction and decided on something original. After all, why would Lucas have storyboard treatments for all 3 films if he considered the Thrawn trilogy to be the logical continuation? I seriously doubt those treatments were from those books.

I suppose we're running with the idea that Disney will now do whatever they want with it. Lucas has never endorsed a single Extended Universe item, which includes comic books, video games, novels, etc. However, none of the authors could get a single word in print unless it was approved by Lucas Arts. Lucas didn't consider it Star Wars canon, but Lucas Arts gave everything officially licensed a serious thumbs up or thumbs down.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went a different direction, too. I suppose part of me thinks the best part of Star Wars writing was done by a legitimate screenwriter (Lawrence Kasdan, et al), and almost everything Lucas wrote was the most regretful part of it. Wonderful creation to play in. Wishing/hoping it's not Lucas' playing we get with Disney.

Also recognize the reality that ABC/Disney is about "family entertainment, so we are more likely to get a 'suburban tween angst in space' primary storyline, so there's that. I'll prepare the suicide hotline when that happens.

Trampires from a Galaxy Far Far Away

Actually, I'm gonna put money on that one already being made, and it's NOT ABC Family.

Well those kids were in their 20's in Legacy of the Force, with the exception of Ben Skywalker who was 14 or so.

I just didn't find Thrawn that compelling. There are better stories than Zahn provided IMO I prefer Troy Denning myself.

Lucas was specific about what they could and couldn't write about, he does not allow stories written about young Luke & Leia and for some reason will not allow anything written about whatever alien race Yoda is. He did have to OK the death of Chewie as well...maybe not canon but unless he gave his OK it wasn't going to print.

Star Wars Episode VII May Have Found Its Writer

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Wars-Episode-VII-May-Have-Found-Its-Writer-34004.html

Vulture has learned from sources that Michael Arndt, best known as the writer of Toy Story 3 and winning the Oscar for his script for Little Miss Sunshine, is the "leading candidate" to write Star Wars Episode VII. Sources tell the site that the writer has already produced a 40-50 page treatment (it's not clear if that's the treatment the studio already had) and is, "likely to be at least one of the writers when the Disney/Lucasfilm project begins shooting in 2014." Arndt was also apparently one of the few people in the world that knew about the Disney-Lucasfilm buyout before it actually happened.
