It could also be a working title. Many films use them.
Oh I know and that's the speculation still. But, FA's title was announced in early Nov, 2014, so Disney might be getting close to announcing 8's title. Do studios really TM/© working titles?

I have see instances where early version titles have been copyrighted and by the end of the process that took several iterations. I think they copyright them as they come up with them just in case.

Forces of Destiny sort of is in the vein of TFA though now that I think about it. Almost sounds like Forces could be dark or light. They could be the new destiny of both sides.

The red Star Wars is interesting.

The Last Jedi, does this mean it won't be a family movie and since Luke is supposedly the last Jedi he'll be traveling the galaxy spreading his seed?

Solid title, excellent design with the red/white, itll surely make a couple billion dollars.

Curious, how does one become the director of mega-movies like these?
Regarding Rian Johnson, the director of this one. His past movies are largely garbage. I am 100% for trying new blood. Absolutely. I hate seeing the same directors and actors in every movie. So im interested in seeing this guys effort.

But Im just wondering how some no-name with a bleh resume gets hitched to direct STAR WARS of all movies.

This post is garbage. YOU may, in your OPINION, think they're garbage, but lots of others don't. I personally liked Looper a lot, and absolutely loved Brick--IMO Levitt's best role ever.

I think the better question is how does someone with so little experience (only 8 prior directing credits, including 2 TV shows and 3 shorts) land this large a gig?

Friends with the execs at Disney, whether through past jobs or personal experience.

After reading Bodha's post, I literally laughed knowing this response was coming from you or Cheese. LOL.

Wouldn't that be considered a lot by today's standards? Abrams was a hot director and had a good fan following.. Alias, Lost, Star Trek, Cloverfield. Opinions aside he was a hot director at the time. Star Trek is probably what propelled him to TFA. One of the things Kennedy mentioned about Gareth was his ability to get more out of a script while working with less of a production budget. She was referencing Monsters in that instance, I believe. And, it didn't hurt he was coming off a successful Godzilla reboot. Prior to Star Trek, Abrams kinda fell into this category too.

Johnson seems to also fit into this category too where he had Breaking Bad and a couple of successful movies with small budgets.

Find someone today that fits that criteria and you may find EP 9's director.

I thought Abrams had the horns for the next few movies...he only got one?
I think there was early talk about him directing another, but I think he decided not to. Not totally sure and would need to consult Bing or Google, but he is hanging around as an exec producer for at least this one.

Multitude of factors. Outside of JJ who Disney went after to make sure the franchise was rebooted successfully, I think they want directors who A) are relatively cheap and B) showed a particular voice and have done more with less in the past and C) someone who can be controlled to a certain extent.

Star Wars is such a massive property, that there is a lot
Of control over what gets made now. They're looking for cogs in the machine with solid voices but not overpowering voices. Star Wars, like Marvel is now a long term game. They need someone who knows how to bring a movie in on time, at budget that won't have power to get out of control.

Just my opinion anyway.

IMO,..strictly as a fan I would prefer they use only one director...much as they did with LOTR.... a star wars movie has a certain feel and it should maintain that feel throughout the series IMO... Lucas directed episodes 1-4,... but Kirshner did a far better job on empire... Lucas strong point I think was in using setting, landscapes and such, to depict alien-ness but he didn't keep the movies from being choppy....hell, choppy almost appeared intentional in those movies. IMO the entire series would have been far better if Kirshner had directed them all... perhaps not as family friendly, as he was better at the darkness and menacing presence aspects than the other directors were.

Good answers, all.

As for me, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've loved what I've seen so far from him. Granted, it's nothing like THIS project, but what the hell. Can't wait to see what we get.

don't get me wrong... I'm ALL in for Rian Johnson. He's got an his own VOICE/STYLE as opposed to JJ who lovingly rips off everyone else's... and does that very well. I just rarely see JJ bring anything new to the table. His movies are like cotton candy to me. Pretty, sweet and sugary... but not much substance.

I thought I just read he said he doesn't want to do anymore franchise reboots or sequels. JJ was the right choice for the TFA but glad to see others get a shot. In Disney I trust right now. You really can't complain about the studios track record dating back to the Pixar acquisition. Marvel, Star Wars and cartoon to movie franchises? Nobody is hotter right now.

I really want two things. Epic Luke duel and the seeds set for a rebuilding of the order. Since Jedi is also plural that's feasible.

Feasible, of course. Going in, I am pretty sure it refers to Luke, though. They likely want to take him out before he can find and train anyone who is force-sensitive.

Disney has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time...... do you remember when they did "The Black Hole"?...It was a decent movie for its time period, but it was dark and somewhat scary... there was huge public outcry against Disney as folks trusted/expected "Disney" to mean Mary Poppins and Peter Pan and were not expecting to drop their kids off on Saturday afternoon at a movie about a psycho with a homicidal robot............ that backed Disney away from the "more mature audience" projects for a very long time... these days Disney is definitely hitting on all cylinders.

I think it's a good bet Rey will be a Jedi but like Luke may not be a Jedi until the very end. It's actually clever of them. It probably does refer to Luke, if he dies it refers to Rey. It could be referring both as being the last of the Jedi. Even in the prequels, they recognized to wipe out the Jedi that also meant the younglings for example.

When I was a kid, loved The Black Hole. I had this thing (don't remember what it was called). I had this read along cassette and book set for that movie too. LOL.

That's why they created Touchstone back in the 80s.

I don't keep up with all the SW rumors and gossip, but something still stick with me about Rey that I'm not convinced she's going to end up a Jedi. The rumor of the Anakin reincarnation is a bit silly, but I can see her ending up on the dark side.

She has a lot of fear inside. During her saber battle with Kylo she also had a lot of anger towards him that came out. And some of her moves reminded me of the Emperor's during his fights in ep3. I could see her being pulled to the dark side and Kylo getting pissed, and flipping back to Luke (and Leia).

But, that's not the Disney way, not in today's world. There's no way they'd let a female lead in todays world turn into the villain. It's just not the Disney way, but who knows... Disney was fine killing off everyone in Rogue One.

Me too. I've got in on DVD and had the vinyl as a kid. Still one one of my favorites. I still have a model of Maximillian that is a slow build. I'm going to put some led lights in the head so the visor lights up.

Supposed to be getting a remake. With today's VFX, it could be pretty sweet.

She does but remember Luke also had Yoda concerned as well. If Rey ends up being a Skywalker that would explain those concerns for sure. I am still holding out hope, fanboy style, that she is the daughter of Luke and Mara Jade. I know a pipe dream but that is better than the stupid Vader reincarnated crap.

I think Rey is so popular (especially with women and girls) there is no way Disney turns her dark AKA Vader. It opened up a new generation and market for Disney. Rey won the best new Star Wars character Poll from Star Wars Fans. They will ride that out as her being this generations Luke IMO.

Yeah P&R can be treacherous ground. There should be a popup upon entering that forum saying, "Enter at your own risk, but know that by entering this forum your odds of being banned increase exponentially."
