Once the Denver Broncos made their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, things became very simple for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Do they select defensive tackle Derrick Harmon or quarterback Shedeur Sanders? Most pundits were leaning heavily on the pick being Sanders but Pittsburgh opted for the defensive lineman which we have infer some things from that.
First off, the reports about Sanders visit with the Steelers not going great might have actually been true. And second, and perhaps more important, is that the Steelers have an understanding that veteran Aaron Rodgers will eventually sign with Pittsburgh. Hopefully by training camp.
At this point, the Steelers don't pick again until the third round and frankly the options at quarterback by that point are not really the kind of guys who pick and hope will develop into a franchise signal caller. So instead, this might be a year where the Steelers just roll with what they have and really build for 2026.
