What do we think the chances are that he is kept in the desert, long term.

I hate to say it, but knowing this organization the chances are not good, and that sucks because I think Breaston is more valuable than he is given credit for.

He won't be out of a job long if he is not re-signed, Haley will sign him in KC the minute he gets the chance.

Why is that? We keep the players we want to keep. Just ask DD.

True. But that is a fine line.

There is a lot of - "Well, we can lose this guy because we have this younger guy behind him."

Will they keep Doucet who is in the last year of his contract over Breaston ? Will they say Stephen Williams is good enough to be the next #2 WR ?

I dunno. Hence the question on the floor.

The problem Steve has is this is 2 years in a row he's had a nagging knee problem. Hopefully the surgery takes care of it but you don't want to have knee surgery in your contract year.

I hope we keep him.

I think we will keep Steve but lose Fitz
I see Fitz playing out his contract or when we realise he isn't going to extend trading him away next year while we can still get something for him

Yeah, Steve's price tag has definitely just gone down. This is the second straight year he's been hobbled with a knee injury. I think the chances we re-sign him are better for it, because we won't have to pay as much.

Well it all depends on whether Stevie B is in it for the money or loyalty. He can easily test FA and have a team severely overpay him with a huge contract that the Bidwills won't give him.

I personally think the next few weeks could decide Steve's fate. If the young guys impress than he is most likely gone.

Stevie B is the man. There will be several teams that need quality WR' who will want him. Rams, Redskins and Chargers (Vincent issue) leap to mind. Teams will not hold this season against him if things don't turn around at the QB position. Minor knee injuries won't be a big issue either (IMHO).

I believe (hope) that Stevie isn't a mercenary like Rolle & Los and has enough loyalty to the Cards to accept a fair to generous offer.

Fitz and Stevie will have to have a ton of faith in Whiz to fix the QB issue for them to
re-sign.

I think since Fitzgerald is the "face of the franchise" they will re-sign him.

I was shocked at Dockett's contract, and that gave me faith in the fact that the Cardinals will pay whatever it takes to keep Fitzgerald here for life.

He is the MAIN reason the Cardinals get any attention at all, IMO.

Lots of people here being generous with Steve's financial future. He'll demand $6 million per year at least. The Cards would be unwise to pay that.

It's not about being a mercenary; it's about getting yours. Breaston was a fifth round pick. He doesn't have a huge SB behind him.

Then hes an idiot if he expects that IMO. Q's new deal in Baltimore only averages out to around 7 million a year.

Breaston is no Q. Not even close. He should garner a contract around 3-5 million per IMO. Nothing more. If he wants more then I would say see ya if i was the FO.

A key for the Cards will be to see how well WRs S. Williams and Komar perform this season especially the next several weeks.

Well, there were more than a few on this board who thought Dansby was an "idiot" for thinking he could get Calvin Pace $$$. We had long dissertations by some saying that there was no way an ILB could get monies usually paid to OLB's, etc., etc. We have no idea where the market will be for a solid no. 2 receiver a year hence. Five years at 30M, with 10 up front doesn't sound outrageous to me.

If someone wants to pay Stevie 6 million per I say let them. No way is he on par with other WR's making that kind of scratch. He is young and cant stay healthy has had two seasons of lingering knee issues.

You have guys like Reggie Wayne, Donald Driver and Hines Ward that are in the 6-7 million range.

Granted you have guys like Bernard Berrian, Devin Hester, and Michael Jenkins in that range too.

But that doesn't mean we should be the ones over paying.

It's not overpaying if that is where the market settles.

What do you mean by this ?

Not saying they are cheap.....just REEEEEEEEEEEALY picky.

And it is a good thing, it is the right way to go about it.

All nfl teams do that

Agreed.

And it is always a crap shoot, which is life in the NFL, no doubt.

What it comes down to is that he is a personal favorite player of mine, and would like to see him stay around.
