His middle aged daughter on the right in first pic sure doesn't look very happy to be in AZ. Maybe she just got home from her first day at school ...... "Mommy, where are all the black kids?"

Stop trying to be cute when it makes you look stupid Sissy... maybe it's because she's a girl surrounded by a bunch of men talking about football

Some things he said or phrases that stood out to me:

1) physicality
2) team first
3) no entitlement
4) earn the right
5) persistence
6) leaders
7) demands fundamentals

Impressive man!!!

Is it me or does he look like Denzel Washington? I’ve got dibs on his nickname “Denzel” lol :p
They already call him Denzel in Carolina...lol

I like the physicality talk. Always felt like our D put up some pretty stats but was a bit soft. The Panthers/Seattle D lay the wood on people. I want to see that from our D.

I 100% agree with this. It irked me that the media at today's press conference kept referring to our defense as "great"...well, what games were they watching or forgetting? This was NOT anywhere close to being a "great" defense. Talented, yes. Great? Nowhere near great. Hopefully Wilks will make this defense great.

Totally agree Mitch. Defense only started to play better after they were out of playoffs the last two years.. Media loves BA and some wanted Bettcher to be HC which IMO would have been a disaster. Defense points allowed got worse every year under Bettcher after Bowles:

#AZCardinals defense under Todd Bowles (2013-14) and James Bettcher (2015-17) the last five years;
Points allowed
2017 19th (22.6) Bettcher
2016 14th (22.6) Bettcher
2015 T7th (19.6) Bettcher
2014 5th (18.7) Bowles
2013 7th (20.3) Bowles

I will admit that I snickered. I am a black man in Arizona for 20 years so the point is not lost on me. I also have a dry sense of humor. But I get where people might not take too kindly to it. I also would refrain from talking about his kids in any negative light.

Somewhat off topic

I will say that I do take personal pride in that our team has made it clear that they are not only color blind in the hiring process, but also gender neutral. We might be one of the few if not the only NFL team that has hired multiple black Head coaches and was the only one who actually did hire one this year. Not only that, MB is not beating his chest about it.

I love this team.

The entire 20:00+ minute sound clip of the presser is on the official Card site at azcardinals.com. The Q&A with media members was very informative and should be required listening for all of us.

The TV replay was about 9 minutes. The clip on the website was over 20:00. (It did stall out once and I had to reload it, but the entire web replay was there).

Scroll down the front page a bit further to where the clips appear as a list and select the "Steve Wilks' Introductory Press Conference" video link. It's the 4th one down at the moment. It's 31 minutes long.
Questions start at 11:36 in.

They have the talent to be great, which is what's irritating

I gotta say, I listened to the presser earlier, but watching the video now....wow. Wilks is impressive. You can tell he is very passionate. And surely a leader.

Wilks is well spoken and passionate, I don't recall a single "uhmm" or "you know" or "like" during his presser. My biggest take away is that he has a chip on his shoulder which is a characteristic that SK likes when drafting players. Wilks empathized this when saying how much he truly appreciated the opportunity that the Bidwill family has given him to be a HC.

Former players stating that this opportunity for him is long overdue adds to my theory. IMO Wilks has felt over looked and blocked at his chance to become a HC and now lovers the Cards for giving him that chance.

Not quit as bad when you look at pts given up by the D.

Here are TDs and PTS per game allowed by the D only (return and TD's scored by the opponents D have been removed) Based on NFL.com's state page.
2013- 34 19.81
2014- 31 18.25
2015- 33 19.13
2016- 37 20.88
2017- 36 20.37

Bowels best D gave up 2.63 pts a game less then Betcher worst. 2013-2015 only one non-def TD was allowed each year all on turnovers, 2016 4 (1 ret and 3 d), 2017 5 (1 ret and 4 d)

As contrasted with the Cardinals offense. :)

I'm by no means a BA hater, but with that being said, Wilks, like BA, shows he has a ton of self confidence, gravitas, and particularly being comfortable with who they are, and represent. I like BA, hell of a coach, motivator and offensive guru. I like Wilks more, already, simply based off of that one presser. Sure BA can wow you, make you laugh, etc...but something about Wilks comes off of as supremely confident, acute and polished. I like that in a coach. Quiet confidence. I will show you rather than tell you kinda guy. I think that is exactly what this team needs now. The old Cardinals were over confident, because BA SAID we were better than (the rams for example), you won't get that with Wilks. And that is a change I am welcome to.
