Good for them. Do the homework. Every year it seems there is a player taken in the teens that should have been taken top 5.

he's more of a target in the late lottery, middle picks, right?

Probably but he has the physical attributes of a top pick in a draft that is weak in big men with star potential. And he came to the game late so there is hope of immediate improvement as he learns his craft.

He sounds a lot like Len.

He sounds a lot like Len.

I guess, in that they both came to the game a little late. I haven't followed him closely but from the few games I've watched, I like him a lot more than I did Len when he was at Maryland. Alex Len has good size but Jarrett has about a 6 inch advantage in wingspan despite being an inch or two shorter. That far more than offsets any size advantage that Len has.

If this was still the NBA of even 5 years ago there'd still be a place for Len here. But between the changing game and his failure to claim that starting spot, I suspect his days with us are coming to an end. If Allen truly is similar to Len, I doubt we'll give him much consideration. But fortunately (or maybe, hopefully), Allen's game and physical gifts probably fit the current NBA style better.

Have to like the wingspan on Allen.

In Doug Haller's last mock, he had Justin Patton going #11 which is a mild surprise although he is an exceptional athlete.

11. Charlotte Hornets

Justin Patton, C, 7-0, 226, 19, Creighton

I have Patton a lot higher than you'll find on most mock drafts. Reason: He runs the court, has a nice shooting touch and can protect the rim. After red-shirting his first year, Patton last season averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds, shooting 67.6 percent from the field.

He had Allen going later.

17. Milwaukee Bucks

Jarrett Allen, C, 6-11, 224, 19, Texas

With a 7-5 ½ wing span, Allen produced 13 double-doubles during his only college season. Overall, he was most effective at close range, averaging 13.4 points and 8.4 rebounds. An issue: Allen shot 56.4 percent from the foul line.

There are some center candidates in this draft that stimulate the appetite although not at #4. JMHO, an active defensive center could provide the most immediate help for the Suns.

^^Interesting that Haller is knocking Allen for his FT's and then pushing Patton who shoots them even worse. Makes me question his reasoning.

I'm not sure about the FT thing but Patton stands out as an ideal center candidate. These comments from DraftExpress wowed me.

He sounds like an ideal replacement for Len if the Suns choose not to match a larger offer sheet.

Now, just need another draft pick in this range. Fox or Tatum and Patton would be an awesome draft.

Measured at 7'0, 230 pounds, with a 7'2 ½ wingspan, Patton is an exceptional athlete for the center position. He has a quick first step to move from defense to offense and he is a great rim-runner in transition where his 1.47 points per possession ranked as one of the highest marks in the country last season according to Synergy Sports Technology.

Offensively, Patton has settled into a role that makes it easy for scouts to project him as a player who can fit into NBA offenses. The majority of his offense came out of the creation of others, either off cuts to the rim or lobs out of the pick and roll, and he isn't going to demand the ball with his back to the basket for post-up opportunities. He is always looking to cut into space and he has soft hands that allow him to make tough catches on the move. An impressive leaper off two feet to play above the rim, he finished 74.8% of his field goal attempts around the rim according to Synergy Sports Technology, the sixth best mark of all players with at least 100 attempts.

With his elite athleticism and high energy level, Patton has outstanding potential to grow into as a modern day center. He is still at an early stage of development, and will need to make strides in his skill set to earn consistent minutes, but his high ceiling should make him one of the first big men off the board this draft as long as he has a strong pre-draft process.

^^Yeah, that is a very flattering and intriguing write-up on Patton. I've seen far less flattering reports but really, I have very little knowledge about him or Allen. I just thought it was inconsistent of Haller to knock a big man for a low free throw percentage while praising another big man who just happens to have an even lower percentage.

The reports I've read all mention Patton's inability to hold his position and the concerns over his light frame. IIRC, Allen gets gigged for inconsistent effort which is probably even more alarming that Patton's light build.

In addition to Ronin's coverage, here is a link to the Doug Haller article which talks about Allen and Kornet. I have to admit Kornet was off my radar.

Texas center Jarrett Allen and Vanderbilt forward Luke Kornet are expected to participate in Tuesday's workout. For Kornet, it will mark a homecoming of sorts. The 7-foot, 240-pound senior lived in the Valley for seven years, attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Tempe.

A second-round candidate, Kornet played four seasons at Vanderbilt. Last season, he averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds. He also blocked an estimated 6.7 percent of 2-point shots when he was on the court, but what makes him most attractive is his shooting ability. Kornet made 150 college 3-pointers, shooting 32 percent over four years, not bad for a player his size.

Kornet sort of reminds me a bit of Alec Brown who was 7 foot and could shoot. I think he was last playing in Spain. He was a former Suns second round pick. If mocks are correct, I don't think Kornet gets drafted but perhaps he is a D-League prospect.

Allen looks like the better leaping version of Nogueira from the Raptors which is not a bad thing if the Suns will be able to acquire a mid 1st rounder.

These appear to mostly late first round picks or undrafted free agents.

Haller likes Hart as a late first round pick (30) in his latest mock.

Josh Hart, SG, 6-6, 204, 22, Villanova

Hart could be this season’s Malcolm Brogdon – a player who slips past everyone simply because the draft has become so much about potential. The reality here is Hart can play, which is reflected by his trophy case. Last season Hart was both the Big East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. He should be a rotation player for many years.

Man, if the semi-Ojeleye tips the scales at 241, I'd hate to run up against the full version!

The local news was really dialed in on Kobi Simmons last night. I wish we got more stuff like that where the prospects are being interviewed.
