I really don't get this "inability to shoot" stuff. His shot's ugly, but it's pretty damn good. And for everyone talking about he won't be able to get it off in the pros, remember, he's probably going to have a 4 inch advantage on whatever PG is guarding him. He'll be able to get that off and if teams have to put their SG on him or a SF, then it creates a mismatch for the team somewhere else.

That 6'6 size is huge, especially for a guy who's athletic. And Kelvin Martin's shot was super funky and it didn't matter. Balls gets the shot up quick and was killer from long-range in college. Like CURRY long-range. I get being concerned about it... a little, but to flat out say he can't shoot isn't true.

He can shoot 3's left unattended. But a good defender is going to be in close. Ball isn't explosive so you don't have to respect his space. Smaller players that know what they are doing will disrupt his shot. I would guess they'll give him a slight lead off his right foot, hug his left hip forcing him to drive and using speed to keep up. He'll have a hard time bringing that ball to the left side with the defender there. Physics will do him in in the end. There is no way he can generate enough power bringing the ball across his body against elite talent. At least not for very long.

Here's another thing to consider. Having taught how to shoot for many years, I can assure you that there are always physiological problems with shots like this. The reason you focus on mechanics isn't just for increased productivity, it's also to give the body the least stress possible. There will be natural compensation that occurs when one part is off. Ball's right hand crosses his left side of his body. To compensate for this he turns his feet 45 degrees left of the basket. His right hip is actually forward as he elevates and he lands pigeon toed with his knees bowing inward. This should cause tremendous stress over time on his joints. I don't know how apparent this was, but when I watch his film he appears wobbly at random points. His knees just gave out during certain points and he fell over. I'm concerned about the unnecessary stress that his form puts on his knees, ankles and hips.

Kelvin Martin's shot was odd but not super stressful. Even Shawn Marion's was beyond weird, but still not stressful. Ball's shot is a problem.

I am at the forefront of the Zach Collins train. I think he is a great fit for the Suns.
I want to believe in him but I can see turning into another Cody Zeller/Tyler Hansbrough/Frank Kaminsky type player in the NBA.

Other than Euro players, most white American big men have had a difficult time matching the toughness and intensity of playing in the NBA.

My 2 cents. Toughness will not be issue with Collins. He strikes me as a player that will stick his nose in the action.

Here are some late workouts of prospects for the Suns second round picks.

See link below.

In addition to Hart, the final group included Notre Dame forward V.J. Beachem, Oregon forward Dillon Brooks, SMU guard Sterling Brown, SMU forward Semi Ojeleye and Miami guard Davon Reed. For Hart, Brooks, Ojeleye and Reed, this was their second Phoenix workout.

"Most years, or whenever we can, we try to go through our first round of workouts and say, 'All right, who stood out? Who do we like?,' " Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough said. "Obviously, it's a grueling process for these guys. I addressed the group at the end of it and just congratulated them on being here. What I mean by that is, some of the top prospects might have 1-on-0 workouts and be able to dictate terms a little more. These guys are not in that category. They're out there grinding."

Here is more about Ojeleye.

The key to their offense is Duke transfer Semi Ojeleye, a physically gifted power forward who can handle the ball in the open floor, make spot-up or off the dribble 3-pointers, create his own shot in the half-court, and get to the free throw line prolifically thanks to his unique combination of quickness, strength and aggressiveness. A matchup with USC face-up 4-man Bennie Boatwright (if they defeat Providence) would give NBA scouts an opportunity to get a better feel for his perimeter defense, which has been somewhat inconsistent in the weak AAC, where he isnt always required to operate at maximum intensity.
